Roger Goodell tells NFL owners ‘everyone should stand for the national anthem’

I am labeling them as morons because they are not using the proper channels to handle their problems. Any complaint until then is just noise. Especially when these guys don't Care about the other side. They don't want to learn about the job. Maybe if we were talking Shaquille O'Neil. Someone who is active in the community and is even a police officer. But we aren't. These guys could go into their communities and learn from police and improve live

LOL, you moved the goal posts, AGAIN.

And you're making all that up - every one of your comments above is a completely baseless assumption about what they do outside of football. You don't have a clue about these guys as people, but you're willing to label them morons based on complete ignorance. As I mentioned, Colin Kaepernick IS doing things besides kneeling, but I guess that's not good enough or something, because you're not giving him credit, or acknowledging his efforts then condemning what he's in fact doing as insufficient. You are just pretending that the sum total of his 'activism' is taking a knee, but that's false and you can prove it false with the simplest of google searches.

Woah. You are fast. I am on my phone during a storm. Lol

I agree actually getting upset is ridiculous.. for myself I am just pointing out that it is disrespectful.

NFL players did their cause a dis-service by tsking Kapernick's lead. They should have taken the message and repackaged it... ESPECIALLY after the backlash started. Instead they doubled down... refused to listen to the objections and in some cases (commentators) started insulting those that objected to the manner of protest.

Inwish that the NFL players would listen and change when they protest so this will all end and all of America could get behind them.

I actually agree with you on tactics, but I don't really agree that what they are doing is necessarily disrespectful. But, yes, we can end in agreement. If they asked me, I'd say, "Stand during the anthem, because by not doing it you're hurting your own cause here. Your intent or belief really doesn't matter, it's how the public is perceiving it and it's bad."

:peace

How about his donation to a group that honors a cop killer? You are acting like these guys protest is even remotely on point. I'll tell you what...they can stop being morons when they start telling us ways to solve this issue of black people getting shot by police? Let me guess? Solution is don't shoot black people even if they shoot people right? That is about the size of this entire protest. It isn't ok to shoot black people even when they are assaulting someone.

That's nonsense so I'll quit here.

Way to go Goodell. Have them start wearing brown shirts and offer a salute too as they listen to the anthem. It would fit right in with Donald's strategy.

You don't know what you're talking about, and you don't know the first thing about brown shirts. The NFL isn't the government, they are a company that employs athletes. The company tries to symbolize the positive in America, and that's why they get massive sponsorship from big companies. Goodell realizes what an idiot he's been about this from a business standpoint. Even Anheuser-Busch has been quietly surveying it's customers to get a sense of the protests, and after the VP left the game, I think Goodell saw the writing on the wall. This is going to backfire.

FYI my German teacher back in the 60's had been in the Hitler's Youth program. So I do know something about brown shirts. You're welcome.

Goodell is just making clear what many already know--anybody's right to dissent does not apply on the football field. Everybody will think the same, and be grateful that liberty flourishes. Bitte schoen.

It's Bitte schon (with an umlaut). My parents were German immigrants who lived through WWII in Germany. Whatever.
People are seeing players disrespect the national anthem and the flag, and that's all they see. They're expressing their outrage with their wallets, and TV channel choices.

Thank you. I knew an umlaut was involved; it's been a long time.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and to borrow from Simon & Garfunkel, a man sees what he wants to see.

Having been raised in the Catholic church, to me kneeling is a sign of deference and respect. We take both knees in parts of the Mass which are particularly solemn. From that perspective, I see the players showing respect for both the flag and the anthem.

Several have made it clear in public comments that they ARE NOT disrespecting the flag, the anthem, soldiers, sailors or veterans of any sort.

They are dissenting and making public statements against lousy, possible criminal behavior of the government, understanding that the government and the country are 2 separate entities.

It is a sad reality that many americans are not intellectually sophisticated enough to understand the difference between country and government, and that they are so very illiterate of the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights that they have not a clue about the spirit or the letter of the First Amendment.

Football players aren't taking a knee out of respect, that's plainly known. Kaepernick said he was sitting/kneeling because of police killing of blacks, and black oppression. Black "oppression", really? He did it during the Presidency of a black man. ****ing idiot!

You're posting as though you do not understand the meaning of the word "dissent". He was practicing an extremely mild form of civil disobedience. I admire his courage.

If you are unable to appreciate the dangers of driving while black in this country, or doing just about anything else while black, that strongly suggests you are way whiter than I am, and wear rose-colored glasses when viewing history and current events.

Who shall prescribe how dissent shall be practiced? You? The Donald? Who?

The NFL will, and it appears they are.

Yes, whether it understands what it is doing or not (forgive them Father), the NFL is suspending at least the First Amendment on its gridiron, just as we've seen stories of local high schools doing the same on their gridirons.

Tell the kids in class, make them recite in the Pledge, that this is the Land of the Free and Home of The Brave, and then demonstrate the exact opposite that afternoon. Are we schizophrenic or what....
