Christian nationalism!! white supremecy nationalism! only the left views nationalism as a threat
The description for the documentary states that the film "looks at the implications of Christian Nationalism and how it distorts not only our constitutional republic, but Christianity itself." The summary also noted that the film features "prominent Christian thought leaders" and "asks this question: What happens when a faith built on love, sacrifice, and forgiveness grows political tentacles, conflating power, money, and belief into hyper-nationalism?"

"’God and Country’ is about an alleged threat to American democracy posed by so-called Christian nationalists. The Meathead would have the audience believe that we are on the verge of a theocratic takeover, though few outside of Hollywood and other secular subcultures pay any attention to this fable."

The Catholic civil rights leader also argued that the Founding Fathers "did not want the establishment of a Christian nation, but it is also true that they recognized, and indeed applauded, the founding of a Christian-inspired nation."

"Here’s the good news. ‘God and Country’ is a bomb," Donohue wrote. "It took in a whopping $38,415 in its first weekend—over four-days—playing in 85 theaters. As one movie critic put it, this means it averaged $451 per theater, a stunning achievement, even for the Meathead."

The Christian Post, also shredded the film.

"The premise of the film is schizophrenic, demonizing Christians with inflammatory insinuations that invoke the Third Reich, while at the same time deriding them for having a persecution complex because they fear a growing cultural hostility."

Throughout the centuries, Christian leaders have always sought to replace all non Christian leaders.
Christians came into countries filled with "heathens" to spread gods "love".
Men, women, and children were baptized and forced to swear allegiance to Jesus Christ as were the rulers currently in power. Those who resisted were killed or had their villages burned down.
How is it that you are so blissfully unaware of this?

The solution is for Christianity to get back to its roots of love, sacrifice and forgiveness which many still embrace.

Have you been hiding under a rock?
Islam has done the same. we are talking about contemporary America and our Bill of Rights
I also mentioned national;ism = perfectly acceptable and used by most nations

the solution is to follow the 1st amendment, which allows for organized religion free from government interference
or political blacklisting

Thanks! Hadn’t heard about this film. Can’t wait to watch it now that you’ve informed me of its existence. I must live under a rock.😃
800k in 45 theaters? you better get busy before it closes

I hadn't even heard of the film until this thread, so I Googled Rob Reiner quotes on Christianity. First hit was to Christianity Today and a podcast, so I didn't click. The second (snippet below is just one point made in a more expansive article) was from the Telegraph:

Near the end of his Deadline interview, Reiner offered one more piece of evidence that a feral form of Christianity threatens American safety. He blamed Christian Nationalism for the mass shooter who killed ten black victims in Buffalo, New York, in May, 2022. Speaking of the murders in light of his film, Reiner said, “That’s part of it…We want this [film] to be out in October as we want people to understand the trajectory, so we’ll probably have to fold this [shooting] in somehow.”

Except, the New York Attorney General’s investigative report into killer Payton Gendron’s online activities never mentioned Christianity or Christian beliefs as a possible motive. In its extensive detailing of his manifesto, his private diary, and his social media posts, the report noted only that Gendron “explicitly touted his fear of ‘ethnic replacement,’ ‘cultural replacement,’ and ‘racial replacement’ based on a combination of declining white birthrates and ‘[m]ass immigration and higher fertility rates of immigrants.’” His hatred of Muslims and Jews was also noted throughout, but not whether he had any religious beliefs of his own.

Maybe someone who has seen the film will come along and comment.

If only governments could be free of religious Interference.

Talibornagains are one of this nation's biggest problems, white supremcist christian nationalist thugs.

Who in their right mind cites the far right Catholic League and its leader Bill Donahue as “Catholic civil rights” leaders?

Donahue and his group have attacked victims of clergy abuse as putting the Church in a bad light.

IOW, if you’re citing the Catholic League, you’ve already lost the debate.

Don't confuse nationalism with patriotism. Patriotism is loyalty to your country. Nationalism is loyalty to your people, your nation. White nationalists consider white people their nation, Christian nationalists consider Christians their nation.
