Do you think Mitch is going to allow a conviction in the Senate?
What you're saying is that McConnell is possibly the most powerful man in the country. He, and he alone will decide whether Trump remains in office.
The people who are in real trouble are those GOP senators who are up for re-election. If Trump gets even a whiff that a GOP senator is wavering, he will call on his base to primary the incumbent. If they vote to acquit, they will have to answer for that vote in the general election.
That is why McConnell is not allowing any House bills to be discussed, let alone voted on in the senate. He's providing cover for vulnerable senators. If the impeachment comes to the senate, it will take balls of brass to prevent a trial and a vote.
