Redskins Offseason 2018

New owner, new name, and abundant apologizes for past sins will be required.

Fed ex field was built in 1997? Only 20 years and now they need a new stadium lol.... what a waste of concrete.

T-Mobile field was built in 1999... perfectly fine stadium for today.

My personal opinion, but Washington DC shouldn't have a football team. They are more a baseball city and already have enough going around. Washington fans can become Baltimore fans which is only 1 hour away.

Move the team residing in Washington to Portland, Salt Lake, Canada, or Alabama....

Perfectly fine is a long ways from "New and Improved!".

FedEx is a terrible stadium in a terrible location. Its only purpose was to be built before Jack Kent Cooke died.

A once-proud franchise, the Redskins are showing signs of foundational cracks

As another season ends, eroding fan support presents owner Daniel Snyder with a set of transcendent challenges that go well beyond the typical offseason to-do list for struggling teams.

Does Gruden survive? Hard to blame it all on him since Smith's injury did basically wreck their season, but the 'Skins are perpetual underachievers and you have to wonder how thin Snyder's patience is.

Coach firing predictions

Already Gone: Koetter, Bowles
Will be fired: Wilks, Joseph, Gase
Might be fired/let go: Lewis
Will probably survive: Jay Gruden, Quinn
Will keep interim job: Williams
Will not keep interim job: Philbin

The Dolphins GM is the problem and will likely get fired. The coach is not a problem.

I think the Dolphins are headed for a complete house-cleaning. GM, coach, QB.

When Kiko Alonso is out headhunting, the coach is at least A problem, if not THE problem. Gase is a terrible coach.

I believe Gruden will survive, or should IMHO. Redskins finished with 24 players on IR.

Another way to evaluate Gruden is the number of Offensive Coordinators who have trained under Jay Gruden, and gone on to success as head coaches, or offensive coordinators, after a few years Redskins training.

Jay Gruden took over the offensive play calling, this year, because of the good training prior coordinators received.

Good teaching skills are good for coaches to have. Hopefully a combination of players and coaches will intersect to make the Redskins a great team, with great coaches, who stick around long enough to win a chamionship.

So much of the pay structure for the Redskins football players, that how the players perform is not very relevant, because there is so much signing bonus, and guaranteed money. that there is little money left for incentives.

J D Swearinger had a 7 Million signing bonus, and 4 million per year, for playing. There are few incentives written into the Redskins contracts.

70 million guaranteed to QB Alex Smith made him a daredevil, because injury had not pain, financially.

The Front office thinks that if a player performed in the past, that he will continue, regardless of financial incentives, or lack thereof.

Redskin coaches have little control over the financial incentives.

Old time Redskin coaches had piles of cash on the sidelines to distribute immediately when there was a good play made. Incentives attuned to coaching leadership can be written in today's contracts.

Gruden or Manusky cannot be good Redskins coaches, because their hands are tied, and the money is largely already given away.

I think they need to go back and adopt Bobby Beathard's two main philosophies as GM:

1. The Offensive Line is the key to everything else.

2. A first-round draft pick has just as much chance being a bust or a success as a second-round pick, but they're worth a heck of a lot more on the trading block. Trade every first-round pick for as many second-round picks as you can get,

All free agents must be signed by March 13, 2019, when all 2018 contracts expire at midnight.

What priority should be given to retaining which Redskins free agents?

"TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Prosecutors have decided not to pursue a domestic violence charge against Washington Redskins linebacker Reuben Foster, though the NFL continues to review the matter.

Prosecutors in Tampa, Florida, filed a notice of termination of prosecution on Wednesday. The notice states that the first-degree misdemeanor battery charge is dismissed and there is no need for Foster to appear at any future court hearings."

So... Redskins fans... Was Adrian Peterson worth it this year? Or do you think he is over the hill?

"Facing possible wholesale staff changes, the Washington Redskins lost one of their own Wednesday when the Atlanta Falcons decided to bring aboard Ben Kotwica in the same position.

After serving as special teams coordinator for five years in Washington, the Redskins gave Kotwica permission to speak with other teams and Atlanta came calling, according to Kareem Copeland and Les Carpenter of the Washington Post. According to that report, Jay Gruden and the Redskins are still trying to figure out what to do with their staff when it comes to next season — the Falcons simply swooped in and made a decision for them."

It seems that the Redskins are reluctant to give good assistant coaches bigger raises, to keep the excellent coaches on board.

Bruce Allen was recently reported to take back the business side of the team after the release of Lafemina, (how secure he must be!)
Bruce is the son of legendary DC coach George Allen. The apple fell on a hill, as far as football is concerned. Imo, as long as there is money being made, I don’t expect much improvement. Twenty or so years of history under the present ownership don’t bode well for the future. The fans have been voting with their feet for the last few years. AP was a straw grasp that panned out. AP is 33 and has 11 or 12 hard years on the odometer, the Redskins aren’t famous for their forward thinking/planning.

So I am wondering whether the Redskins front office is trying to save money on coaches, by letting excellent coaches get higher salaries from other teams? Maybe there is a league wide understanding that teams avoid giving excellent assistant coaches better money, to generally keep their profits up? There is no salary cap for coaches, is there? Letting Bill Callahan, the offensive line coach, get away would be nuts.
