Anybody who hasn't should read the book Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell. That's the kind of world that gun control will lead to.

Hate to break it to you but guns will not stop an authoritarian fascist dictator.
Maybe in a tiny undeveloped country in the middle of nowhere.
Here? Not a chance.

AND DONALD TRUMP'S RALLIES are a carbon copy of "Two Minutes Hate"...all you have to do is swap "Emmanuel Goldstein" with "libtards".

In the 1960s it was nearly impossible for a high school student to reach graduation without having read 1984 - today I imagine it is more likely they have read the autobiography of a Nigerian lesbian and her discovery of self in a joining a Mesoamerican Indian insurgency, ending in her appointment as a critical studies professor at Berkeley.

i've read it more than once. i'd say that the bigger risk is inventing fake realities for political advantage, which is absolutely happening right now.

Well it's good to see that you didn't actaully read the book yourself and are simply going off reference.

But the children in the anti-trump camp have been failing at trying to make these same inclinations about Trump for the past few years now. So I can't fault you for sticking to the same tactic, despite how incorrect, poor and tired the choice may be.

Yes and unfortunately the democrats have been kicking that dead horse for far too long.

Uh yeah I did actaulllly read the book myself.
If anyone was a candidate for Room 101, it's you.

You do realize that you're the one who's backing such standards and not people like Trump, correct?

We can look and see that it's the democrats who've been acting more in line with the book. Up to the near destruction of civil liberties and yet you want to pretend otherwise.

So even if you did read the book, you're outright lying about it's premise when compared to Trump's administration.

Only one party's members will burn America to the ground to get their way. The same party whose rabid followers don black masks and attack free speech, flags, statues, cops, citizens going about their business, the constitution, law and order, regular bathing, and working a job. Only one party's members march lockstep in groupthink and approved speech, swapping individual thought for focus-group tested talking points, bullying, and media saturation.

The Fascists have arrived, and they're calling everyone else fascists and nazis....clever.

If that were true, the Communist Democrats wouldn't be trying to ban guns.

1984 and Brave New World were given as standard reading assignments when I was in High School; I thought most would have read them before graduation.

Thanks, but I'll pass. If I want the bejeebers scared out of me I just have to turn on CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, or CBS. The only gun control I recognize is the ability to hit your target accurately.

I read 1984 as part of my required reading in High School and I graduated way after the 1960's. I also read Brave New World, Animal Farm, Lord Of The Flies, and Anthem by Ayn Rand. Anthem is a particularly good book that I highly recommend.

Other than LofF I too read them in H.S.. And yes, Anthem is a little gem.

Of course guns won't stop an authoritarian fascist dictator, its the people using the guns that do the stopping not the guns themselves. It was George Washington's army that used guns to stop the British.

As they were for me, but perhaps some of the people here should reread it.

We already established that you reject public health emergency directives.
That's on you and the rest of the covidiot crowd.
Puerto Rico went months without even basic utilities and you whiners are crying about being kept at home with Netflix and food deliveries.

And reopening too soon will bring about MORE economic disaster than doing it properly, but seeing as how it's impossible to reason with this crowd on anything, arguing economics is a lost cause. Hell, you guys are backing a bankrupted casino owner and reality tee vee host.

So no, I do not realize anything, because the government's directives are about public safety, which is "the general Welfare" bit mentioned in the Constitution.
If this was nuclear radiation fallout, it's apparent that your bunch STILL would refuse lawful orders to stay away.
Viruses and radiation fallout seem to act in much the same way.

I am not the least bit concerned, at this point, about YOUR safety. Hell, if it were possible I'd say let all of you hold the biggest, most densely packed right wing rally in history. The problem is, the lot of you will return home and infect everyone else, otherwise I'd say "stick a light bulb up your butts and have at it", and then you can all get on a COVID boat and expire on the water, so we can toss your carcasses overboard after you croak.

The simple truth is, you fail to comprehend that we are trying to protect ourselves...from the likes of YOU.

Thank you for the fact-free analysis. 1789 called, they want their flintlocks back.
And by the way, I own guns, so rethink just who you're talking to.

I have, it doesn't make any reference to gun control

A good movie adaptation Btw:

1984 (1984) - IMDb

The UK has had a pretty extensive gun ban for about 23 years, still no sign of Room 101

Sorry that's just the kind of RW hysteria that makes the gun lobby look pathetic.

Actually Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" makes a better analogy with his firemen employed to burn books.

Maybe not but that's not to say they couldn't have a Room 101. What's to stop the government from having a Room 101 and putting people in it?

Yes that is another good analogy. Burning books can be likened to seizing guns.

What's to stop the US government doing the same ?

The objectives are different though

The British government didn't ban seize guns to exert social control.

i've read it more than once. i'd say that the bigger risk is inventing fake realities for political advantage, which is absolutely happening right now.

Figuring the book taking place 35 years from when it was written(1949) as a cautionary warning, and now 36 years(I read it about 2005) later it is pretty spot on about some things, yeah a must read.

What's to stop the US government doing the same ?
The US government operates on checks and balances which is supposed to be a deterrent against such stuff happening, but just in case that fails we've got armed citizens, we've got an armed population.

The objectives are different though

The British government didn't ban seize guns to exert social control.
The British government was exerting social control by seizing guns, even if that wasn't their objective or intention that's exactly what they were doing when they were seizing guns. And by seizing guns, that gives them means to exert more social control.

You're very likely correct. Only I was thinking more along the lines of [ Everything You've Always Wanted To Know About Swahili Ball Itch But Were Afraid To Ask]

Given the current situation, I tried again to get through the book. I failed as I failed many years ago. I see stark East German landscape when I read the first few chapters, and the author doesn’t compel me too continue. I have a difficult time pickIng up a book after first attempting to read it.
