Private Land Owners

I think all private land owners, large and small, should be subject to zoning and property taxes, but they should also have a say and/or a vote in both issues.

The highlighted part is the basis of the entire discussion.

Determining who has what degree of the control of private property is the entire question.

For instance, assume that I own an AR-15 and I do not want to sell it to the government.

Will I be required to sell it at a price dictated by the buyer or will the buyer be compelled to pay the price that will make me want to sell?

For this consideration, assume that I purchased the thing legally and have been, in every way imaginable, a law abiding, contributing member of the society.

Will I be forced to forfeit my property to the state?

Insecure men keep thinking that lazy hippies high on weed are gonna take everything away from them. I think that about sums it up.

Thinking people understand that "lazy hippies high on weed" are really not a threat to property rights assuming they are not smoking in the basement of the property in question.

The significant threats to private property rights come from connected folks using government to screw the rest of us.

Top Ten Worst Abuses of Eminent Domain Spotlighted in New Report - Institute for Justice
<snip>
The worst abuses were found in 10 states: Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nevada, New York, Ohio and Texas.

In each instance, the government, often acting in concert with a private development corporation or other private interests,

condemned homes or small businesses so they could be transferred to another party for its purely private benefit.

If you think hippies high on weed are gonna take away your land, you deserve it.

Out of curiosity, when the OP says "Liberal Progressive", why do you read it as "hippies high on weed"?

From what I've seen, especially lately, "Liberal Progressives" are pretty clear thinking thieves bent on confiscating as much as they can from anyone else that they see as valuable.

My experience with "hippies high on weed" is a tad dated, but that general demographic was pretty much a non-threatening, laid back group.

Any property beyond the end of the pipe was not really a consideration for them. Things may have changed over the years.

Yep. People have a right to own their property, unless Donald Trump needs it.

Or any connected, powerful person.

Eminent Domain Laws are applied at most levels of government.

It belongs to you until an orange idiot wants to seize it to build a wall in a doomed to fail attempt to keep out the brown people that he is afraid of unless they are working for him or his brood for **** wages.

So, then, "eminent domain" is a term invented by Trump specifically for this purpose?

I didn't make that claim. I made the claim that Carrot Caligula is looking at stealing land to build a wall in a failed attempt to keep out the brown people that he is afraid of unless he's underpaying them. Are you all caught up now, or should we start repeating ourselves?

Glad to see the left hasn't completely lost its mind relative to wealth redistribution. With all this talk from the Dems promoting socialism, my question is on point.

Socialist believe in common property ownership

Fortunately, American democrats are not true socialists.

The president wants to seize private lands for his wall, that ok with you? A crime to not mow your lawn? Does this fall under the heading of less regulation? Less government getting involved in my business?

It was a typo. I do NOT think it should be a crime not to mow your yard.

Yes, I am ok with using eminent domain to take land for the border wall/fence, which already was done by Democrats for nearly 700 miles of Southern border walls and fences. No different than taking land for a road. What I oppose is the government taking land for economic development.

You don't know they aren't high anymore you know that that good christian family man is secretly gay.

I would gladly allow a wall to pass through my property if I lived on the border. I will feed and house the workers as well. Full in support

sure you would. why don't you head down there and volunteer your time to build it? might make for a fun vacation, and you could save taxpayers some money on the wall that Mexico was supposed to pay for according to the orange fool.

Sounds like this wall is a pretty smart wall. Will it only keep out the folks that you cite? Most walls I encounter are pretty stupid. They are also pretty non-discriminatory.

Is this the first and only time that eminent domain has ever been employed?

Is this the only wall that was ever built to restrict entry into property to only those entitled to enter?

In my experience, eminent domain has been used before, walls have been built before and walls are usually built to accomplish EXACTLY this same purpose.

Were walls incorporated into the design of your home? Do they help to restrict access to those authorized to enter or is your home more like a public crosswalk at Mardi Gras?

Ah, the vigilante idiots. I'd probably reconsider that.

President Anusmouth has the same IQ as his wall. Unfortunately, that's a larger IQ than his base (collectively.)

Do you agree with them?

There are various reasons for their application.

In the cases where they are applied to move the land from the private ownership of one citizen to another, no.

In the case of national defense, maybe. It only depends on the previously existing arrangements and the degree of the problem.

It seems odd that the property rights of individuals would extend all the way to the national border.

In my neighborhood, I can't build within a specified number of feet from the public street without special permission from the city, state and the HOA.

I have no idea what the Federal and State laws in place might demand of land owners on the border.

This is America, we don't share land here.

Why so?

When I was a kid, I learned that racist idiots and nazis sucked. I checked recently, and I found that this is still the case. That's why I would discourage others from associating with the morons.

He seems to at least understand how a wall works...

There are not that many moving parts. Should not really be a brain teaser. Has the lefties stumped, though.
