Praying in Jesus' name angers democrat lawmakers

The House leadership asked Rep. Borowicz to pray so she prayed. 'Wut da problem is?'

The House leadership was wrong by bringing religion into the government and asking anyone to pray. Can Muslim or other religion required that you kneel toward Mecca or sit and meditate as part of their duties as a civil servant, or would that be a violation of your relgious rights and the separation of church and state?

Why are you ignoring the direct teachings of Jesus as recorded in Matthew 6:6-7? Why do you need an atheist to quote your bible to you? You should already know this passasge.

Matthew 6:6-7 New International Version (NIV)

6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

I think one of the first things I learned, studying Civics, was the principal of "The Separation of Church and State" IN OUR Constitution. Had they discontinued Civics when you went to school? I wouldn't expect "Times of Israel" to know the bullet points in our Constitution (actually I would), but I think Most AmeriCANs should.

Until modern socialist democrats began their rise from the slime pits of failed economies and religions, Americans never considered opening prayers before government assemblies to be evil or unConstitutional.

Im getting the idea that Donald Trump used his presdetial Sharpie to edit those passages out of the conservtive version of the US Constitution and their history books.

Who isn’t tolerating Christians? I am a leftist and have no problem with fundamental Christianity: believe, preach and convert, prosper. But don’t bring a prayer to Jesus to the venues in question.

Freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM. Let me save you time, and I mean this nicely, unless you are bored... don't worry about dissecting this for me, because I will disagree.

You have the right to pray but not on government time and you cannot legislate your beliefs as secular law. Other religions and atheists have the very same equal rights to believe and to not believe as they choose, just as you do.

In constitutional law, there is a precedent that defines the limits of religion and state entanglement known as the Lemon test from the Lemon v.Kurtzman decision.

In Lemon v. Kurtzman, 403 U.S. 602 (1970), the Court provided a three-part test for Establishment Clause analysis. Although for some time it was questionable whether the Lemon Test would continue to be applied in such cases, the Court, in 2000, stated that “we assess [Establishment Clause cases] by reference to the three factors first articulated in Lemon v. Kurtzman…which guides the general nature of our inquiry in this area.” Santa Fe Independent School District v. Jane Doe, 530 U.S. 290, 314.

The three-part Lemon Test asks:

Does the law have a secular purpose? If not, it violates the Establishment Clause.
Is the primary effect either to advance religion or to inhibit religion? If so, it violates the Establishment Clause.
Does the law foster an governmental entanglement with religion? If so, it violates the Establishment Clause.

Until modern socialist democrats began their rise from the slime pits of failed economies and religions, Americans never considered opening prayers before government assemblies to be evil or unConstitutional.

IF modern reganomic conservatives hadn't destroyed our economy and shipped our jobs You and Don Vito wouldn't have anything to Again about.

The rest of your post is answered by Lisa's post #53.

Democrats may be a house divided, but they seem universally opposed to praying in Jesus' name. This Christian lawmaker opened a legislative session with a prayer and by the time she had mentioned Jesus several times in her prayer the democrats had become unhinged. They were especially outraged in sympathy with the new Black Muslim lawmaker there who was outraged by the prayer.

Democrats talk about America but their brand of America is not the same God Bless America we have traditionally recognized. Their brand of America is the unholy socialist atheistic "Goddamn America" the immoral democrats are out to create.

I know you trumpsters think that this is a Cjristian nation and thus should be allowed to make it the unofficial official religion, but the forefathers made sure the the 1st Amenedment that it would not happne. Saying a prayer in one religion violates the 1st Amendment, but of course the only amendemtn you actually worry about is the 2nd.

It is obvious the democrats were upset by Rep. Stephanie because they wanted the day to be about the Muslim woman who had just been elected. If not for her religion the Muslim woman would have just been a side note that day.

The strict separation of church and state also applies to her religious beliefs being banned from government time and policy. Do you feel persecuted or threatened by the fact that a Muslim woman is a member of the state legislature?

BTW, I thought that you said that Democrats were godless atheists and heathens?

Another great thread by Marke. Yes, the Muslims and the American left have exactly the same goals: destruction of Christianity; destruction of israel, destruction of capitalism, destruction of America as we know it.

I dare you to prove a word of that nonsense with empirical facts? Are you suggesting that there are no capitalist businesses in blue states or in countries with a Muslim majority?

When have your religious rights as determined by the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights ever been threatened in the US?

At the risk of being laughed at.... what do you mean by this?

There is no war on Xmas except in the minds of deluded MAGAites whining about Starbucks cups and someone telling them Happy Holidays, so there is no actual war to fight and no danger of actually being injured or killed, unlike Trump's attempt to stir the pot in the middle east with Iran.

Wow. Christmas programs are being banned from schools.

It's possible "their version of America" is the Founders' version that includes separation of church and state and equal treatment of religions.

so goes the so called argument

so goes the myth

ie what they want America to think

which is enforced by the lib [redundancy alert] media

As well they should be. Public schools should not be having religious celebrations. That is the expected result of the ban on school-led or endorsed prayer in public schools per the Engel v. Vitale decision. Go to your church on your own time and your dime if you want to want your child to part in a Christmas play or pageant. All religions and non-belief must be treated equally, so how would you feel if your child was required to take part in annual celebrations of the Hindu, Muslim, Pagan, and Buddhist, Pastafarian and Humanist celebrations at public school? Your tax dollars would also be used to pay for those religious celebrations, just as the tax dollars of non-Christians are being used to pay for Christmas celebrations as part of the public school day.

I wasn't saying that Christmas SHOULD be celebrated in school. Because of the very reason you listed. I do not want my kids subjected to other teachings. I was just pointing out that there is an attack on Christmas, and that is just one way

Treating Christmas equally as other religions is not an attack on Christmas or Chritians.

Christmas is obviously a religious holiday and therefore it has no place as a public school activity. If Christmas is part of the public school year then your child would likewise be forced to take part in Passover Yom Kippur and Radaman celebration, plus many others because the state must treat all religious beliefs equally. There would be a necessary 20 minutes for a rebuttal for non-believers to illustrate their opposition to any religious observance in a pubic school day.

Your religious beliefs are to be kept to your own time at home or at church. Or you can also send your child to a religious school of your own choice on your own dime.

I'm sorry the Muslim woman and so many others there were offended by the prayer in Jesus' name.
What’s the difference between Jesus and a picture of Jesus? It takes just one nail to hang a picture of Jesus.

You do realize other religions are being promoted in some public schools?

And I will not keep my religious beliefs at home, in church or any area specified by anyone.

You don’t have too. You can stand on a milk crate on a corner and preach fire and brimstone if you choose. However I wouldn’t get all Jesus at a restaurant or at work. You might irritate people.

LOL! Do you understand though, that we are supposed to spread the gospel? Granted, many do not want to hear it. But we are told to do that and try to save people.

Good post !!
This is just the tip of the iceberg. The lowly liberal/Demo not only against religion but they do not like the American way of living. The Lil obama regime has proven it.
While these people are beating off at the impeachment hearings our President Trump has improved the economy ten fold and more good news will come.
