Philadelphia's Top Prosecutor Is Prepared to Arrest Federal Agents

After numerous reports and lawsuits in Portland regarding un-badged and un-uniformed federal officers arresting, beating, and detaining people in unmarked vehicles, the Trump administration’s response is that they’re going to do it even more, and in more cities. Saying that his federal agents are doing a “fantastic job,” Trump has suggested that he will also deploy agents in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, Baltimore and Milwaukee to do the same.

In one of those cities, the city prosecutor has already preemptively warned Trump’s police forces what he will do if they bring the same tactics to Philadelphia:

“My dad volunteered and served in World War II to fight fascism, like most of my uncles, so we would not have an American president brutalizing and kidnapping Americans for exercising their constitutional rights and trying to make America a better place, which is what patriots do,” said Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner in a statement. “Anyone, including federal law enforcement, who unlawfully assaults and kidnaps people will face criminal charges from my office.”

One statement worth highlighting:

There are certain areas of shared jurisdiction between federal and local authorities, and frankly, there's a frequent collaboration between federal and local law enforcement on certain types of cases. Often it's cases involving drugs and guns or explosives, for example. So there's nothing unusual about feds being involved in law enforcement in the city. And there's nothing unusual about collaborations between local and federal authorities. They're going on right now in my office.

Gun-related violent crime is up in Philadelphia. That was entirely predictable when we elected a district attorney whose primary goal is releasing criminals rather than prosecuting them.

Gun-related violent crime is rising in Philadelphia. The police force is demoralized. Victims of crimes, their families, and advocacy groups feel betrayed.

This should come as a surprise to absolutely no one.

When he was running for district attorney, Larry Krasner, supported by a PAC funded by George Soros, made his commitment to social reform and reducing the inmate population quite clear. He promised to fundamentally transform the city’s criminal justice system.

Good. That's what they should do.

Unidentified federal authorities cannot and should not be allowed to just walk into any city they want and start "policing" and detaining citizens without due cause. You don't know who these people are. For all we know they could just be hired hands - rouge militia men - who just want to go around beating people. No mayor or governor should be just standing by and allowing this to happen.

The POTUS does have broad powers when it comes to national defense even on domestic soil, BUT he cannot exercise that power without first declaring a national emergency that requires a strong military presence and that presence should be readily identifiable so that everyone knows exactly who they are and why they've been summoned. What Pres. Trump has done is fascism, but he's boarding on tyranny!

Sidenote: The 2nd Amendment crowd has been silent so far where these unidentified, unarmed federal agents have been to the streets in Portland, OR. But I wonder if they'll remain silent if: 1) these agents are deployed in more cities across the country; and, 2) if any of these unidentified federal agents fire upon unarmed civilians. Where they put their 2nd Amendment ideology where they mouth is?

Police said most of the cases had not yet resulted in arrests. On the block where the 6-year-old was killed, neighbors said they were shocked to learn a child died inside with other kids nearby.

so where is this prosecutor at?

Around Wheeler the protest raged late on Wednesday, with protesters lighting a large fire in the space between the fence and the courthouse. Federal agents deployed teargas and stun grenades into the crowd. It was not immediately clear if the agents knew Wheeler was in the crowd when they used the teargas.

you didn't read your article. they were committing arson and lighting crap on fire.
that is no longer a protest that is a riot/civil disturbance.

if the mayor was a real mayor he would have worked in conjunction with law enforcement to get these people under control.
