Pelosi: House will move to transmit impeachment articles next week

You know, we agree on this completely. If it's deserved to do, do it & do it right. Otherwise, it looks like politics.

The timing (and duration) of the Senate impeachment "trial" is also important since it will tie up the DNC 2020 POTUS hopefuls who are also US Senators - forcing them to interrupt their DNC POTUS primary campaigns while others (like Biden) would thus gain an advantage. Pelosi and Schumer may not talk about that aspect, yet they are surely aware of it.

So is McConnell lying when he claims the senate is going to follow the rules in Clinton’s impeachment?

Nancy doesn't want him to follow those rules. She wants him to follow her rules.

She also caved earlier in the process by ending the proceedings before the first person witnesses could be dragged before the House.

However, I have little choice but to trust her political instincts in this matter. I believe she is doing the best she can with what she has & what she is up against.

Really? Tell me...what do you think her motives are? Do you really think she wants Trump out of office?

I don't.

Fair point. I'm actually surprised Pelosi didn't just carry the proceeding into the election year forward.

Oh, I do indeed believe she would love to get Trump out of office. Much of what she does is to influence the upcoming election.

She caved.

Pelosi is out of moves, and she knows it. And of course she looks ridiculous claiming how dangerous Trump is, and important impeachment is, while sitting on the articles for almost a month.

That would be awkward - conducting a trial on indictments that they haven't received and those who wrote them not on hand to present them. I suspect that was bluster and frustration.
Yes. The "trial" would lack credibility. But if seen as a reaction to Pelosi's reticence, it might prevail politically.

McConnell planned to join a resolution to dismiss if Nancy did not send over the articles by next week. Actually this is a win for McConnell because looks like he forced Nancy's hand to finally cave and submit.

Impeachment can't be so necessary that Pelosi had to rush it through before the holidays, and at the same time, be held for almost a month.
Trump's successfully taking out Suleimanni changed the calculus, that's for sure.

I wouldn't doubt she is thinking 100% in political terms looking towards November, and she set-up the delay & SOTU to also deny Trump an exoneration claim at the quickly scheduled SOTU. There's likely other reasons she may want to delay (witnesses, etc.), but she took advantage of quickly scheduling the SOTU.

They are acutely aware that pulling Bernie and Warren off the campaign trail is going to give Pete and Biden an advantage. That's the choice she's made.

I’d read that the Senate was looking to move forward with the trial next week, articles or no. I think Pelosi got as much mileage out of her bit if theater as she was ever going to get, which isn’t much. It was a dumb ploy to begin with and really discounted the seriousness she pretended the process had.

Pretty much.

She'd send them this week, but the Democult doesn't want to distract from hypocritically freaking out over Trump doing something far less odious than Obama's numerous international war crimes.

"We came, we saw, he died". The the power vacuum was filled by ISIS.
And Democrats said what to Obama??

What a perfect election year ad the democrats can now run.

Yep. Pelosi's move was half principle, half leverage and half political, if you catch my drift.

It's fascinating how many who are quick to claim the <other side's> motives are purely political, seem to forget that little truth when they become a bit confused by certain actions.

Un-Constitutional as well.

No it isn't. you guys love to throw around words that you simply do not understand.
THe constitution gives the senate the sole right to trial in impeachment
If pelosi delayed too long then the senate can say we are holding a trial. it is a rules change it is not a constitutional change.
if pelosi failed to prosecute or file charges in that trial then that is soley on her.

that does not stop the senate after a rule change to hold a trial.
without charges and prosecution the articles would die and trump would basically be acquitted.

Republicans and their psycophants live in a false reality. While the hearings were going on, it was too fast and there wasn't enough evidence. When the hearing ended, the process was too slow, and there was too much information to keep it all together. Now, we are back to Nancy doesn't want to draft articles of impeachment and she is caving.

They're the equivalent of teenagers pretending to be responsible adults but not realizing they're just annoying backseat drivers at this point.

Я Баба Яга [emoji328]

Pretty much. They’ll say whatever the man on their AM radio said ten minutes ago, or whatever Shawn Hannity said last night.

That’s about as far as it ever gets.

Your article states McConnell saying, the Senate will have the opportunity to consider hearing from witnesses after the process begins.

That’s almost certainly not going to happen.

this is what happens when you jump in the schiff hole and listen to him. she should have learned her lesson from the russia thing and she didn't.
fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me.

Pelosi got dealt a weak hand, bluffed, and eventually had to fold.

Nancy doesn't want him to follow those rules. She wants him to follow her rules.

So you agree then that McConnell is lying.

Won't happen because the Democrats didn't follow the Clinton Impeachment process in the House either.

The Democrats can eat ****.

While your hatred for democrats is convincing, you haven’t said anything relevant (or true).

Zombie Queen Pelosi & her Walking Dead Party = A grotesque joke

Oh, I do indeed believe she would love to get Trump out of office. Much of what she does is to influence the upcoming election.

All of what she is doing is to influence the upcoming election. She does not want him to be removed by the Senate.

In what manner? If anything, it seems she timed the delay to deny Trump the opportunity to go into the SOTU claiming exoneration.

There you go thinking again. And out of the box, too. Shame on you.

Well, she did indeed move the bar against Trump for impeachment significantly. 538.com has the polls now showing a (scant) majority want Trump impeached and removed, which she moved a sold 12 pts or more. So, it's not like it was all for naught.
