Pelosi: House will move to transmit impeachment articles next week

McConnell planned to join a resolution to dismiss if Nancy did not send over the articles by next week. Actually this is a win for McConnell because looks like he forced Nancy's hand to finally cave and submit.

The passing of such a resolution would not have looked too good.

She's not in a hurry. The alleged crime must not be too serious.

It’s a look that trump’s base will like, but it won’t be appreciated by anybody else.

If you are talking about Nancy's willful delay in sending articles to the senate, the voters do not agree with your conclusions. Can't fault Mitch, he called her bluff and forced her hand. One way or the other, Nancy was losing voter support for holding up the trial.

A majority of voters across the country say that the Democratic-led House should send the articles of impeachment to the Senate, according to a new Hill-HarrisX poll.

The survey, published on Tuesday, showed that 58 percent of voters nationwide said House Democrats should move forward on the articles and send them to the upper chamber for an impeachment trial.

A majority also wants to hear additional witnesses, and it’s pretty clear that McConnell is going to speed through the trial without them.

The result is that trump’s acquittal won’t have the imprimatur of legitimacy.

Most Voters Want More Impeachment Witnesses as Senate Prepares for Trial

She caved.
She also caved earlier in the process by ending the proceedings before the first person witnesses could be dragged before the House.

However, I have little choice but to trust her political instincts in this matter. I believe she is doing the best she can with what she has & what she is up against.

I’d read that the Senate was looking to move forward with the trial next week, articles or no.
Never gonna' happen. Can't happen. Best he could have done was passed some kind of opinion type resolution, but he could not try Trump or exonerate him.

The Senate would try a potus on impeachment charges.....without the charges? How exactly would that work, Constitutionally?

The same way the Democrats impeached Trump without a crime. Democrats spent months claiming they didn't need a crime because it's all political... so the Senate Republicans will just perform a political action by throwing the impeachment in the nearest shredder.

The Democrats can eat ****.

What we can look forward to is McConnell reversing course on following the Clinton impeachment rules as soon as the Senate trial begins.

Won't happen because the Democrats didn't follow the Clinton Impeachment process in the House either.

The Democrats can eat ****.

My guess is that Donald or one of his surrogates has held the SOTU over her head.
In what manner? If anything, it seems she timed the delay to deny Trump the opportunity to go into the SOTU claiming exoneration.

She should have waited. As we can see, there was no reason to rush the vote. The whole 'imminent threat' line was just a lie. If there are witnesses that are vital to impeachment, why didnt the House wait to hear from them before they voted? The idea that there was enough evidence for the House to decide but not enough evidence for the Senate to decide is absurd on its face.

Instead of discovering the truth, Republicans choose to grow the swamp. What a sad day for our country.

This was never about “discovering the truth”.

There’s no requirement in the Constitution for the House to send the articles they vote on to the Senate before the Senate begins its portion of the impeachment proceedings.

Don't even send it to the Senate. Just let it hang in the air.
Everybody knows the Republicans are going to vote against any impeachment no matter what.

Mc Connell is just your typical Republican moron. Has been in government his whole life. Never had any other kind of job.

All that time in office and what has he done for the state of Kentucky? One of the lowest ranking states in health and education.

All he had done is stuffed his pockets with money from the lobbyists.

That would be awkward - conducting a trial on indictments that they haven't received and those who wrote them not on hand to present them. I suspect that was bluster and frustration.

I’d agree with you if this were a criminal proceeding.

It’s a look that trump’s base will like, but it won’t be appreciated by anybody else.
Uh, I may differ. Or, at least claim: "I'm not so sure".

I think Pelosi got all the mileage out of this she could. A successful motion to dismiss, given that Pelosi won't act, might go over well enough with quite a few Americans. Now I admit, Trump in turn would be denied being exonerated. But that might be reasonably spun as due to Pelosi's reticence. And it might resonate.

All that remains now, is finding-out if she denied Trump a claim of exoneration at the SOTU. She may have, and right now the Dems will take any little win they can.

Why couldn’t it happen?

You know, we agree on this completely. If it's deserved to do, do it & do it right. Otherwise, it looks like politics.

Really? So with no articles, what the hell do they vote on? A resolution?

Why couldn’t it happen?
Because he has no article before him. He may be able to pass some type of resolution, but he will never be able to acquit without charges.

You know the articles exist and have been posted online, right? They don’t suddenly burst into being because of an optional procedural activity.
