OLC determines that Trump's tax returns DO NOT have to be disclosed

Yes. Some of his returns are not under audit. He can release those

FEBRUARY 25, 2015:

Trump told radio host Hugh Hewitt that he would "certainly show tax returns if it was necessary."

FEBRUARY 25, 2016:

Trump tweeted that he's already filed public financial disclosure forms that are "great." He said that tax returns "have 0 to do w/ someone's net worth."

The disclosure forms do give wide estimates of asset value. But tax returns would reveal much more. Even the top two pages of his 1040 and Schedule A, for example, would say how much taxable income he made, how much he paid in taxes, his charitable contributions and whether he paid tax to any foreign governments.

Just for your info, tax returns have 0 to do w/ someone's net worth. I have already filed my financial statements w/ FEC. They are great!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 25, 2016
During a CNN-Telemundo debate later that day, Trump said he wanted to release his tax returns, but could not while he's under audit.

"I've had it for years. I get audited. And obviously if I'm being audited, I'm not going to release a return," he said. "As soon as the audit is done, I love it."

All the things Donald Trump and his team have said about releasing his tax returns

so please other than in 2014 way before he ran for office, show me where he said he WOULD RELEASE his tax returns

and the audits arent over....as his attorneys and tax accountants have said

This issue is simply one in line with the modern day American's rather juvenile, celebrity obsessed, voyeuristic need to insert themselves, judgmentally, into the private lives of public figures. There isn't a person in Canada who gives a rat's ass what the tax returns are of any Canadian politician. We don't even pay much attention to the families of our national politicians unless the politician his/herself makes them a focal point of their campaign. We're just not that nosy. You guys should try it sometime.

“Maybe I’m going to do the tax returns when Obama does his birth certificate ... I’d love to give my tax returns. I may tie my tax returns into Obama’s birth certificate."

One week later, Obama produced his birth certificate and trump lost his love for giving his tax returns.

On top of the fact that an audit is no bar to producing his tax returns, his attorneys and his tax accountants are not credible sources for the claim that he's even being audited in the first place.

Good for you.

Do you care if your politicians lie to you?

Oh then you must really think Obama is a horse's ass for all the lies he told. Notably that if you like your doctor and if you like your plan you can keep it.

Good to know you're not just another partisan hack.

It's a testament to Obama's honesty that while we're forced to pick any one of the 11,000 lies that Trump has told, Republicans are only ever able to reach for that one single inaccurate statement made by Obama.

I think the worst one is when they’re confronted by how dumb a lot of what Trump says is and they resort to “well Obama thought there was 57 states” and they will never understand how pathetic it is to cling to an over 10 year old gaffe when Trump says stupider things on the daily and he means them.

It's false equivalency taken to levels it was never meant to be.

"The New York Times just reported that trump regularly ran over dogs with his car in order to let off steam. He would start every day by getting in his car, backing out of his driveway, and just running over every dog he saw like it was Grand Theft Auto."

Trump supporter: "Yeah, well Obama once hit a dog with his car in high school. I GUESS IT WAS OKAY THEN."

The kind of smear I just used? You're not making any sense. If it is released, like he promised he'd do, there would be no "hiding" to smear him with as you put it.

You would like Trump to reveal his tax returns because he promised he would.

Reveal | Definition of Reveal by Merriam-Webster

2 : to make (something secret or hidden) publicly or generally known.

Do you suspect Trump is hiding something that can be used to smear him and that is why he hasn't released his tax returns?

Clearly he is terrified of releasing his returns. They must contain something awful

He lied. It would be very easy for him to keep this promise. It costs nothing. It is just a flat out lie.

He may decide anything in the future. He could become a liberal .....again. His word means nothing.

And you are ok with that

Okay, Then don't vote for him in 2020.

Roseann:)

Since he has not lived up to your expectations don't vote for him in 2020.

Roseann:)

Trust me I won't.

And clearly he lied. I think its because he gave money to planned parenthood. His base will kill him for that

Do you think his tax returns becoming public would be bad for him?

I never thought for a second you would be voting for Trump.

I doubt that would make a difference to his base. Trump was pro-choice, so I wouldn't be surprised to see past planned parenthood donations.

Today, he is an advocate for pro-life and has established that through actions and not just words.

Do you think his tax returns becoming public would be bad for him?

I will need to wait and see if his tax returns ever become public to answer that question.

Any answer I give you this moment would be based on assumptions and not based on fact.

I know that trump supporters don't want his tax returns to be made public because they'll be used to smear him. That's a funny position to take when you think about it, since everybody else has released their tax returns and nobody's used them to smear those candidates.

Ask him. He's the one who promised to do so and hasn't.

He has lived up to your expectations. Vote for him

He lived up to some of my expectations but not all of them. He is a flawed man in many personal aspects but in spite of that I can recognize when he does beneficial things for America and the People of America.

I may need to because the other Candidates running to get nominated to be the one to run against him are flawed concerning their unrealistic ideas for changing America and their disdain for the Constitutional Rights of the American People.

Not a funny position to take when Trump is constantly smeared in public by a multitude of his resistors.

I have read multiple smear Trump threads and posts on this forum and there weren't just about his tax returns.
