NHL - 2016/2017 Season [W:290]

Somewhere, Zyphlin is smiling.

And how fitting a Toronto native gets the overtime goal against Toronto.

The Atlanta Thrashers shall win the Stanley Cup for the staggering 6th year in a row.

At least, in my head.

I hear that Kovalchuk kid is going to lead them to a bunch of cups...

Al in all, I'd say it was a pretty encouraging game for the Leafs, proving they deserve to be in the playoffs and with a little more puck luck which all seemed to go Washington's way, the Leafs could/would have won the game. The Leafs still have an uncanny knack of giving up 2 goal leads although they were better at protecting them later in the year. Encouraging that they were able to pressure the Washington defense into a ton of giveaways and their speed was hard for Washington to handle. Was a crime that after the ref fantasized goalie interference on the Leafs' second goal and had to eat crow on the challenge, they came right back and called two cheap penalties against the Leafs giving the Caps a two man advantage for almost two minutes that ultimately led to Washington's first fluky goal - that changed the momentum big time.

Think the Leafs can still make this a long series and maybe even win - not impressed with Washington's first game - the young Leafs looked far less nervous than the Caps.

CBJ is proving they are no match for the Champs.

Man, what is wrong with Ottawa? They have not lost yet, but they also have not played well at all. They should seriously be better than Boston...

Hey, they woke up.

There have been some gaps of bad giveaways, but overall, the Sens have played well. Funny thing, they seem to play better on the road -- at least it was the case in the regular season. The way they came back today is huge and a momentum swinger. Hopefully they can take it with them back to Boston.

As for me, well, I need a defibriliator. The only team I despise more than the Leafs are the Bruins.

Holtby is just such a smart goaltender. Move that puck over icing it and having a face off in zone.

The Blackhawks are planning on actually showing up to the playoffs soon.

Hopefully, it will be sometime in the next 30 minutes.

Have they even scored on the Predators yet in the series? 3-0 so far tonight.

30 minutes later, and they still have not shown up.

How to beat Toronto: give them the lead...

Now 4-0.

Q is so desperate he's got Kane, Toews AND Panarin skating together.

Pointless effort. 4-0 is basically impossible to come back from in less than a period.

I hear you can find video of the Chicago game on porn sites. Check the "Public Humiliation" category.

I didn't bother watching it. I can only assume the Nashville goalie is on fire. He turned away 30 shots. I imagine some of those saves were outstanding.

No. Rinne didn't do anything special.

It was mostly Campbell and Oduya deciding to make Keith do all the work.

I would argue that almost no one on the Chicago team wanted to do much work, and Nashville is really good playing with the lead. If you watch, Nashville forced almost all the plays in their defensive zone to the outside. Chicago could shoot, but they where low percentage shots. In the meantime, Nashville is grinding Chicago down.

Edit: it should be noted though that Rinne has 2 more assists than the entire Chicago roster.

Another very entertaining game, particularly since the Leafs appear to be the team with the most raw talent and speed and the vaunted Washington defense looks old at times in their own end. Coming home with a 1-1 split in games against the supposed best team in hockey isn't bad and they could be coming home 2-0. Playing playoff hockey in Toronto, however, is going to be a whole new experience for them and the pressure will shift a little to the Leafs and it will be up to Babcock to shield his young team from the media onslaught they will face Sunday and Monday morning. Most people have no idea how massive hockey is in Toronto.

The game was ruined a bit by poor penalty calls on both sides and the linesmen on faceoffs were just jackasses the whole night. Officials should never be an issue and they were a focus the whole game - crew shouldn't be assigned to another game in any series, they were that bad.

Will be fun to watch this Leafs team when their best players get a couple of years experience. Right now, however, they're playing fearless, loose hockey and it's very entertaining.

The Leafs are in a whole lot of trouble if they cannot figure out how to hold onto a lead though. But yeah, in a couple years, those young players are going to be insane scary good.
