"Since the 2015 playoffs, I've been struggling to understand what was going on with my body," Bickell said via a statement released by the team Friday afternoon.
"Again during the past few weeks, it felt like something wasn't right," Bickell added. "Obviously this is a bit of shock for my family and me, but I am hopeful I will be able to return to the ice and continue playing the game that I love."
NHL player hit with a slapshot in face gets 36 stitches then returns to score game-winning goal
Time to start a new thread for the upcoming NHL season.
Draft coming up in a few days with the Leafs picking 1st along with 10 other picks in other rounds.
Leafs traded a couple of their picks - 30th, first round, from Pittsburgh and a second rounder from San Jose - to acquire rights to Anahiem goalie Frederik Andersen and promptly signed him to a 5 year, $27.5 million contract, securing their goaltending for the next 5 years, allowing them to concentrate on getting some back end help in the draft and in free agency. Very good move by the Leafs, in my view, because Bernier has proven he's not up to the task of being a number one and they don't have a prospective number one in the minors. Anderson has proven he's capable and without goaltending, as we saw this year, all the hard work of the offense and defense gets lost and the team's attitude suffers.
If the Leafs now find a way to sign Stamkos, and Matthews is the real deal as first pick, along with Marner moving up, they could be instant contenders for a playoff spot next year.
Have fun guys and enjoy your team's new year. Unlike last year, I'm looking forward to spending some time following the Leafs.
Never doubt the toughness of hockey players.....

I'm ambivalent about the Flyers, but it is nice to see that they can actually play in the first half of a season for a change instead of burying their year before Christmas.
Well of course the big fear is peaking at the wrong time of year.
Still so much time to flush themselves down the drain.
I'm just enjoying a few really good weeks while I can.
The nine-game winning streak for the Flyers (18-10-3) is the longest in the NHL this season and their first since April 2-22, 1995.
Whoa...1995? I really gotta enjoy this while I can.
TEN!!!
Tied for longest in Flyers franchise history. :july_4th::2party::beer:
It is the Flyers' longest winning streak since 1985 and matches their third-longest in franchise history. The club record is 13 straight wins in 1985.
Oops....I mis-read something...
I could be wrong, but don't the Flyers have the longest undefeated streak in sports, something like almost 40 games without a loss?
Longest Unbeaten Streak by a Team 35 Games — Philadelphia Flyers
Note: The 35-game stretch included 10 ties.
Hockey for us Blue Jackets fans has been rather exciting this season. We the faithful fans finally have something to cheer about. They are currently third place in the Metropolitan Division, just one single point behind the Penguins. Big game tonight against the Penguins.
My eight year old grandson plays on a hockey team. A few weeks back they got to go up against another team at Nationwide arena during intermission at a Blue Jackets game as the future Blue Jackets (3 minutes or so on the ice). He was dressed just like a Blue Jacket only pint size. It was a big deal for him to be playing in the arena. He was the only one to score a goal. He had a chance at a second one and just missed it. He was named MVP and they interviewed him on the jumbo screen. Papa Johns awarded him with a certificate for free pizzas.
Game time in 6 minutes. Go Blue Jackets!
