The contract hasn't been signed, but Tom Brady will be a Tampa Bay Buccaneer in 2020.

After two-plus decades. Brady decided to leave the New England Patriots for greener pastures away from Bill Belichick in Florida. But how did we get here?

Brady's decision reportedly wasn't made on a whim. The wheels for him to move on from the Pats were set in motion three years ago, sources told Bleacher Report's Matt Miller.

As the 2017 season approached, the Patriots faced a conundrum about what to do with their future at quarterback. Brady was aging, and then-25-year-old Jimmy Garoppolo was waiting in the wings. When would be the right time to move on from the greatest quarterback in history?

The 49ers called at the trade deadline, and after general manager John Lynch claims he jokingly asked about Brady, the teams agreed on a deal that sent Garoppolo to the Bay Area.

But that might not have been how it went down.

According to Miller, the 49ers originally called about Garoppolo, but Belichick instead offered Brady, wanting to keep the young quarterback to extend the Patriots' dynasty. A Patriots source confirmed to Miller that this is what happened, but team owner Robert Kraft squashed the idea of trading Brady.

"Kraft shut that s--t down fast," a source close to Belichick told Miller. "So, instead, Lynch gets Garoppolo, but Brady, Belichick and Kraft haven't been the same since Tom learned that Bill was ready to get rid of him. And that lit a fire under his ass."

Brady, fueled by Belichick's desire to ditch him for Garoppolo, took the Patriots to two more Super Bowls, winning one. All the while, the legendary quarterback restructured his deal, so the Patriots wouldn't be able to franchise tag him and he'd be free to leave.

Maybe. Belichick tried to trade Gronk but Gronk refused to play with any team that didn't have Brady as its QB.

I see you can't argue the facts, like most Cheatriot fanboys, and so you try to discredit the messenger. Says a lot more about you than it does about me.

I would say 6-7, but your ranking of 9-10 is good enough for me. That means the Bucs will have a top 10 QB that isnt prone to the mistakes made by Winston with a solid team and a whole new mindset. You already acknowledge the playoffs are realistic...so really now its just a question of talent moves. I cant imagine TB goes after TB without a plan to invest resources to win a championship.

For Tampa to make the playoffs next season they have to replace one of three playoff teams from last season - either New Orleans, Minnesota, or Seattle. Which of those do you see them beating? And remember, Tampa last year had the number 3 offense in the league, behind Baltimore and Dallas, and Winston threw for over 5,000 yards to lead the league. A lot of Tampa's failure to make the playoffs has been loaded on Winston's shoulders, in my view, a little unfairly.

I don't really see the Brady of last year being a significant improvement on the offense, if at all, to overcome the team's other weaknesses - regardless of what you say, Brady was statistically in the bottom five of starters in the league and had his worst year in his career and that was not all about the team around him and far more about his deterioration.

But, as you say, we will see. I just harken back to around this time last year when the Cleveland Browns were being touted as Super Bowl contenders - fans and pundits like to overreact to change.
 
As a Steelers fan, one who tries to be realistic about my team's potential, I hope management is considering offering contracts to both Winston and Gurley. I think Winston has the arm and mobility to prosper in the Steelers environment and since he's similar to a young Big Ben could learn a lot from him in the couple of years Big Ben has left. Clearly, the current Steelers backups are not capable of leading a winning team. As for Gurley, the Steelers offensive line could do for him what they did for Le'Veon Bell for several years ago and while I like everything about James Connor, he's not nearly as talented a running back as Gurley is and Gurley is only 25 and certainly not done.

Both options depend on the asking price and term each player will be looking for but the Steelers would be a good fit for both and both would benefit individually as well with such a move.

World of difference between making the playoffs...with the new format...and winning the SuperBowl. But for the turnovers last year, the Bucs could have won several of those very close games.

Who will they displace...well...with the new format they dont have to displace anyone, but again, we'll have to see what everyones roster looks like at the start of the season. Should be an interesting year.

America likes underdogs. For the first time, Brady will be one. Tampa is an underdog though a sleeper beneath the picks. Brady could win one without the system, with a new team and at home. That would kinda put his Goat out of reach in the NFL as it exists today. Even Mahomes. If the question is, "seven and the last at home with a different team?" then the answer is "not gonna happen". Kinda forever. If he wins in Tampa, he's approaching Forever Goat. Surpassing him would be inconceivable.

Talent is hitting a target no one else can. Genius is hitting a target no one else saw. Brady is a genius. He has plans.

Sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter that it is a two-year deal worth $50 million that is all guaranteed. It also includes another $9 million in incentives -- $4.5 million in incentives per year -- and the contract prohibits tags and trades, per sources...

The Bucs jumped on it quickly, offering one of the most talented young receiving tandems in the league in Pro Bowlers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, who both eclipsed 1,100 yards last year despite not playing full seasons, along with two 6-foot-5 tight ends, Cameron Brate and O.J. Howard...

The Buccaneers added some offensive line protection for Brady on Friday, reaching an agreement with former Indianapolis Colts tackle Joe Haeg.

Gronk is 30. No reason he couldn't come back as a Buc.
 
My only question now is will the Bucs switch back to their creamsicle jerseys with the Errol Flynn logo on their helmets?

my thought, too
but then belichick declared him public enemy #1 in cam's prime

while i liked rivera, he was too much of a player's coach for cam
cam NEEDS a coach who will kick him in the ass when warranted
not sure cam is there to realize that, yet
hopefully, he figures it out
