New favorite candidate: Pete Buttigieg

I've already addressed this in a response to someone else, but it's literally everyone else being divisive by trying to stifle Bernie. Aside from Biden, who he's neck and neck with, he's miles ahead of the other candidates, and yet, there are corporate donors and PACs jumping for Pete or Kamala...I wonder why that is? I wonder why the big money interests aren't interested in the most popular of the current candidates? Could it be because they stand to be 2% less profitable if he gets to make some changes?

You have your favorites, and I have mine, but remember that regardless of whoever wins the primary, that person is going to need our undivided support. If that candidate enters the campaign against Trump bloodied by his or her own side, we're beaten.

That's fine, but don't sit here and talk about Bernie being divisive when he's in the lead and everyone else is trying to drag him down to boost someone else.

For the last two years my favorite candidates have been Elizabeth Warren for her vast policy resumé, Kamala Harris for her steely focus and energy, and Beto O'Rourke for his ability to energize a crowd. All of these are incredibly important traits, but I think what they lack is a philosopher's soul. For that I give you: Pete Buttigieg.

I like Mayor Pete, but you seem to be going with the flavor of the week. I don't see Pete beating Trump. But, I could be wrong.

I do see either Kamala or Bernie beating him.

Even if he announces he is running with Stacy Abrams as his running mate? I think that could help him a ton. In fact I think that would make all the other 2020 contenders feel like the deck is stacked against them. I think it would be a shame actually.

Stacy is not going to be his running mate if he wins the nomination
( she already turned the idea down, IIRC )

I think he will pick Tulsi Gabbard, who has strong foreign policy chops ( two tours, Army Major, in the middle east ) served on the Armed Services committee and the Foreign Affairs committee, and she has a helluva resume.

Tulsi Gabbard - Wikipedia

She's also running for president, but she isn't getting much traction in the media.

Buttgig's lack of any specific platform on his website is troubling. Sign of a wolf in sheep's clothing. He could get elected and govern like some blue dog DINO.

That combined with his white-male-osity is hard to ignore, LGBT status notwithstanding. Democrats should make it a priority to nominate a woman, preferably a woman of color.

Don may only have a hardcore base of 30%, but America is still split almost 50/50 overall. I'd rather not see Sanders getting a 90% approval by Dems during the primary, while he's polling 50 points below Numnuts.

It was one thing for America to take a chance on Don, it's quite another that he's still receiving so much support. America is filled with stupid people and it's much easier to appeal to stupid people's hate and fear than to their better natures...

RealClearPolitics - Election 2020 - General Election: Trump vs. Sanders

Only Rassmussen has Sanders losing to Trump. Even Fox News' poll has Sanders beating Trump.

I really like this guy.

I have issues with a few of the things he has done. I won't be voting for him in the primary. If by any chance he does make it through, I will definitely vote for him over Trump.

At this stage Trump would probably lose in the polls to a six-inch off cut of untreated 2X4.

Mayors have to get things done. Compromise means accepting policies that aren't perfect.

If it's the same next year, I'm all Sanders...

I'm not down on any dem candidate. I'm just more up on some than others. So I get peeved when I see Dems bashing Sanders. It's like they can't just prefer one over the other... they have to hate who they see as the opposition. It's very republican of them.

I agree. I fear there's more bashing to come. Although I have to point out that the worst so far has come from a Sander's campaign email attacking, "The Democratic establishment" and their "big donors". Pleeeze.

Posters here are one thing, nothing said here goes anywhere. But Sanders attack on "The establishment" made national news. Not good.

It's way too early for this crap, if this keeps up for a year, were ____ed...

And if/when Sander's doesn't get the nomination, his most fanatical supporters will either throw away their votes via third party, or stay home, as a way of "showing the establishment, maaaan!".

I like Sanders, but some of his supporters can be as disconnected as Clinton's.

When I wake up in the middle of the night with a shiver and a cold sweat, it's because I had that nightmare...

The vitriol I'm seeing is on the tv from old school lefty's bitching about Sanders and basically trying to blame him for Hillary losing. Which is absurd.

I'll say this for Republicans, they always see the big picture in elections, and put aside their differences at the ballot box.

Even when they don't win they can sleep easy knowing, no votes were wasted. Whereas with Democrats they fight, feud, and undermine each other all the way up to election day, and often it costs them big time.

The answer to why Clinton lost is 'all of the above'.

We can blame Sanders, the DNC, Clinton, the FBI, or whatever we want, but it doesn't capture the bigger issue, which is that Democratic voters grossly dropped the ball.

Yeah, Clinton ran a ****ty campaign, but so did Trump, and the GOP base still stuck together in the name of grabbing the courts, which Democratic voters failed to understand was happening on the other side. Hell, even in years like 2000 and 2004, where the GOP put up somebody almost as retarded as Trump, and the blue base still **** the bed.

We have to stick together like last year to win.

A Wildcat sports forum I frequent is mostly very liberal and about 90% of them are against Sanders. They just can't stand him.

Like most Sanders fans, I like all the candidates. I just like Sanders the most.

The anti-Sanders folks are built in abject hate and they fizzle when you ask them why they hate Sanders.

Pete Buttigieg Stuns Campaign Crowd By Speaking To Manufacturing Robots In Fluent Binary

DES MOINES, IA—Revealing that he taught himself the language after developing an interest in computer science and artificial intelligence, Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg stunned a campaign crowd Wednesday by speaking to manufacturing robots in fluent binary. “01001001 00100111 01101101 00100000 01101000 01101111 01101110 01101111 01110010 01100101 01100100 00100000 01110100 01101111 00100000 01101101 01100101 01100101 01110100 00100000 01110111 01101001 01110100 01101000 00100000 01110011 01110101 01100011 01101000 00100000 01101000 01100001 01110010 01100100 00101101 01110111 01101111 01110010 01101011 01101001 01101110 01100111 00101100 00100000 01110100 01110010 01110101 01100101 00100000 01000001 01101101 01100101 01110010 01101001 01100011 01100001 01101110 01110011 00101110 00100000,” said the 37-year-old South Bend, IN mayor to the awe-struck machines, delivering the message by emitting a series of high-pitched tones and beeps with a perfect accent. “To all of you, I say 01100001 01110011 00100000 01110000 01110010 01100101 01110011 01101001 01100100 01100101 01101110 01110100 00101100 00100000 01001001 00100000 01110111 01101001 01101100 01101100 00100000 01101110 01100101 01110110 01100101 01110010 00100000 01110011 01110100 01101111 01110000 00100000 01100110 01101001 01100111 01101000 01110100 01101001 01101110 01100111 00100000 01100110 01101111 01110010 00100000 01111001 01101111 01110101 00101110 01000100 01100101 01110011 01110000 01101001 01110100 01100101 00100000 01101111 01110101 01110010 00100000 01100100 01101001 01100110 01100110 01100101 01110010 01100101 01101110 01100011 01100101 01110011 00100000 01110111 01100101 00100000 01100001 01101100 01101100 00100000 01110111 01100001 01101110 01110100 00100000 01100110 01110010 01100101 01100101 01100100 01101111 01101101 00101100 00100000 01100100 01100101 01101101 01101111 01100011 01110010 01100001 01100011 01111001 00101100 00100000 01100001 01101110 01100100 00100000 01100101 01101100 01100101 01100011 01110100 01110010 01101001 01100011 01101001 01110100 01111001 00101110 00100000.” At press time, U.S. manufacturing robots had donated $10 million dollars to Buttigieg’s campaign and helped him surge to the top of polls among Democratic primary candidates.

There are times I absolutely adore The Onion. This is one of those times.

He's a 'morning glory' in 3 months he'll be forgotten entirely. Don't you remember the fast out of the shoot front runners of
the past like Herman Cain & Ben Carson who got an awfully intense amount of hype early on. Both actually held the lead in some polls then eventually their uniqueness wore off!

Yes, when I observe the Democratic primary process, I'm always going to look to the opinion of a "conservative" from Long Island to fill me in on who the registered Democrats will be voting for in their state primaries.

We need to know a bit more about the guy. He seems to have been successful as mayor. With an 80% reelection, he must have done something right, but I have to read more about that and what factors lead to his reelection.
It seems that he is a bit hesitant on the issues, and most of his focus is on diversity and civil rights, perhaps because of personal experience. I don't mean this in a negative way.

Thus far, he is still my favorite, although with Gillibrand attaching herself to him, and him being much more stand-off-ish, we'll have to see how far he makes it this time around

Being honest here, I feel that if someone that was a combination of Mother Theresa, Mahatma Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln and Conan O'Brien (threw him in for sense of humor), that Trump and his supporters at Fox would find something to use to demonize that person in some way. "She's too black, he's too gay, that one is too old, the other one kisses children, that one is a slave driver of a boss, etc."

Essentially, the democrats must magically produce the silver-bullet candidate that would wipe out Trump by a landslide. So, they're going to have to be surgically precise when choosing one of the 20 or so who have announced.
