More hysteria..."BIGGEST STORM EVER!"

Re: More hysteria..."BIGGEST STORM EVER!"

No news agency ever predicted that Florence would be a Category 5 hurricane, not one. What you read and what your mind wanted to read are two different things. What they DID say on Tuesday the hurricane was a Category 4 with sustained winds of 140 mph and gusts of 170 mph and could potentially become a Cat 5. Just so you understand how hurricanes are categorized based on wind speed. As you can clearly see from the table below, the difference between a Cat 4 and a Cat 5 is an increase of 1 mph or greater. There has only been three Cat 5 hurricanes that have struck the east coast of the US, Andrew-1992, Camille-1969 and an unnamed storm in 1930.

As everyone knows, or should know, nobody can predict what a hurricane will do with any certainty. Even the most skilled meteorologist utilizing the most sophisticated technology can only estimate where a hurricane will make landfall and how strong it will be when it does. It's smart to err on the side of caution and safety for people's lives with a big storm like this. As someone said, it's not wind damage that causes most deaths, it's water. These lowlands of N. Carolina have never been as densely populated before and this is a big consideration when evacuating large numbers of people. There was a 3.7 percent population increase in the Conway-Myrtle Beach-North Myrtle Beach metro area from July 2016 to the same time in 2017, the Census Bureau estimated.

The Myrtle Beach area gained 16,372 residents, almost 45 a day

The increase of civilian populations residing in these areas along the coast has virtually exploded in numbers in the last 20 years which puts enormous numbers of people at risk if they aren't given adequate warning of an approaching hurricane, even a Cat 2 can be deadly along the coast and evacuating the shear numbers of people takes a lot of planning and many days in advance of a big storm. Everything that the news reporting did was exactly as it should have done. Playing the 'what if?' game .... what if the storm made landfall as a Cat 2 yet nobody had been forewarned or cautioned to leave. There would be a great number of people at risk of losing their life.

Category 2 (96-110 mph): Well-constructed frame homes could sustain major roof and siding damage. Many shallowly rooted trees will be snapped or uprooted and block numerous roads. Near-total power loss is expected with outages that could last from several days to weeks.

Category 3 (111-129 mph): Well-built framed homes may incur major damage or removal of roof decking and gable ends. Many trees will be snapped or uprooted, blocking numerous roads. Electricity and water will be unavailable for several days to weeks after the storm passes.

Category 4 (130 - 156 mph): Well-built framed homes can sustain severe damage with loss of most of the roof structure and/or some exterior walls. Most trees will be snapped or uprooted and power poles downed. Fallen trees and power poles will isolate residential areas. Power outages will last weeks to possibly months. Most of the area will be uninhabitable for weeks or months.

Category 5 (157 mph or higher): A high percentage of framed homes will be destroyed, with total roof failure and wall collapse. Fallen trees and power poles will isolate residential areas. Power outages will last for weeks to possibly months. Most of the area will be uninhabitable for weeks or months.

jesus can you guys google anything. Also your lefty buddies here said noaa predicted cat5...which of you is lying?

And so it continues...the raw hysteria about an occurrence which is anything but unique. "President Trump is complicit!"...lol

Are you people going to continue to believe this man made global climate change narrative after yet again being so wrong?

Isn't the "warmer ocean temperatures" supposed to strengthen a storm? What is the excuse this time?

You put "BIGGEST STORM EVER" in quotes. So, what's the citation?

There will be so much disappointment if a whole bunch of people do not die, and there is nothing to "blame on Trump".

He DID start the hurricane, you know, #becauseracism.....

jesus can you guys google anything. Also your lefty buddies here said noaa predicted cat5...which of you is lying?

Again, you're misinformed. NOBODY, let me make this clear enough for you, NOBODY 'predicted' that this storm would become a Category 5 hurricane. I think you need some google lessons yourself but more than googling you really need to read what you google without jumping to the conclusions your mind chooses to make.

READ THE WORDS: "Hurricane Florence, currently a Category 4 storm, may strengthen to a Category 5 hurricane before weakening again on its approach toward the North or South Carolina coastlines.

And this: "Florence’s maximum sustained winds would have to reach 157mph for it to be categorized as a five on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale." https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1016519/hurricane-florence-projected-path-category-5-hurricane-east-coast

Why do people just make up stuff? Why is it always a 'thing' that the right does creating controversy over minutia and lack of information? Nobody, and I repeat once again. Nobody said it would become a Cat 5 !!

please google yhe phrase I posted. Its all there. Your leftist friends also claimed noaa predicted cat 5, then theres all the news channelss that are on video you can check if you arent lazy.

Re: More hysteria..."BIGGEST STORM EVER!"

Dude you couldnt google a phrase...what could you possibly do with links if you cant even google. Im not your mom, Im not here to help you learn things, Im here to demonstrate you cant as I just did. You literally could not google a simple phrase. If you did, you would have found numerous links. Thats what members of political forums do in order to be efficient. Jesus man. Thats lazier than facebookers.

I did Google it, and the articles I found indicate you're lying about what the stories say. That's where I'll leave it.

Re: More hysteria..."BIGGEST STORM EVER!"

There’s always a possibility of a storm strengthening.

Why is this being portrayed as a big librul plot?

Oddly... your odd news link says that SOME people think it MIGHT have a chance to be a category 5, and then devotes the vast majority of the article to speculating what a cat 5 hurricane would do. You apparently think that writing lots of words on a cat 5 means that EVERYBODY KNEW it was going to be a cat 5.

You’re definitely one of the suckers the weather channel preys on.

Just because I consult ALL the news instead of just that reporting what I want it to say? And nobody said anything about a liberal plot. I was arguing somebody else's very accurate observation that if the experts can't predict what a hurricane will do over the course of one to two weeks or even a few days, it can logically follow that they aren't any better at predicting what conditions will be 20 - 50 - 100 years from now either.

Re: More hysteria..."BIGGEST STORM EVER!"

please everyone google "Hurricane Florence predicted to be a cat5". See for yourself if lefty here is informed or myself.

I did that exact quote. Here's the result:

If you consulted ALL the news, it would have included the National Hurricane Center and any reporting based on their forecasts, and they never predicted it would be a Cat 5 storm, and definitely never predicted it would make landfall at that strength. If some clickbait news source made that claim, that's your fault for considering them "news" and not junk sites looking for clicks.

And not being able to predict the strength of a storm has nothing to do with climate forecasts, any more than a doctor not being able to tell you the DAY you'll die means he can't be trusted on the long term prospects of a cancer or heart disease patient.

LOL. Besides the absolute validity of your response, I’ll just highlight that predicting climate conditions in 50-100 years is much easier than predicting what will happen in a few weeks.

I can’t predict what the Cubs will do tomorrow, but I can predict that they’ll be one of the best teams in the National League next year. I can’t predict if it will snow this December, but I can know the probability of how often we have snow in December over the next few decades.

He DID start the hurricane, you know, #becauseracism.....

So that's what TDS looks like.

No one called it the "biggest storm ever." Nice failed strawman though.

There was much excitement among the global warming wacko's about it being "The biggest hurricane this far north in recorded history!"...pay attention.

Re: More hysteria..."BIGGEST STORM EVER!"

But it has. The dire predictions of the '70's have mostly not come to pass. In particular of those like that Nobel winner Algore.

Few people question climate change. Major climate change has happened at least 6 times we know of. What's in dispute is how serious it is and exactly what causes it. Then what, if anything, mankind can or should do about it.

They found warming, that has not changed. There was never much dispute about the cause, both Darpa and the oil company research nailed it way back in the 70s.

As the science matures, you get a better idea about the specifics.

Al Gore got some things right, and some things wrong. One thing he got right is that this is a problem we have to deal with.

link?

EnigmaO01, here's a little more science for ya. Hurricane Florence just moved across the Gulf Stream (warm water) and lost strength, not gained.

My point exactly. If they’re wrong about that, what are they right about?

You are regurgitating Fox idiocy, again. "the left"? Who, what and where is this "left"? Did Tucker/Hannity or Ingrahm tell you?

Hint : Taking the words of one person and calling it "the left" is pretty shallow, aka dumb.

Look in the mirror. I don’t know a single conservative that buys into what you call “climate science”...my side has all the footing on this issue, being that EVERY SINGLE prediction from the global warming nut jobs has been a lie.

Ya know, when you find yourself talking about the sciences in the same terms an atheist uses about religion or a philistine uses about the arts you just might be being deliberately ignorant and obtuse.
At least, you should hope it's deliberate. Because the alternative is, well, let's not go there.

And yet, I’ve been proven correct on the issue time and again.

Re: More hysteria..."BIGGEST STORM EVER!"

The cost of hurricane damage increasing is not a function of the severity of the storm, but rather of the change in structures in the path. Nags Head, as an example, 50 years ago was developed with 500 ft 1 level cottages on relatively large sites.Today million + dollar multi level structures are the norm.

One thing about lefties...they are ignorant when it comes to facts.

I agree that it is an inaccurate science, so why the **** do you support making energy policy based on it?

Re: More hysteria..."BIGGEST STORM EVER!"

Again, only part of the story.

You are trying to close your eyes and wish this away.

It's here to stay, and it's going to get a lot worse.

Based on what?

Hurricane activity over the LAST FIFTY YEARS, is 37% of what it was I the PREVIOUS FIFTY YEARS...some "climate change"...

Re: More hysteria..."BIGGEST STORM EVER!"

I did Google it, and the articles I found indicate you're lying about what the stories say. That's where I'll leave it.

I dont really care what somone who cant search things properly thinks.
lol
As Hurricane Florence barrels towards the U.S. East Coast, many forecasters say the “extremely dangerous” storm could grow into a Category 5 before making landfall — the most catastrophic level.

Do you guys need video handed to you in order to get it?

So it hasn't even made landfall and you've already decided it's a nothing burger?

Here's a little science for you:

Very strong hurricanes can actually weaken themselves with the strongest winds by pulling up deeper colder water which actually works against them.

We should put you in the landfall area and see what you think of what a lack of a big deal this storm is, and it's the rain that is the biggie with this storm. Potentially 40 inches of rain is nothing to sneeze at.

The government climate scientists are really good at explaining what happened after it happened. They're not any good at predicting what will happen.
