Mom Sends Her ‘Gendered’ Son, 3, to Ballet Class to Make Him More ‘Girlish’

I think the mother's attitude is horrible but I do not see anything wrong with signing the kid up for ballet, it is not different than signing a kid up for soccer or football or whatever.

Its her reason for signing him up...too make him more girlish not because he wants to be a ballet dancer

Would u sign your daughter up for boxing in an attempt to make her more mannish?

I’m going to turn the little alphabet belcher into a proud princess whether he likes it or not.

She should be jailed for child abuse which is exactly what this is.

I agree this is child abuse. this BS that you can tell at 3 he was supposed to be a girl is BS.
even the Child Psychology board disagrees with this.

This is in Canada though so who knows what their laws are.

She evidently wanted a daughter and didn't get one so now she is going to force her son to be a girl.
that is child abuse if I ever saw.

Yeah the reasoning is not good but I do not see much different when families sign their kid up for soccer or football or whatever it is usually for a similar reason, just reinforcing gender stereotyping. Parents sign their sons up for soccer or daughters for ballet whether they like it or not all the time.

True to make them a soccer player or dancer ....not to make them a girl

Mikhail Baryshnikov. That's all I have to say. Men dance ballet also.

Would u sign your girl up for boxing just to make her more mannish?

No, but I wouldn't do that to my sons either.

However, if I felt my daughter was getting too caught up in the whole "I'm a princess" theme I may very likely take her camping and teach her how to shoot a sling shot. Doesn't mean she can't do the princess thing, but I would want to show her she can have fun doing things that aren't traditionally "girly".

Yes, some guys do girly things. So what? If some guys didn't do girlish things we wouldn't have slangs such as girly boy.

Yes, now we have girls invading men only college leagues because of attitudes like yours.

It's girly, period. Just because football players do it doesn't change that.

It's not girly. There are male roles in ballet, and they are danced by men. Just because you think something is girly doesn't make it so.

So what if there is male roles in ballet? All that means is that the activity accepts men. Just because an activity accepts men doesn't mean it isn't girly.

Yes, because of feminists and their desire to make women more manly and men more girly. Listing women that do manly things doesn't prove anything you know.

It does prove that your gender roles are bull****. As a "libertarian" you should think that people are free to choose their own life.

No, it doesn't. Why would people that wish to do girly things mean anything to what I'm saying at all? Why do you think gender roles need enforced? Maybe because people break them. Duh.

We get it, you're a Republican with outdated gender roles. People used to think that being Secretary of State was "manly." Tell that to Condi Rice.

Gender roles don't need to be enforced. People can decide about how to live their own lives.

There are man who do ballet, but it's ridiculous to say "there's nothing girly about the ballet". It's incredibly girly.

It's not girly at all. It's very athletic actually.
