The Democrats could have easily won in 2016 had their own voters not shown apathy to their candidate. The Democrats have a larger base than the Republicans, hence how Obama won in 2012 despite losing independent voters.
Now name me a recent Republican presidential candidate who won without winning independents. I'm all ears.
Listen to this: Republicans own 2/3 of governorships. Republicans own 2/3 of state legislatures. This all happened because voters voted for - drum roll please ............................Republicans! Obama won the battle but lost the war. It is due to him that Democrats have had steep losses for six years. The Democratic party doesn't even know who they are anymore with Bernie's and Warren's socialists fighting it out with the moderates. The dust hasn't cleared yet and there is no evidence that the party will be in one piece after the dust does settle.
