Major League Baseball 2017

Dodgers blew last year by not throwing Kershaw 1, 4, 7 against Cubs as they did 1, 4 versus the Nats ...

He's actually wrong. Dodgers will now throw Darvish instead of Kenta Maeda twice.

They started a 20-year old kid last year and now can pitch Hill or Wood twice.

The Cubs are not in the Dodgers league.... 5-1 imo.....

As I said, easier matchup for Dodgers, though Cubs do the little things to win, like throw out Turner at the plate. Cub starters are spent and disorganized.

How ironic it would be to see Lackey pitch well against Kershaw, in 2 days.

Kershaw 1, 4, 7; Darvish 2, 5; Hill/Wood to piggyback in 3, 6 with Maeda to boot is how I would go; Cubs are better against lefties

Dodgers are good enough they don't need to start Kershaw 3 times.

I think this is where Yu Darvish will shine.

Darvish is one of the best pitchers in baseball.

Which is the exact thing I said in the post you quoted about Darvish going twice, though I'd like it to be 2, 5 to get rest and win the WS for the NL.

Though 4 starters won it for the Cubs, a team of attrition, with the Nats wasting ROark today after he beat the Cubs this year. And very questionable roster and bench/non bench moves by Nats.

Imagine if Eaton hadn't been lost for the season; we'd have never heard of Michael A; with Werth history now ...

But the Cubs got to Kershaw in the end just like they did Kluber and Miller in the WS.

Do the Cubs seriously think they can beat the Dodgers?

Sure last year they won, but the Dodgers started Kenta Maeda twice and a 20-year old kid last year.

Game 1: Kershaw v Lester
Game 2: Hill v Quintana
Game 3: Darvish v Hendricks
Game 4: Wood v Arrieta
Game 5: Kershaw v Lester
Game 6: Hill v Quintana
Game 7: Darvish v Hendricks

Cubs got to Kershaw in the end last year; Darvish has been up and down from what I've heard. Rich Hill was decent but God knows how much he's got left in the tank. We'll see if Wood can keep pitching at a level a half run lower than his career ERA.

Cubs starters aren't nearly as good this year as last. Davis is probably out both games in LA.

Overall hitting is down. Losing Fowler really hurt them the first half. They really don't have a true lead off.

Can Darvish and Maeda match Strasburg and the first game Scherzer pitched in ?

The good guys win.

Dusty will get fired.

Dusty is a decent manager.

Nationals should stay the course. They have Eaton coming back next year and Robles could be a sleeper. I might trade Gio Gonzalez for more depth.

Yep, amazing how "unlikeable" the Cubs become when they are actually good and a serious threat. Not to mention, of course, winning the World Series last year.

When winning turns the lovable Cubbies into a team favored by Yuppies...

The Nationals could have beaten the Dodgers though, right?

Fun night to be a sports fan. Both games were very good game, again I liked listening to Romo. He's very good, and Ron Darling is maybe the best color commentator in the MLB. He's great doing Met games, he's better doing nationally televised games.

Anyway that was an interesting 1/2 inning. A pass ball on a 3rd strike, catcher's interference, hits, and a walk. Except for an error I think that is all the ways a batter can reach base? Yes? There was an error in the inning, but that was on Wieters throw on the 3rd strike pass ball, so the batter was already 'reaching 1st base'. Strangest 1/2 inning I can remember.

But anyway it is going to be interesting what, if anything the Nats do this off-season. They got as big payroll but they can never get over the hump.

The manager cant either. I expect he is the first to go.

Manager is usually the 1st to go, but with the Nats it doesn't seem like it matters who the manager is. IDK, it will be interesting to see what they do, if anything. With Harper signed through next year maybe they keep it together for 1 more year. But if they fall short again next year then they tear it down and go with their kids. They do have some good young talent on their team.

They score 8 runs in a game 5 deciding game, with that pitching staff? You got to win that game.

It was a disappointing loss, but they fought to the end. The irony is that a team built on a foundation of starting pitchers was let down by their third starter and their ace (on short rest).

Next year I expect we may see even more investment in starting pitching, because that's what the Nats do. Jason Werth will be gone and Adam Eaton will return from injury. Michael A. Taylor has become a bona fide major leaguer, as have Wilmer Difo and Brian Goodwin. It will be interesting to see what they do with Victor Robles, who has an unlimited ceiling but is only 20 years old.

Harper, Zimmerman, Murphy, Turner and Rendon will all be back. Weiters has an option but I expect he will stay.

IMO they should invest in their bullpen. That's been a weak spot all year. If they had a better pen maybe they wouldn't have had to go to 1 of their starters who only had 2 days rest.

After acquiring Kintzler, Madsen and Doolittle the bullpen was actually a strength.

Talent and experience won out in the end, as usual.

No, I don't think they can. Especially since Maeda could do nothing of the sort last year.

Hitting was down because Strasburg struck out a **** ton of people in that series. That threw off the numbers some.

Keep in mind that even with the hitting being down we did pound Scherzer for four runs last night.

Here's a great analysis:
Max Scherzer's unbelievable, impossible, unprecedented loss
Max Scherzer didn't deserve the loss. This is often true of pitchers who get the loss, but this one goes in the Didn't Deserve The Loss Hall of Fame. I mean, mathematically speaking, he really didn't deserve the loss.

Just look at this:

After entering in the fifth and getting the first two batters he faced easily -- Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo, the Cubs' two best hitters -- Scherzer and the Washington Nationals' chances of winning were 71.5 percent, when:

Willson Contreras hits a ground ball toward shortstop.

Most likely scenario: Contreras grounds out. Just 25 percent of all ground balls Contreras has hit in his career have gone for hits. And, according to Statcast, only 15 percent of ground balls hit that hard were hits this year.

...continued in the link.

Do you think they will sign or trade for a starter?

And by the millions of people across the country who have been waiting decades for them to put it all together.....

The Cubs are one of the most generally favorably regarded teams in the country.

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/america-has-spoken-the-yankees-are-the-worst/

Baseball needs a Yankees Dodgers ws. Baseball has a marketable star in Aaron Judge. Not since Mark McGwire has baseball has a star America can rally around.

Baseball works best when the major market teams are winning. The Dodgers and Yankees are the two most popular baseball teams and this type of rivalry can reinvigorate baseball's popularity.

Judge is everything baseball needs - he is humble, well-spoken and bi-racial.

The majority of people want to see Kershaw v Judge.... Tanaka v Darvish.... Ratings would be huuuuuuge!
