Major League Baseball 2017

Sports in Texas right now is secondary, but this has to light up the irony meter. On Friday the Met's Matt Harvey is coming off the DL to pitch against the Houston Astros.

Last night Jason Werth returned from the DL with a home run. Max Scherzer returned for his 13th win. Trea Turner returns tonight. Nats are putting the band back together.

The Astros will probably continue to play in Tampa Bay and host your Mets this weekend.

They are hosting Texas tonight in Tampa Bay, since the two Texas teams were unable to work out an agreeable schedule to play tonight in Texas and then later in Houston, as Texas wanted all 6 games, etc, etc ...

Dodgers in a 3 game slump. 3 all stars returning from the DL in the next 5 days. Gians and Padres already eliminated. I think the magic number is 15.

The Dbacks are making it close. They're only 18 games out.

(Hahahahahahahahahaha)

Agreed. But even though the Mets are awful this year IMO the games would draw better crowds if they played the games in NY. But IDK if the bigger crowds in NY would offset the extra money it would cost for the Astros traveling to NY, etc. So they'll probably just play the 3 games in Tampa.

Pretty classless on the Rangers part.

I'll be at Milwaukee hosting the Nats 8/31, 9/1, 9/2---kind of a trip of a lifetime now that I'm behaving as a retired person should.

I'm expecting the Brewers to do it right when it comes to Houston aid. I believe this is still Bud Selig's daughter's team ...

I'm reading now the astro/mets series will be played in Houston. Starting Saturday with a double header. I am SPEECHLESS! Seems like everone is more worried about what's going on in Texas than the Astros and Rangers.

The best player no one talks about.

The Washington Nationals are trying to send a message, and they barely try to disguise the code. In fact, they often wear it on their chests.
Michael A. Taylor wore a T-shirt under his Washington Nationals uniform Sunday that said, “Anthony Is My Favorite Player,” with a big picture of third baseman Anthony Rendon’s face in the middle. Why? “He’s everybody’s favorite player, isn’t he?” Taylor said, straight-faced but with a sly smile.
Wake up and watch Anthony Rendon. That’s what the T-shirt really means. There’s no better player on the Nats, not Max Scherzer or Bryce Harper, and there may be no better player in the National League this year, not Paul Goldschmidt or Kris Bryant, not Anthony Rizzo, Joey Votto or Buster Posey. . . .
Rendon is indeed a fine player, and perhaps the key position player in the lineup this year, and that is a line up that has Murphy and Harper!

Hyun-Jin Ryu throws against Ray tonight. Ryu has pitched well the last six or seven games, but Ray is a fine pitcher. Bellinger and Seagar are available for pinch hitting, and Kershaw starts tomorrow night. Andre Ethier should be activated with the club on Saturday. Alex Wood and Brandon McCarthy are on rehab assignments.

The Dodgers have a wealth of talent, and perhaps one of the best two or three utility player dominant teams in all of baseball.

Just saw defensive replacement Broxton save a game for Milwaukee at home v. the Cards on local TV up here.

Kind of feel guilty with the flooding catastrophe but will definitely donate at Miller Park the next 3 nights with the Nats/Brewers.

Couldn't have asked for more with Gio, Tanner and Max the next 3 nights. Great to hear all of the people donating to flood victims. My thoughts are with them ...

the mayor requested the team owner host the games and try to return the city to more routine activities
to his credit, the team owner is going to issue gratis game tickets to first responders

I understand that line of thought, but I strongly disagree with it. The city's resources needs to be used to help people and get the city back to at least semi-functioning state. For the near future Sports should be put faaaar in the backseat.

I'm sure the police, etc. have much better things to do than to patrol a baseball stadium and the surrounding areas for 8-10 hours on Saturday.

i worked 12+ hour days 7 days a week for months before getting a day off following the northridge quake
that was a very welcome break
suspect the first responders in houston might enjoy it as much

Yes, again I agree. But in 2-3 weeks after the floods. Not 2-3 days. The water is still rising in some places. No?

then you don't believe the first responders deserve a break?

I think we're talking pass either other now. I didn't say that. I said give things 2-3 weeks. Even you said after the quake you didn't get a break for MONTHS. I'm saying give it 2-3 WEEKS before sports start up again in the Houston area.

I don't know how much clearer I can be.

so, you are for giving first responders a break - just not soon

I grew up in Northridge and my parents were there for the Quake. I thank you for your help. But lets make this thread about baseball and specifically how awesome the dodgers are.

They just lost 5 in a row. A little problem in Dodger Land? ;)

I wouldn't go that far. They were so hot for awhile it was ridiculous. They couldn't go like that all year. Now? Water finds it level.

How bad would it be if the Dodgers get eliminated in their first playoff series this year? Would that be the biggest choke of all time? I can't think of a bigger choke.

No love lost for the Dodgers, but the Phillies' collapse in 1964 remains the biggest choke.
Six and a half game lead with 12 games left in the season.
The Phils proceeded to lose 10 games in a row and lose the pennant.
