Major League Baseball 2017

In LA its already a must. Anything else would be a disappointment and cause much gnashing of teeth and soul searching and "realignment of organizational priorities" etc. etc.

But the post season can be a crap shoot. One bad outing, a couple players in a slump at the wrong time and it can get all ****ed up.

MLB swears the ball isn't juiced. Just sayin.

But yeah, the Dodgers can hit and are good. They're playing out of their minds right now.

If they keep this up a WS win is a must.

They also swear the speed gun isn't juiced .

I'll be on the road the next 4 hours listening to MLB on XMS. Cubs THOUGHT this Nats series would be easy against the Nats' 4, 5, 6 starters .

I'm watching the game now on TBS. Nats are never easy, but I still don't know if they have enough bullpen to make a run at the WS.

I was a good fast ball hitter all the way from high school through college into the Army when it was still playing competitive hard ball. However . . . I don't think I could squarely hit 80% of the hard throwers in the game today. From Kershaw and Verlander all the way to the lowest relievers, there are just so many great speed ballers.

Nats BP should be fine with the three new arms added to the rest. I see the problem as the way Baker/Maddux use their starters plus the ones hurt. They should have taken Fedde out after 5 today and ROark out after 6 on Friday.

Scherzer's tight neck, Gio missing a start, who knows with Strasburg, Ross gone for the season, these Nats are the proverbial bullpen by committee; time to get on I-80 and focus; 4-2 now with the 2 home runs Fedde should not have been in for; see you for the game tonight ;

I'm not sure of the exact number, but i was listening to a Mets broadcast 2-3 weeks ago. Gary Cohen said so far this year 34(again, not sure, it was 30 something though) pitchers in the Majors have thrown 100 MPH or over..

That's really amazing. Every team wants a 100 mph pitcher nowadays. I'm just guessing but I'll bet there's another 50 pitchers who throw 98-99 mph's.

I agree with you. An 11 inning game ended up with the Dodger pitchers striking out 24 (!) batters and striking out 13 or 14 times themselves.

In 1988 the Mets beat the dodgers 10 out of 11 games. But the dodgers beat the Mets in the playyoffs.

In 2015 the Dodgers won the regular season series, but the Mets beat the Dodgers in the playoffs.

Quite a history these 2 teams have. Obviously this year there's not going to be any 'history' or surprises because the Mets aren't making the playoffs. The beating the Mets took at the hands of the dodgers was embarrassing. It could be historic. lol

Don Baylor gone at 68 after a 14-year battle with multiple myeloma.

Darren Daulton gone at 55 after a 4-year battle with brain cancer.

Rest in peace you wonderful men .

[h=1]ANOTHER MVP IN THE CROSSHAIRS?[/h]On Monday, Bryce Harper became the 14th player in MLB history to hit 150 home runs before his 25th birthday. His numbers so far this season are even better than his 2015 campaign that saw him win NL MVP.

13 pitchers and only 4 bench players right now for the Nats ?

Balance will shift with upcoming returns from DL.

When I checked last night, teams were mostly running 13 pitchers in the NL and 12 in the AL. I would only carry 11 at the most for the playoffs, giving me 6 bench moves.

You're only going to start 4 at the most in the playoffs; I'm in favor of using 4/5 starters in relief in late September to get them ready to piggyback the 1/2/3 starters in the playoffs.

Remember when Kershaw started game 4 against the Nats on 3 days rest? LAD could have won against CHC if they'd have done the same against them with Kershaw in games 1/4/7. So I support Max going game 4 against the Cubs or Brewers, if they need one.

With the Cubs in a stretch against 5 straight lefties, they are stuck with too many lefties in the lineup. Four position players gives Maddon very little room to maneuver.

We grew up with 8 or 9 pitchers. I guess they'll go with 12/13 into the expanded rosters.

Huge 4-game series in MIL 8/31 to 9/3 for Nats. Nats Dugout tickets only $66. I'm looking at the 1st 3 nights; still working on accommodations; have friends all over southern WI; this is the 'kettle/moraine' area where the glaciers stopped advancing. John Muir ice age trails for hiking/cross-country skiing ;

I want to see them tie the 116 game record set by Seattle and then see the Mariners nag the wild card and meet the Dodgers in the World Series.

That 116 games record is irrelevant if you don't win the WS. The Mariners didn't even make the WS. They were beaten by a much better Yankees team.

The 1998 Yankees team was way better than the 2001 Mariners given the Yankees won more games (regular season and playoff games) than the 2001 Mariners.

You know the guy is a jackass when he attacks the TV commentator, over comments that weren't even about him. And to top it off, that TV commentator is Dennis Eckersley, one of the greatest pitchers of all time. He knows what he's talking about. David Price is a nobody compared to Eckersley. David Price is an insignificant blip on the radar who no one will remember in ten years.

People tend to remember Cy Young winners.

0 and 0 versus the AZ/COL winner in best of five.

And as I've said before, I think it's unfair that two teams from the same division play in the NLDS or ALDS.

Let the WC play the Nats; they've certainly got a better record than any team from the NL Central, which could be the criterion ...

Last place White Sox sweep the AL best record Astros. Yoan Moncada tied it with an opposite field blast in the 9th and won it in the 11th with an RBI single. Thank you Boston. See you in the playoffs in 3 years; hopefully 2 .

This was a nice moment. Stevenson started the year in AA. Called up because of the Nats' injury epidemic. His catch last night saved the game. A moment he'll remember.

Dodgers, Rockies and D-Backs look like they might all be playoff bound: 1, 2, 3. Cards are moving on up, and they have a legit shot of surpassing the Cubs and winning the Central, loser goes home judging by a quick look at the numbers. Brewers are done, fading fast. Nats are a lock.

Houston looks to be struggling, but they are safe for a playoff spot. Indians and Sox look pretty safe too. Yanks and then, Who knows? round out the post season outlook.

Dodgers are sure looking like the '27 Yankees though. Damn! 81 wins with about 50 games to go. Quite impressive.

With the Dodgers, you get what you pay for.

They have $50MM more in payroll than the next team, and 100MM more than the average team.
