Why is Trump so hated?

Imagine you went to a charity event for military veterans. You were moved to contribute some of your hard-earned money to go to their care.

Then you learned that the money never went to the veterans. Instead, the fabulously rich Donald Trump took your money out of his charity, the Trump Foundation, and used it for things like paying off personal loans, contribute to his campaign, and even to purchase portraits (of himself, of course) to hang in his hotels?

How would that make you feel about Trump?

That happened. In November, 2019, Trump was ordered to pay a $2 million settlement for misusing the foundation for his business and political purposes.

Due to his criminal behavior, if Trump ever joins a charity board — or starts a new charity of his own — the charity must fill a majority of board seats with people who have no relationship to Trump. It also must hire a qualified attorney, submit to audits and agree never to pay Trump or his company for any services. Because President Trump has proved that he can't be trusted with other people's money.

His children, who were officers of the foundation, had to go to mandatory training on how not to be a corrupt lying thief like their dad.

Donald Trump. The best the Republican Party has to offer.

....and he never will be; that chaps his ass........

No it doesn't. He doesn't need the Big Club. But he sure is a big danger to the Big Club.

U say trump was ordered to...blah blah...in 2019

But u fail to mention when he did that..

If it happened in the last decade.....

Wow someone beat me on your comment sig :p. Most media companies should have stopped going to trump’s town halls but hey its profitable.

Who's sig am I on?

Thanks for the reply. If you feel the MSM is biased, where do you turn to find unbiased reporting?

The FBI launched an investigation into the Trump campaign when they learned of Trump campaign member George Papadopoulos's early assertions of Russians having damaging material on Donald Trump's rival candidate Hillary Clinton. On May 6, 2016 Papadopoulos met Alexander Downer, the Australian High Commissioner to Britain in a London bar, and told him about the Clinton emails over drinks. After WikiLeaks released hacked Democratic National Committee (DNC) emails on July 22, the Australian government on July 26 advised American authorities of the encounter between Downer and Papadopoulos, which spurred the FBI into launching the Crossfire Hurricane investigation on July 31.

Sounds entirely reasonable.

Regarding voting, I'm aware of how representative democracy works. I was referring to the Republican Party's voter suppression efforts. There's also Gerrymandering, which both sides have engaged in--although the GOP took it to another level after 2010.

Sullivan is trying to deal with the unprecedented attempt by the politically compromised Trump DOJ to withdraw charges on a defendant who had already pleaded guilty. None of the career prosecuting attorneys agreed to sign the motion to dismiss, and one quit the case rather than participate in this latest example of Republican contempt for independent justice. The only person who would sign the motion was the Trump-appointed flunky. Some months earlier, four career PA's quit the Roger Stone case rather than sign on to Barr's decision to ask for a reduced sentence for Stone.

Getting news is a tedious task TBH. I usually flip back and forth between MSNBC and Fox for the Dem/r Repubs talking points. Print media is just as biased. I go between WaPo and Washington Times. Talk radio, here in B-more, I go between Larry Young and The Coach on WOLB, Derek Hunter on WCBM and Clarence Mitchell the 4th (C4). C4 is prolly the most even handed and fair. I have great respect for him as he comes from a historic family that has fought the good fight here. I also listen to C-SPAN radio. They have guests and subjects from both sides of the aisle. I scour the internet, and if I see several news outlets reporting the same thing, it tends to be pretty accurate. BBC tends to have pretty accurate reporting as well. I'm pretty skeptical about the whole Russia investigation. The way Comey lied to the FISA court, the altered document that stated the CIA did not know Carter page, when he was helping them. The FBI changed it from "Carter Page is known by the CIA" to "Carter Page is NOT known by the CIA", and his actions in Russia. And Papadopolus seems to have been set up by Downer. I think we will know a lot more after Durham completes his investigation. If Trump conspired with the Russians to win the election, or any other reason, I would be calling for his head, right along side you. But the FBI being weaponized by political operatives is disturbing to me. The IG report on the Mueller investigation, with 17 "mistakes" is fishy as well. All 17 mistakes, just happened to go against Trump, doesn't pass the smell test. Don't get me wrong, Trump isn't a saint, far from it. One administration spying on another should scare us all. I didn't like it when the Nixon administration did it, and I don't like it now. Sorry I was so long winded.:peace

If the media was hatefully obsessed w you

And couldn't say a thing nice about u

U would b hated also

All viewers would think...after 24/7 negative coverage of virtually all u do

"uck....major scumbag..

Even someone crippled w dementia who sold out his high government office is better than that dirtbag"

I think there comes a time when we have to admit
It isn't called fake news por nada

The man just tweeted about shooting rioters in the street. We're a bit past blaming the media for everything that comes out of his mouth.

No they should be protesting peacefully I get it. But the president's job should not be to threaten aggrieved protesters with violence. Biden contrasted nicely by simply calling for calm, which is what anyone who fancies himself a leader would say. Trump instead, fans the flames and calls them 'thugs' which we all know is dog-whistle for the N-word.

And that's just one of the hateful things he said this week: he called a TV host a murderer, a political opponent a 'skank' and on it goes. It's hard to throw your hands up and scream at the sky, "Oh why oh why do they hate him so?" but he keeps saying mean things - and that's just what he says. As I said in another thread if he was your neighbor you'd probably avoid him; if he was a coworker you'd think he was the office d!ck.

But in a president that's apparently what a large chunk of the population want - someone to be a loudmouth and a tough guy. Fine, but let's not act so surprised when he rubs people up the wrong way.

So u won't tell us what yr it was...cdv been 20 yrs ago which wd still b concerning but he hasn't done anything too wild and crazy since elected so....

Yeah, Trump took funds out of his charity for his presidential election campaign 20 years ago. Right.

This isn't the main reason Trump is hated by most people, but it's right up there for me:

Over Veterans’ Protests, Trump Vetoes Measure to Block Student Loan Rules
President Trump sided with Education Secretary Betsy DeVos over veterans’ groups, vetoing a measure that would have blocked new regulations that tighten access to student loan forgiveness.

WASHINGTON — President Trump vetoed a bipartisan resolution on Friday to overturn new regulations that significantly tighten access to federal student loan forgiveness, siding with Education Secretary Betsy DeVos over veterans’ organizations that say her rules will harm veterans bilked by unscrupulous for-profit colleges.

The resolution put Mr. Trump in a difficult political position. The veto saves Ms. DeVos from an embarrassing rebuke by her boss, but it places the president at odds with dozens of veterans’ groups that helped persuade 10 Republican senators to vote to overturn a major domestic policy of the Trump administration. Veterans groups said the rule failed to protect military service members who have long been the targets of predatory tactics by colleges because of their lucrative G.I. benefits.

Frankly, liberal or conservative, it is not terribly fruitful to watch daily news- which is about entertainment not information. The term "fake news" has been badly misused but it is true that the dailies, including N.P.R., obsess about Trump and give little time to many important topics or contrary opinions. I.M.O., a person gains more insight by reading/ watching/ listening to in-depth articles and thinkers. If you are really interested in thoughtful commentary I recommend podcasts- "Left, Right and Center", "Making Sense" -Sam Harris with guests, including David Frum, Yuval Harari. There are others.

Podcaster Malcolm Gladwell said, "Change your mind about something every week" and "I am amazed how often people change their opinion from an initial response after reading and reflecting". I can say that I have changed my mind about Trump. I thought he might be an O.K. POTUS when he was first elected. Not now. I do wish the media would cease covering his every fart, though.

People critical of Trump's decisions only speak in a very sketchy way about said decisions

He knows a whole lot more than any commentator..has many expert advisers

We cannot make up our minds resolutely on those decisions simply by reading some talking heads viewpoint

Especially knowing how entrenched the political bias

Unless a person is an authority of U.S. history, the constitution, & international and domestic law, then it is incumbent upon a well-informed citizen to consult better informed individuals of differing viewpoints. I find the most beneficial way to gather information is to read/listen to people like David Frum and David Brooks ( Republicans!), "Left, Right and Center" (3 different takes on any given topic), Sam Harris and other deep thinking brilliant people.

You are obviously biased in favor of giving Trump a BIG benefit of a doubt. It is well known that he surrounds himself with YES men and cannot tolerate expert opinion if it contradicts his "gut". He makes no bones about it! You are mis- informed if you think he "has many expert advisers" that he listens to!

He listens to them but if u were Pres and just knew some decision was disastrous

And yet advisers disagree

You also would likely trust your instincts

So quit acting like Trump is some strange, exotic creature u cannot begin to understand.

It is an act, I'm sure

I can only speak for myself. During the 2016 Republican primary I wanted Trump to be nominated by the Republicans. The reason was not because I though it would be easy for the Democrat candidate to defeat him. The reason was that he seemed to be a different kind of Republican, one who cared about those left behind by economic changes. He was once described as "a third party candidate running as a Republican." Then as soon as he was inaugurated he cut taxes for the rich.

In other words, Trump was following the Reagan playbook. Like Reagan he appealed to nostalgia for the 1950's, when the top tax rate was usually 91%, and when one third of the work force belonged to labor unions. Then he tried to restore as much as he could of the economic status quo of the 1920's, when the top tax rate declined to 25%, and labor unions were weak.

It was only after Trump became president that I learned how dishonest, vulgar, inarticulate, lacking in gravitas, and unpresidential Trump is. I think he is intellectually, psychologically, and morally unsuited for his position.

The main reasons Trump is hated with approximate percentages:
1. Trump is not a likable guy. (10%)
2. Trump defeated Hillary. (10%)
3. Trump is with the other tribe. (50%)
4. The internet fosters hate. (30%)
