[Live] 2020 Dem NV Primary Debate Live Thread!

Less than 6 million tuned in the NV debates, less than 3.2 mil stayed tuned in for more than 20 minutes. Less than 1 mil stayed tuned in for the entire show. The first debate scored more than 9 mil initial unique viewers. More people watched repeats of Married With Children.

Meanwhile, Trump's post impeachment numbers in all polls keep growing.

It was a terrible response by Sanders who said in no uncertain terms that the DNC should not follow the very rules that he pushed for.

I don't understand. Bernie said he hopes the person with the most delegates/popular votes is picked. Why is this outside of the rules? It's PERFECTLY inside the rules and is actually what the party has ALWAYS done except in 1968 when the incumbent dropped out in the middle of the primaries, his veep picked it up but didn't participate in any primaries therefore had no popular votes, and the other major candidate got assassinated.

Other than that ALWAYS the party asked the delegates and superdelegates to rally behind the candidate that had earned the most delegates. Nothing that Bernie asked for is against the rules.

Well its not "free" to all, but Free college to all students is a fantasy as is forgiving all of the college loan debt, another fantasy. Wining on Medicare for all as a flip of the entire system is a fantasy. A Climate Change platform plank that takes on Fossil Fuels and thus carbon is correct. Vowing to take down all nuke plants and never build another is laughably absurd. Nuclear power is literally 100's of times safer than fossil fuels and we cannot all run around blowing into plastic pinwheels to generate power.

It's education for those who qualify that doesn't leave them in debt, and will encourage people to take on heavier subjects that need more education, such as being a doctor. That would help reduce the physician shortage we have.

Well it wasn't a fiction piece, it was an essay he did about how antiquated gender roles are. But that wasn't what Linc said, he plainly said "rape" without any other context.

You're right, I misremembered it as fiction overall. The 'fiction' was the two characters he made up for the piece who fantasized about rape. But it actually makes some good points; Bernie feels it was a mistake to put the parts about rape fantasy to make the points.

His spokeperson said, "It was intended to attack gender stereotypes of the '70s, but it looks as stupid today as it was then."

A writer in National review, who opposes Bernie, accurately describes the attempts to hype the article:

"Nobody honestly believes that Bernie Sanders is a sexual pervert or that he is a misogynist or that he intends to do women any harm. Nobody suspects that he harbors a secret desire to pass intrusive legislation or to cut gang rapists a break. Really, there is only one reason that anyone would make hay of this story, and that is to damage the man politically."

If hyping that article about gender stereotypes from 1972 is the best they can do for an attack, that says more good about Bernie.

Thank you for admitting your selfishness. Was that so hard?

I want to see an America that doesn't let it's people die to boost the bottom line of some health care executive. That isn't selfish. Wanting to be in charge for no other reason than to beat the GOP? That's selfish. You're such a joke.

You haven't the slightest clue what morals are. Morals to you are nothing more than, "If I don't get MY WAY, I'm going to throw a temper tantrum and help give America four more years of Trump."

What do you think politics are? It is about gathering and the use of power. The GOP, as awful as they are, the GOP understand this and do everything to obtain power to use it. Meanwhile, the Democrats do nothing.

Want to have Trump out of office? Support the leading candidate with the most devoted base. The GOP did this in 2016 and they won.

This might be the one saving grace of the electoral college, because Washington state is going blue anyway.

I've told you directly that I'm registered to vote in Florida. I already sent in my early voting ballot for Bernie.

He believes that at a brokered convention, the candidate who gets the most pledged delegates should automatically get the nomination.

Clearly he does not believe in the rules of the very nomination process that he chose to participate in. And he helped write those rules!

I want to see an America that doesn't let it's people die to boost the bottom line of some health care executive. That isn't selfish.

Bernie-or-bust-ism is absolutely selfish. It is pure childish behavior. "I WANT BERNIE, NOW!!!" followed by a long, ear-piercing cry.

Get real, CMP. We can see right through that childish game. :)

Yes, Bernie wants to shut those we have down and never build another.

You said "take down," not "shut down." "Take down" involves getting out a bunch of bulldozers. You do realize how problematic that would be for a nuclear reactor, right?

This the wrong way of looking at things.

Sanders could lead on a first ballot vote, but since he might lack a majority, there will be a second vote. Upon the second vote, delegates will be released and allowed to vote for another candidate.

This means that a second tier moderate could drop out and publicly request their delegates support another candidate closer to Sanders margin, and then that person could then get a majority on the second vote and become the nominee.

Candidate drop out and do this all the time, but it usually doesn't become an issue.

Bernie-or-bust-ism is absolutely selfish. It is pure childish behavior. "I WANT BERNIE, NOW!!!" followed by a long, ear-piercing cry.

As opposed to your "anyone but Bernie" screeching while then supporting a political party that is no better than the Republicans. Your undeserved condescension is absolutely cringe.

That's the sort of stuff that could hurt Sanders big with suburban women. They won't vote for Trump, but they'll stay home.

You're nuts. But no doubt, they'll see that as the same as the admitted genital grabber who actually has dozens of women accusing him of sexual misconduct, who actually had multiple sex industry affairs shortly after his wife gave birth and illegally paid hush money to mislead the voters.

He platform plank is forgiving all college student loan debt. Until he gets more specific in public it is what it is.

As for free college...same story. the candidate himself needs to be more specific about his intentions with regard to free college. I have always suspected that it would be impractical to offer "free college" to all but without specificity to the actual details its all fantasy to me. Bernie has been singing his free college song for how long now and he still really does not have any details for how he wants to do it? Doesn't fly.

Medicare for all....Liz is right and Bernie is wrong.

Bernie' Climate Change plank....laughable....almost as bad has Hilary telling energy industry execs she was going to kill of coal completely during her 2016 campaign.

You mean the essay authored nearly 50 years ago that was actually a progressive piece addressing the tensions underlying changing and traditional gender norms ( The Bernie Sanders 'Rape Fantasy' Essay, Explained : It's All Politics : NPR )? Hamfisted writing from a then 30 or so year old Bernie isn't going to be anywhere close to devastating.

1988 with Bernie in the Soviet Union — tax hikes on the middle class right now — every moderate Senate, House, Governor, and State Legislative candidate running from socialist sanders — sanders praised communist Cuba and the Soviet Union in the 1980s — your turn

As opposed to your "anyone but Bernie" screeching while then supporting a political party that is no better than the Republicans. Your undeserved condescension is absolutely cringe.

It's absolutely much better than Republicans, as Bernie says. But that doesn't mean that it doesn't have a lot bad, which is why Bernie is leading a war to take it for the people.

Cool, but not everyone can be Tom Sawyer. That fence will still need to be painted. No reason that the painters should starve or die from treatable conditions.

The fallacy in your comment is that YES, here in America, EVERYONE can be Tom Sawyer.

Here we value equal opportunity over equal outcome.

Ok...so Im a conservative and you can take this for what its worth but after this debate...

Amy I think is just thinking these people are all nuts enough they will at some point self destruct and she will be the only real 'democrat' choice available.
Pete is a smooth talker...and he is a complete empty suit.
Biden...done...Biden comes across as desperately irrelevant.
Warren is a pandering jackwagon. Everything she says is a transparent appeal to minorities.
Bloomberg should be done. He wont be but after that massacre...he should be. This is just the beginning. They are going to pound him on the womens issues. He should cut his losses.
Bernie should be the democrat nominee. He sometimes comes across as your crazy uncle, his ideas are going to bankrupt the country if they ever get implemented but he is the most directly honest candidate and has stayed true to his socialist roots and has the most solid base in the party. With the right running mate...I still think Stacey Abrams...he would be a real threat to beat Trump. Plus...if it takes a dirty trick campaign by the DNC to beat him at the convention they will lose the support of his voters. Not twice in a row.

Last...if I was that coalition of candidates I would demand a debate moderator panel that focused on issues and stopped focusing on the personal attacks. They arent doing themselves any favors.

The fallacy in your comment is that YES, here in America, EVERYONE can be Tom Sawyer.

Using your analogy, if everyone is a Tom Sawyer, who ends up painting the fence?

The debate tonight reminds me of the Republican primary in 2016.

Many of you seem to have forgotten that spectacle. I realize as a candidate you want to get the voter's vote but it always becomes dog eat dog.

At least no one was comparing hand size.

You said "take down," not "shut down." "Take down" involves getting out a bunch of bulldozers. You do realize how problematic that would be for a nuclear reactor, right?

Effectively, Bernie wants to "take down" nuclear as an energy source and that is LAUGHABLY absurd given the necessity of drawing down on the amount of carbon we spew into the atmosphere via Fossil Fuels. You have to seal nuclear power plants when you shut them down. You can't bulldoze them. That is true.

As opposed to your "anyone but Bernie" screeching while then supporting a political party that is no better than the Republicans. Your undeserved condescension is absolutely cringe.

There it is! The deflection onto something I never said!

This is what you do, CMP. You won't take responsibility for anything you say or do, and instead you point the fingers at someone else.

Your Bernie-or-bust-ism is pure childishness. And if it multiplies too much, Trump will win another election. Maybe that's what you want. Hard to tell with you.

If we're willing to back Sanders, they ought to be willing to back another candidate that obtains a majority.

Our of curiosity, I looked up Bloombergs net wealth increase over the last 10 years. He makes about $2 billion a year. That’s roughly $5MM per day, every day.

That means in the two hours he was on the debate stage, he made about $500k, which is the annual income one would need to get into the top 1%.

Wow.
