Lisa Page will not appear for Capitol Hill interview despite subpoena, attorney says

Page, Strzok, Comey, McCabe, Lynch, Yates, the Ohr's, and a slew of others that go beyond the scope of the DOJ/FBI in the Obama administration are currently under investigation for the handling of the counterintelligence investigation opened up by the FBI on the Trump campaign and transition team. Horowitz, IG for the FBI/DOJ is working with U.S. Atty John Huber. Huber has the same powers as Robert Mueller. He can subpoena anyone whether still currently working for the government or since have been fired, retired or resigned. The investigation includes FISA abuse, abuse of unmaskings, leaks of classified material. There have been no leaks coming out of this investigation. The only thing known is there have been at least 3 sealed indictments. Because many of the same players were involved in the Clinton investigation and the Trump investigation at the same time, there is no way of knowing if these indictments pertain to Clinton or Trump investigations.

The reason Page is avoiding giving her deposition is because she is still under investigation because she worked under McCabe and was part of the Clinton, Trump investigations and for months part of Mueller's team. She risks perjury charges.

Strzok will be before Congress in about an hour. The questions he will be given will be very pointed because Congress already knows the answers to them. It was reported last night that in the last 4 days they received more documents including more emails and texts that were described as being very troubling.

You're splitting hairs and you know it.
No I'm not. There's a big difference. Consult a dictionary if you'd like to understand.

That's not relevant in the least
Of course it is. Pretending it's not is nonsense.

to the fact that she could have (and should have) shown up for her scheduled interview.
Unprepared, with a body ready to vilify her and possibly charge her with more serious crimes. If the committee was honest and trustworthy, your claim might have more merit, but given the fact they clearly do not, then you have no leg to stand on.

That was her choice, and it was an idiotic one.
No, it was a smart one. Ignoring a subpoena, at worst, comes to a mere slap on the wrist and, quite frankly, for someone like Lisa Page, nothing will come of it. And since this testimony is CLEARLY partisan hackery, the committee will do everything they can to tarnish her reputation, spin her words and do what they can to bring charges against her.

Better for her to do what she did.
No one could "discredit" her over it had she not chosen to disregard the subpoena.
She couldn't show up and not answer questions, she would be held in contempt. It would be no better for her, but then Republicans could blast the video over the airwaves. Your position is just stupid.

Prepare? Prepare for what? Telling the truth shouldn't need preparation.

It wouldn’t if the questioners could be relied on to act in good faith.

They can’t.

In that case, Trump Jr., Jared, and the rest of the Trump crime family that met with the Russian intelligence agents in Trump Tower in 2016 should be in jail

You can't have it both ways!
As I noted before, the prosecution needs to show evidence of at least a step in furtherance of the inchoate crime. If the Trump Tower meeting were deemed the first step in furtherance of an attempted conspiracy, Mueller would need to provide evidence of the purpose of this meeting; specifically that Junior or Jared agreed to meet with the Russian lawyer for the purpose of conspiring to defeat Hillary in the election. This doesn't seem unambiguously proven based on the evidence we have; there were communications from an entertainment agent who was promoting the meeting indicating the Russians had dirt on Hillary and responses indicating that Jared or Junior would be glad to get it, this would show an interest in getting dirt on Hillary, but not an intent to provide anything in exchange.

We now know no dirt on Hillary was offered, the Russians didn't have Hillary's missing emails or those from the allegedly hacked DNC server, Jared or Junior walked out when the Russians sought lifting certain sanctions, so there evidently was no agreement. I don't see enough evidence of a conspiracy in this meeting. We don't know how this would have gone had the Russians brought copies of Hillary's emails and the DNC 'hacks', maybe then they could have bargained for their surreptitious release in exchange for lifting specific sanctions, but this isn't what happened. We haven't seen any communications from Jared or Junior (or anyone else) discussing the possibility of lifting sanctions against Russia in exchange for dirt on Hillary or its publication.

I continue to believe the "We will stop him," was the general Democrats we, not the FBI we.

Republicans have not shown any evidence whatsoever to support claims of the FBI deep state against Mr. Swampy. If such evidence exists, shouldn't it be obvious?

And you really believe that part will happen? Has it previously?
That's my hope and desire. Televise everything to provide transparency, just like the Nixon hearings. No more hiding behind closed doors, releasing political PR talking points and letting other pertinent information fall by the wayside.

I believe Americans should have transparency in government, especially criminal matters of the Presidency.

Remember, the tide change in public opinion did not occur for Nixon until the John Dean testimony, and the Congressional subpoena for the tapes and their subsequent release. If Nixon had today's GOP Congress & Fox news, he very well may have finished his Presidency. I don't say that lightly. A Dem House can help alleviate the first problem, and televised proceedings giving all networks access to them will help ameliorate the second problem.

I think today's hearing of Strzok makes it very clear the Republicans have no interest in acting in good faith.

Can Congress issue a contempt citation?

There is something called 'contempt of congress'.. but anybody with any sense has contempt of congress right now.

Oh there is plenty out there, unfortunately nothing that progressives are going to be honest about and admit....

Morning Sly....

Do you really think that if the tables were turned, and it were a Democrat President, and Republican's going after them as happened here, with text messages of the lead investigator, the man that was responsible for starting that investigation, was busted saying what a "Moron" that they thought the Democrat was, and further were holding meetings talking about "insurance policies" and "no, they won't win, we will stop them...." Would you really have the same opinion?

Hey j-mac! Hope you've been well!

I think those are two separate issues. I haven't heard ANYONE defend those Strzok's e-mails/texts as an investigator. But an investigation into them has already been done. The IG report investigated it and concluded that bias did not affect the specific actions. Strzok already testified behind closed doors to the committee. What happened yesterday wasn't about concern over texts, it was about public spectacle to undermine the Mueller investigation.

What the Republicans are doing right now is near criminal. They are deliberately withholding information from people they want to charge with crimes for answers they haven't given yet (see Strzok's testimony yesterday). They wouldn't let Strzok confer with FBI counsel, the ones who told him what he could or couldn't say. The FBI, of course, is the leading law enforcement agency in the country. They give Page only four days notice on a subpoena and did not turn over relevant documentation to her. They threaten to hold Strzok in contempt for the same thing Steve Bannon did, when they did not threaten him with contempt. They are deliberately trying to undermine a LEGITIMATE investigation in a case of potential conspiracy against the United States.

There are not even opinions, they are documented facts. Let's put it this way, j-mac...if bias in an investigation and not providing information because of ongoing investigations are so bad, then how come the Republicans are doing those very things?

This. The Lisa Page hearing would just be a replay of the Strzok hearing: republicans screaming like banshees at her, and refusing to allow her to answer any questions that wouldn’t reveal details of an ongoing investigation.
