Koppel Tells Hannity He is Bad for America

I think you know better than to say his statement was mis-characterized. He knew his followers would give him the pass you just did and CNN did at the time. But you now he was doing his best to inflame the us vs them theme he adopted for pretty much his eight years. A successful businessman, greedy, an illegal immigrant the lifeblood of a future America.

Elixabeth Warren said the exact same thing.

It was mischaracterized.

I watched that speech, and agree with Obama there.

Oh, stop it.

That would require character to be had in the fist place and he completely lacks any of it. That you feel sorry, only betrays partisanship not posting integrity.

Perhaps you don't know what "modicum" means? If you do, please show me evidence that Hannity is a bad husband or father or employer--you know, that he doesn't have a "modicum" of integrity or decency.

You need to learn to place things in context.

As someone who worked in news media for about 20 years, I'll disagree with your take that there is "no news in the United States." However, nothing worthwhile, journalism-wise, in the U.S. comes from TV.

I agree. But then you're about the only one I've met who would know that. I'm surprised someone down there even knows there other sources than journalism and blog that re-inforce the common belief

Interrupting is Hannity's MO. He is more focused on throwing off his opponents with cheap tricks than discussing the topic...because, he is not a particularly learned man. He is a disc jockey without a college education who figured out that talk radio schtick is the way to earn a living...just like Limbaugh and Beck. Its a sideshow, and the rabble that listens to him eats it up, because they lack the skills to think objectively and try to find all sides to an argument, they like to be spoon fed their daily anger.

I more refined and full explanation of the point I was making.

I have heard Limbaugh on the radio once while driving across the continent. I heard enough to know he's a bully with a microphone, and someone from the US sent me a copy of a "Being George Washington" by Glenn Beck. He can't write worth ****, repeats himself every third paragraph. I quit rather than trying to figure out what he was trying to say. I entered it in 'CBC's most horrible literature contest'

It's very hard to have respect for people who repeat what these geeks are saying.

Beck used to be a "wacky morning DJ" here in Phoenix. Its a gig. Radio folks say whatever gets them a job, talk radio, left and right is a formula: You need to be angry, if you don't know what to be angry about, listen to me, I'll tell you. You are special because you listen to me, we know what is wrong, all those other people are idiots! Come back tomorrow, because I have a show planned that will make you angry!

You nailed that one.

In fact I'm going to steal it for use here. The Conservative Party is choosing a new leader, most of them are anger mongers and the leader, a reality TV host is particularly angry.

One trick I noticed is that they raise a question like "are the Democrats spying in conservatives" and the proceed to "discuss" it as though it were not a question, but absolute.

I don't know why anyone would work at being angry. There's enough tragedy in our lives to have to go to a talking head to get more ammunition to be mad about.

Its all about emotion, making the listeners feel like they are the ones that always get screw over by "those guys on the other side". Play into emotions, whip people up into being angry about things they were never angry about, and then get them hooked on anger like heroin.

I agree.

It's the rage/anger heroin that keeps ratings up so these so-called pundits can lure people back to their programs.

It's obvious that not even these pundit's basic ideology conforms with what fundamental conservatism or liberalism are about. They're ideology is "TABLOIDISM". Telling people what incites, as you say, the most emotional reactions possible that helps these pundits pay their bills - and simultaneously make their parent companies happy.

Oh, I know all about it. I worked in the business and talk radio is huge here.

It's just that we all thought the table-pounding angry host went out of fashion about the same time as disco.

You must not forget the other side of the equation.

One, NEVER let the other side have their say.

Never go into details

and Never admit hypocrisy...as every one of these turds IS a big one.

And....constantly demonize your opponents with stereotypes, we see it here every day...."Well, those (liberals/conservatives) don't care about X they just want to destroy Y"

Repeat the stereotype as often as you can till it is just ingrained in the listener's head.

Nah that's complete bull****.

Look he was making a valuable point. Lots of people don't realize or acknowledge how hierarchical human society is. Do you know what humans accomplish in isolation, on their own? They sharpen rocks and use sticks as blunt instruments. People are ****ing stupid as individuals, but we're brilliant when we share our knowledge and resources.

A guy who builds houses; sure, in a way, he builds those houses, but in other ways, he relies on systems of measurement, language, materials science, civil engineering, etc. there is a huge amount of inter-relatedness in all great things we accomplish. Rewarding exclusively the guy who happens to be wearing the "Owner" nametag is ****ing stupid.

You could still argue that the way he steers the narrative away from reality is also bad for his own family.

Right, because career politicians have served us so well.

Well let me put it this way: I would never hire a plumber to be my dentist and and would never hire my dentist to do my plumbing. The same goes for politicians. Don't elect is crooked businessman with no experience in politics to run the country. What we now see is the result.

If you don't like your politicians vote them out of office. For God's sake don't replace them with assclowns.
