Is Trump Creating an Opening for a Republican Challenger?

Fine, you can deny the Sky is blue, but that’s not a productive discussion

No, because I'm not denying facts. I'm denying knuckle-dragging idiocy like "the left in the western world has socialist authoritarian tendencies and is working to eliminate all constitutional rights," which is so mind-bendingly stupid and false that it ripped a hole in the space-time continuum.

You see, this is you sucking down on that Trump hating media spin.

The fact is, Trump hasn't said anything bad about "Vets", "POW's" or "Gold Star families". He HAS, however, said things specifically about particular individuals...after they have attacked him.

Regarding the Republicans, they don't need to do anything. The media is doing it for them. They can keep safe and quiet without putting themselves out there against Trump, thereby keeping the anger of their base at bay.

Yes. Attacking Trump renders their service null and void because Trump is never to be contradicted. That is how a dictator rules not a President. No man is above the law or the judgments of society. As an American you should know that.

Yawn...

Don't you get tired of spouting sarcastic nonsense that nobody listens to?

Moving on...

We already know that McCain was involved in pushing the fake dossier, so I'd have to say you are already wrong.

Even if this was fantasy land and your ideas were true, it would still not be appropriate for POTUS to twitter those deplorable comments. So no, you're wrong as usual. Maybe watch some talking potato heads, they average better than your posts.

He gave it to the FBI after the election...which was the correct thing to do, the ethical thing to do. FBI can decide if it's useful or not. Covering it up, would be wrong.

As to calling it "fake dossier", that's just trump con-artist speak for "I hate the dossier, attack my peons, attack it!!".

Trump is at 93% approval rating with the shrunken GOP. The party is his, lock, stock, and barrel. It is more fully the party of Trump than it was ever the party of Reagan or Lincoln.

So no, there will be no viable challenger for 2020. And any candidate for subsequent elections thereafter will need to kiss Trump's ring when he leaves office, whether it be via defeat in 2020 or term limits in 2025.

Just calling the reality of things.

For those who live by hyperbole, yeah...you got that reality thing down pat.

Interesting.

Do you know what hyperbole is?

Doesn't appear so.

Has anyone mentioned that McCain never had this kind of support from the Left while he was still alive?
Something must be different now.
What ... could ... that ... be?

That regardless of his politics he should be respected and Trump is certainly repeatedly trying to defame him.

No we didn't agree with him politically but he was still a decent human.
Unlike that orange thing you worship.

I don't worship humans and it's not McCain's decent humanity that's responsible for his support from the Left now.

Wasn't Trump complaining about McCain's Repeal & Replace vote and his involvement with the dossier? Yes. That's politics.
Like everything else nowadays, a person has to know who said something before they can decide if they agree with what was said.
The reason for the Left's support for McCain now is the person complaining about him. That's politics too.

hyperbole

McCain deserves zero respect because of his actions throughout his political career.

OK, I get it! They won't have to literally kiss his ring!

(You must not know what "kiss his ring" means)

McCain deserves zero respect because of his actions throughout his political career.

Mycroft's display of bankrupt ethics...can't differentiate political support with respect.

No, the notion that anyone would have to go see Trump for anything after he's out of office is the hyperbole.

Well, since I never said that, I suppose you're right.

Mycroft's display of bankrupt ethics...can't differentiate political support with respect.

It's because of my ethics that I cannot respect McCain.

I don't respect anyone who uses their political position for, or in support of, unethical, illegal or politically corrupt purposes.

Anyone who refers to the dossier as fake, discredited or whatever automatically declares themselves as disingenuous, and non-credible and someone to be ignored.

Dismissed...

President Donald Trump's recent unhinged tirades against the late Senator John McCain are not sitting well with many Republicans and voters who might otherwise be Trump supporters. I wonder whether their unhappiness might be the first step toward a credible Republican challenge for the 2020 nomination? Just a thought.

Silence at army tank factory as Trump rips McCain

The president excoriates Sen. John McCain at length during a speech at a tank factory in Lima, Ohio, where the audience went silent during the attack.
Mitch McConnell distances himself »

If Trump read the room carefully, I think he'll learn that there's a limit to expressing pettiness. His attack on McCain didn't make much sense to me because he made it into a personal one instead of critiquing policy. More importantly, the differences between the two aren't relevant anymore since McCain has passed. Trump's comment about not being thanked for McCain's funeral and about not liking him were in very poor taste. Whether or not this opens the door to a Republican challenge is still doubtful and will depend on how much more Trump shoots himself in the foot.

The man is dead. How long is Trump going to rant about this stuff? He’s been doing it since Saturday. The silence in Ohio yesterday says a lot. It is time for him to move on.

So any time you do not like the actions of a politician they should be disrespected? That’s really small of you.

Obamacare and the dossier live on, McCain had a hand in those, and that's what Trump was complaining about.

I think Trump is setting people up. I think he's giving them a chance to go hog-wild crazy in defense of McCain so that when the undeniable truth is release they will be forced to eat their words.

So no, Jack Hays, I don't think he's leaving an opening of any kind.

Really? Do tell...
