Indonesian men caned for gay sex in Aceh

Two men have been caned 83 times each in the Indonesian province of Aceh after being caught having sex.
. . .

Gay sex is not illegal in most of Indonesia but it is in Aceh, the only province which exercises Islamic law.
. . .

Aceh was granted special rights to introduce its own stricter Islamic laws more than a decade ago, and has become increasingly conservative in recent years.

Strict laws against homosexuality were passed in 2014 and came into effect the following year.

And the religion of peace strikes again - literally.

Indonesia an interesting place. I lived in there for a few years. Jakarta specifically. In most of Indonesia, such as places like Jakarta and Bali, homosexuality is perfectly legal, despite being predominantly Muslim. Hell, there are even gay night clubs. But Aceh is almost like it's own country. It is very conservative.

a popular destination for gay masochists

Next thing you'll tell me is that they can't even enter the bathroom of their choice. That would be truly barbaric.

It's not conservative, it's traditional Muslim. You know, the people that the left like to claim are nice peaceful, tolerant people, just trying to live in peace with their neighbors. Well except for the beheading, caning, oppression of women, intolerance of homosexuals, etc....

Our Western societies did similar till recently, when we started a socio-legal experiment in libertarianism. So it seems to me that it is somewhat self-delusional to feel any superiority in this. After all, we kill some criminals and most of the West thinks that to be barbaric.

Sorry, I forgot I was on a political forum for a moment. I didn't mean politically conservative. I meant religiously conservative.

After all, Jakarta is overwhelmingly Muslim as well. And yet most women don't choose to even wear headscarfs. They drive and hold office and own businesses. You can go to a gay bar and buy a beer...during Ramadan. My wife was never harassed for dressing immodestly. It is no different than a predominantly Christian big city except there are mosques everywhere instead of churches.

On the other hand we also lived in Libya which, while nowhere near as bad as Saudi Arabia, was a miserable place to be for non-Muslims. Women could drive but would get harassed if not dressed modestly. You didn't dare take so much as a sip of water during the day during Ramadan in public or you would get ridiculed and harassed, even if it was obvious you were not Muslim.

Same religions. But different cultures.

There's only one religion the "liberals" will queue up to make excuses for and to deflect disingenuously on behalf of.

Theyr'e not really "liberals" at all - just people who've appropriated a pretentious title for themselves.

Man, am I glad I don't live in those parts of the world.

A female officer friend of mine got stationed at the embassy in Saudi Arabia. It is highly recommended to female diplomats that they follow clothing laws when they leave the diplomatic zone so they don't get harassed or assaulted. She actually made a niqab out of a Spongebob Squarepants bed sheet. She was so proud of it but her boss wouldn't let her wear it. :(

Islam is very conservative. Hell, Iran is like where good conservatives go when they die.

What you think as it is happening in the southern US states now and the drive to shame and embarrass even young children in public schools for the 'crime' of having noncommon sexual indications.

What is the point you are trying to make?

Spot ****ing on.

There is nothing liberal about defending and making excuses for the international hate group known as "Islam".

Well of course, conservatism, fanaticism coupled with low intellect and or education will result in such negative results. Just look at our own back yard and even posters on this board and the consistency is undeniable.

Or Christianity for that matter at least to the same degree as Islam is a so call hate group.

With large Western christian groups trying to sell the idea that the punishment for being gay should be up to the death sentence in some African nations.

You cane gay men in your backyard?

Is legally recognized marriage now a synonym for caning?

My, oh my, the speed at which language changes...
