5 grand sound about right? Yeah,.. no. It is your money though. And if you got it, spend it. 🤷‍♂️

Job at the moment; were putting the smoker in place at outdoor kitchen/pool house. Needed a hoist. 600lbs.

That brisket better give me a Meg Ryan moment.

Where's the love for a steel offset smoker box, learning to use it, and learning how to tend to the meat?

The prices I keep seeing people spending on outdoor cooking appliances is ridiculous. As long as it's "the best" I guess...

3 grand for a griddle with a shiny stainless top? I can buy 3 of those that covers your cooking area at Walmart for about 60 bucks.

Plenty of money in the outdoor appliance market.

This is what use. Big enough for parties and the food is amazing.

Under $300

What I got. Gas, smoker, charcoal, or double charcoal cooking area with grates in offset box.

The smoked ribs taste like smoked ribs! Just fall apart...

They're pricey as hell, but I find the Big Green Egg is really useful. It can stay at 200F for 24+ hours to smoke a full brisket or two and the next day you can crank it up to 600F+ and cook pizza on a stone. It rocks.

I've been avoiding it so long, but I think I've gotta' get into this game . . .

I would pay ZERO because I would smoke the meats the way the hillbillies did it.
Cut a drum in half and position it over a wood fire, bam - "cake" - done.

Someone has to pay for those steel tariffs!!

My current smoker is a tall steel cabinet that I picked up for ~$10 used a few years back. Light a fire in the bottom, then adjust the fire and the height I place stuff inside depending on the result I want. Did spend another $10 on a temp gauge that I installed in the cabinet. Been smoking the same way for ~35 years. Not as pretty as the professional units, but I can get the result I want every time with a handful of fruit tree branches or pieces from a couple of other tree types that grow on the property. I actually enjoy the 'primitiveness' of smoking this way. A bit like I like the process of making my coffee by grinding the fresh beans and setting up my stovetop Moka pot alongside a pot of heating milk each morning. We bought a cafe style 'coffee machine' years ago, but the convenience sort of ruined the experience for me. When it eventually broke, I bought a new Moka pot and a hand grinder instead of a replacement machine. Probably just me, but the more hands on type process helps build the anticipation of that beautiful result.

5 stars for pre-empting your intricate cooking techniques with politics! :cautious:

I thought this thread was about “smoothies.”

The title was cut off in the recent threads tab. I paid $8for a vanilla malt last week!

People sleep on vanilla.

I’m an ex smoker. There are few things smell wise I love more than cigarette smoke.
Then you need to be careful, I have quit many times and the last was when I cannot stand the smell on clothes or in person.

The best smoked meats I ever had came from an old refrigerator made into a smoker. But that would probably look out of place on this guy's patio setup.

I have heard the same from 20-30 year exes. It's the ashtray smell that's repulsive.

I quit for a few weeks, and got weak........... 😔

The topic is smoked brisket!:)

I bought a portable electric pellet smoker for about $250. I can fit a couple of ribs on it, which suits me.

I particularly like smoking meatloaf.

I had a bigger one you could do 6 whole chickens on that a bought for about $600. But I didn't need all that space and I had to keep it too far from the back porch.

As long as it was devoid of any modern coatings for a fridge.

It could be vintage.

He just used it as a cold smoker. Hung sausages and such, piped in the smoke. It sat out in his backyard where his neighbors could enjoy the view.

A lot smoked right is so good..

Just the other day, caught something about a smoked baked potato.

Never thought of it; but you have my attention!
