Greg Gianforte vs Rob Quist

CNN cited 7/10 votes already being cast before the event. So his win does not really reflect on republicans in general. Even if every republican voting at polls changed their vote, he still probably would have won.

Characterizing republicans in general for the result only gives ammunition and validation to deplorables.

Yeah, he would have still won. I was a bit shocked (don't know why after Trumps grabbing the ***** thing) but people I've talked to have pretty much universally poo pooed it. Anecdotal I know but still.

Of course you know where he stands politically--he ran as a republican.

We've had good Republicans, bad Democrats, and vice versa. A man failing to keep his cool for a tame question does not look good. I would not want a person like that anywhere near my party (that is, if I was a partisan sheep).

Well, when one party wants to 'fundamentally transform America' voting against that party is putting country first.

What does that even mean?

But you can stop acting so pure any time now. you aren't fooling anybody. Hillary 'Secret Server' Clinton rounded up 60 million votes from those virtuous souls you pretend inhabit the left.

FYI, I was not one of those "souls." And my statement applies as much to Clinton supporters as it does to Trump supporters.

This race was one of national importance--hence the media coverage. You may not grasp this, but there are many Americans who don't want to see Pelosi and her pick-pocket leftist allies running the congress. Did this guy behave badly? Yes. Is that reason to turn power over to the left? Don't be silly.

One Democrat =/= turning over Congress to Pelosi. Give me a break. Not that the argument even matters. It is a choice between Pelosi pick-pocketing for the benefit of her interests in the form of taxes or Ryan pick-pocketing for his interests in the form of tax cuts/benefits for the corporate elite. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

But the fact this republican won a seat by only 6 points while trump carried the state by 20 shows something is not well for republicans

Claiming that Reps are cool with what he did, and voted for him in mass anyway, only validates deplorables. It's counter-productive hackery.

Nope, can't read that into it at all as the Hillary hate was strong here. I wouldn't even necessarily say that if Gianforte had lost to Quist. Keep in mind Gianforte lost to the Democratic governor candidate last November. He increased his percentage in a statewide race during 6 months by about 10 points.

feel free to give an example of a Leftist policy that does not result in the Government receiving more power over our day to day lives.

Abortion.

In a word, YES. We are partisan because not be is to be screwed, that goes for all sides. The government has so much power, and that power is used so liberally and the sides so diametrically opposed that to not be partisan is almost akin to suicide. This is a direct result of government power and as the government gets more the more partisan things become.

No it's not. It has nothing to do with government power, it's all about you and your choices.

That's a really stupid comment. We have plenty of examples of conservatives who either claim the event never took place or who, even worse, claim the attack was well-justified. Those are genuinely condemnable and no amount of your middle ground fallacy bull****, trying to pander to both sides, can change that.

Abortion.

Nope, Leftist wanting to force people with honest Religious objections to pay for them takes the Abortion argument away from you. Using tax dollars to fund Planned Parenthood does exactly that.

Look at how weak your argument is, you are saying that women with unwanted pregnancies are the only Americans whose freedoms might be slightly increased by Leftist policies.

And don't try to start an Abortion debate with me. As a non-religious Libertarian I have no problem with early term Abortion. To defend Pro Life Conservatives, they oppose abortion because they honestly see it as murder not because they want to restrict anyones freedoms or liberties. To Pro Life Conservatives allowing an Abortionist to operate is like allowing Charles Manson or Ted Bundy to operate.

Only about 3% of Planned Parenthood's services are in abortions and the majority of their funding does not come from the government. I understand the objections, but then again, there are a lot of objections to how the government spends our taxdollars. I object to my taxdollars going towards building more weapons of war, yet they go to it anyways (far more than abortions). I suppose you prefer abortion by tomahawk missile over medical procedure?

It is interesting you do not discuss the alternative to legalized abortion, but it is no surprise because you know full well the alternative means more government intervention.

The argument is about you naming any Leftist policies that don't amount to taking the personal freedoms of Americans way, not the virtues of Planned Parenthood. All you could name was Abortion, which in reality is a fairly fringe area.

Every independent investigation and inside leaker has confirmed that pretty much all PP does are abortions. The 3% more closer represents what is not abortion related.

But even if what you say is accurate, putting any tax money toward it at all violates anyone with religious objections civil rights.

According to the US Constitution the US Govt is required to fund National Defense (tomahawk missiles). There is no Constitutional requirement for abortion, only a case law that allows it.

Oh, somebody beat me to it. Ok, then voting rights is a good one. Conservatives want it to be harder to vote via Government regulations. I believe the Patriot Act was something of a conservative movement. Also, not all "leftists" want the same policies - I'm for smaller and more efficient government.

Voter ID infringes on no ones rights or liberty. There is not one case where someone was denied their legit right to vote over ID. Just Leftist Democrats saying it could happen because Black people are to stupid to get ID. If Democrats did not benefit so much over voter Fraud they would be all for voter ID.

Yes, Bush did come up with the Patriot Act. But there is no evidence he ever used it for anything but fighting Terrorists.

The Right's objection to the PA is that eventually someone as corrupt and evil as Obama or Hillary would come to power.

Obama did use the Patriot Act against political opponents for personal political gain: Spying on Congress during the Iran nuke deal and the Trump campaign during the election.

"Smaller more efficient Government" Yes the bloated size and inefficiency of Government is a problem, but by far the most important issue is the power the Government has over our day to day lives.

The patriot act was opposed by one - Russ Feingold. A Democrat.

You are derailing your own thread. You're arguing against the government having more power and in this response you're arguing they should have more power when it comes to wiretapping, surveillance, and "stupid black people." Thank you for telling me that you are racist. You can talk to other racist people, I'm sure you can all stroke each other's... egos.

Nice try. Read the article not just the title. The examples in your source voted.

There will always be someone who is inconvenienced because forgot their ID at home or forgot to renew it, my wife who looks young finds that out on occasion when she orders drinks at a bar or restaurant.

Guess who did not get to vote: Illegal aliens and Democrat operatives multi-voting. That is the single biggest reason Trump won that state and the real reason Leftist oppose voter ID.

Learn to read that is not what I said at all.

As a Libertarian I think the Patriot Act should disappear immediately to prevent Wannabe Dictators like Obama and Hillary form having that type of power. Despite all his flaws Bush never showed that he was a Wannabe Dictator.

"Stupid black people" is not how I think of African Americans, it's how Leftist who don't want Voter ID laws think of them. Its the excuse they always give for why there should be no voter ID. The only real racism in America today is from people calling themselves Progressive or Liberal.

Yep, Feingold was the one senator who voted no, and there were also 66 congressman who voted no. GOP support for the Patriot Act was one of the biggest reasons many Conservatives stopped voting for several elections cycles.

Virtues of Planned Parenthood? I simply gave you an unbiased fact to counter your misconception.

More claims without facts to back them up...

But even if what you say is accurate, putting any tax money toward it at all violates anyone with religious objections civil rights.

And putting tax money towards a war I disagree with violates my own personal/religious objections. And it just so happens far more of my (and other's) money goes towards war than abortion. Yet, I do not see many Christians, particularly those pro-life types on the right, speaking out against that use of taxpayer funds.

And there is no Constitutional requirement that states not fund abortions. Btw, I said nothing about providing for defense. I am talking about spending for unnecessary wars.
