Now that the poor man is finally at rest, I figured I should post this:

It sure was nice to turn on the “Sunday shows” and finally get away from all the politics of this weekend’s funerals.

Listening to failed politicians hijack the funerals of two such respected American heroes as John McCain and Aretha Franklin so they could smear the sitting president really tells you all you need to know about those washed-up has-beens.

It was particularly strange to listen to all these rabid enemies of McCain in life heaping praise on him in death.

McCain was a rare genuine battle hero in American politics; but American politics treated him badly. During his presidential campaign against then-Sen. Barack Obama, McCain was slimed as a racist. During his campaign against then-Gov. George W. Bush, he endured sneaky robocalls accusing him of having an illegitimate black child.

Hard to see how both could be possible. But when it comes to low-down, dirty, dishonest gutter politics in America, nothing is out of bounds.

And...

Here's a flashback, courtesy of Pew Research, from the final weeks of the 2008 campaign in terms of the kind of media coverage the Republican presidential nominee received in his race against then-Sen. Barack Obama. Just 14 percent of coverage of McCain was positive from the Republican National Convention that ended on Sept. 4 through the final presidential debate on Oct. 15; 57 percent was negative. Translation: McCain's coverage was negative over positive by a 4-to-1 ratio.

Compare that to coverage of Obama, who received 36 percent of coverage than was positive, and 35 percent that was neutral or mixed, according to the study. Just 29 percent of coverage was negative — about half that of McCain's.

So to translate, the media treated John Mc Cain as they do any other Republican - like ****. They posted much more negative news that positive, and never held back their criticism. I won't even digress into Sarah Palin's treatment.

The media and the politicians that treated McCain like dirt when he was alive, lionized him in death.

The whole media show was Stormy Daniels without the tits. One big church full of "whores and and the men who love them", back slapping, ass kissing, self indulgent, opportunistic **** show to show America that the sooner the old guard is gone, the better.

The only person who had a dog in the fight was Megan McCain. The rest of them were noting more than media pimps reading poll tested, professionally produced speeches trying to buff up their 2020 resumes.

I heard the casket was moving, because McCain rolling over in at 500 RPM. They miss him because they can't torture him any longer.

Of course the Right wants to forget that McCain made the most important vote of this Senate Session and quite possibly the most important vote of his career when he went thumbs down on Trump and Mitch's effort to kill the ACA.

Sometimes a single vote, particularly at the end of a Senatorial career has the effect of coloring a Senatorial career. Those from the Left that want to criticize McCain look at his voting record in total simply tallying up the votes one way or the other and they have a case except that the one vote on ACA was the single most important vote of this Senate Session. Those from the Right that want to criticize McCain want to criticize McCain because he crossed swords with the single man that represents the entirety of the Alt-Right and new Right power base, Donald Trump.

At the end of any politician's days if we find critics from both sides of whatever the current political spectrum of that day might be, that is probably not a bad place for that politician to be.

My biggest complaint about McCain, I cannot to this day fathom whether he ended up after all said and done supporting the idiot war in Iraq as a political exigency or if he actually thought we had good reason for that. We do have some politicians that are utterly devoted to the military/industrial complex and as a result come down hard in favor of military intervention virtually everywhere which is how we end up mired in places like Afghanistan and creating messes like what we got out of taking out Saddam in Iraq. Continuing to defend the war in Iraq when the wreckage from that mess is as clear as the noses on our faces is just the most absurd bit of lunacy.

One thing the polite media misses about McCain is the psychological difference between Anglo and Asian cultures in how they treat prisoners of war. Our national leaders let them do it, and continued to let them get away with it rather than draw a line in the sand and engage in clear, publically proclaimed linkage to civilian centric destruction of power plants and infrastructure until they stopped. There were lots of sweet targets in NVN we could have hit but decided to play tiddly winks with American lives.

If I were John McCain, that is exactly the send off I would have wanted.

It rocked.

And that single vote confirmed forever his legacy of being a liar to the very people who voted him into office.

John McCain is running for reelection like it’s 2010.

The Arizona Republican has made his opposition to Obamacare — which dominated Senate races across the country six years ago — a central point of his campaign, by all accounts, the toughest reelection fight of his career.

He’s betting that shrinking coverage options and premium increases that could go as high as 65 percent if insurers get their way will resonate with Arizona voters, even as most of his Republican colleagues running this year have moved on to other issues.

The issue helps him run to the right of his GOP primary opponent, while also taking a direct shot at his Democratic opponent, Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, who called her 2010 vote for the law the one she’s “most proud about.”

“I think it’s a very strong issue,” McCain told POLITICO about his focus on Obamacare. “Eight of the counties in my state will now only have one [health insurer]. They’re staring at 65 percent increases in their premiums. They’re very upset.”

The only people who want to forget that are the people who want to use McCain to attack Trump.

Ted Cruz is losing in Texas. He has to ask for money in Washington and ask Trump for help.

you were saying.

John McCain never groveled to Obama or Trump.

"And that single vote confirmed forever his legacy of being a liar to the very people who voted him into office."

Laughably absurd.

Actually, McCain helped Obama. He fully supported Obama in arming Syrian rebels...many of whom turned around, took their arms and joined ISIS. Of course, like Hillary, McCain never met a war he didn't like...he, like Obama and Hillary, were just too stupid to realize they were going to be taken advantage of.

And that single vote confirmed forever his legacy of being a liar to the very people who voted him into office.

That awful legislation the GOP was trying to sneak through (rightfully reviled by the vast majority of the public) wouldn't have fulfilled his promises. All McCain asked for was an actual legislative process.

“I voted for the motion to proceed to allow debate to continue and amendments to be offered. I will not vote for the bill as it is today. It’s a shell of a bill right now. We all know that. I have changes urged by my state’s governor that will have to be included to earn my support for final passage of any bill. I know many of you will have to see the bill changed substantially for you to support it.

“We’ve tried to do this by coming up with a proposal behind closed doors in consultation with the administration, then springing it on skeptical members, trying to convince them it’s better than nothing, asking us to swallow our doubts and force it past a unified opposition. I don’t think that is going to work in the end. And it probably shouldn’t.
“Let the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee under Chairman Alexander and Ranking Member Murray hold hearings, try to report a bill out of committee with contributions from both sides. Then bring it to the floor for amendment and debate, and see if we can pass something that will be imperfect, full of compromises, and not very pleasing to implacable partisans on either side, but that might provide workable solutions to problems Americans are struggling with today.

Laughably absurd.

But in no way comparable to the shear volume and depth of Individual 1's daily nuggets.

He had an opportunity to honor the commitment he made to his voters: Repeal Obamacare. Instead, he spouted weasel words to get out of it. He lied to them.

The entire GOP lied when they said they had a replacement to go with their repeal.

I quite agree. He got a nation wide send off. And he has Trump to thank for it. He became a 'hero' to the leftists that only a few short years ago where spewing their mindless hate filled vitriol towards him. I really dont think McCain cared if it was out of real adoration and respect for him, or if it was just "heh..hell yes. Hold a state funeral...**** Trump!"

The entire GOP lied when they said they had a replacement to go with their repeal.

Doesn't matter.

McCain told his voters he would repeal Obamacare. He lied.

McCain ran on repealing Obamacare. :lamo

So the Trumpsters have a problem with McCain supposedly 'lying' about repealing ACA but they have NO problem with Trump and the rest of the GOP lying about REPLACING ACA.. And they have no problem with this>:

“We’re going to have insurance for everybody,” Trump said in an interview with The Washington Post. “There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can’t pay for it, you don’t get it. That’s not going to happen with us.”

No he didn't. He voted. He voted down the "skinny" repeal bill.

He lied about repealing Obamacare. In all fairness, he wasn't the only Republican that sold us that bad bill of goods.
