Most Republicans want bigger government as well. The GOP has held the government enough times to have decreased its size and scope, but has grown it instead. The biggest jumps in deficit seem to happen under Republican leadership. So this whole "Democrats want bigger government" is just a partisan ploy because Republicans grow the government as well. However, welfare to the able-bodied I don't like. The able bodied should work. If an able-bodied person wants welfare, they should be forced to work for the disabled.

I worked in the retail industry for a few years and it is amazing what all kind of crap can be bought. I do realize that these people are poor so they have to buy the most inexpensive grocery itmes and that often includes junky stuff but there's got to be some limitations.

I do believe the leftists have already had that argument and won. I have seen some very hefty welfare queens buying Cheetos and cupcakes with food stamps. I think their argument is that it is embarrassing and heartless if we don't allow them to buy those things.

This comes out to about 2.7 billion per year savings, compared to a 1 trillion dollar deficit. At the same time military and defense spending has risen from 767 billion under Obama to 989 billion under Trump. Meanwhile food stamps cost a total of 70 billion per year.

Food stamps help a lot of very needy people. Not everyone is lucky enough to live in a zip code with well paying jobs. Not everyone is able to work a well paying job, often due to no fault of their own. Sitting in judgment over less fortunate without knowing anything about them is unbecoming.
