Florida school shooting suspect is a white nationalist, group leader says

Thank you, that connection seems clearer the previous ADL report. The previous article stated that Cruz was a member of a White Supremacist group, but all Jereb said in that article was that he had a brief encounter with Cruz when Cruz was 15 or 16... but not since? I wonder what happened?

That also was from a time when Jereb's mother was alive.

Here is the paragraph, the first sentence and the second sentence don't seem to go together:

The leader of a white nationalist militia called the Republic of Florida said Cruz was a member of his group and participated in exercises in Tallahassee. Jordan Jereb told The Associated Press that he had only a brief interaction a few years ago with Cruz, who came across as “a normal Florida white guy.”

That seems weird, like they are meshing the ADL story and the AP story into one paragraph.

Quibble how you want. I'm sure as hell not going to argue about whether some Nazi scum is a source or not. Hopefully, the journalist who wrote the story checked it out.
 
Their website says they are openly working with Spanish speaking and Cuban allies. They will work with them to fight communism, but mix their races. Shooting people with your Hispanic ally is okay, ****ing each others women is not.

ISIS did the same thing, take credit for rampage shootings. They might do it for publicity, or maybe it gives them a thrill, or maybe they think it will start a race war. Could be all kinds of reasons, but until I see some evidence I think he's probably full of ****

These wackaloon groups usually find common cause like this. Every racial group has a subset who abhors race mixing.

I guess we now know why Cruz was only briefly with the white Supremacist group... as a white kid of Hispanic descent he was lost between the white supremacists and their radical Hispanic supremacist allies.

I wanna go out on a limb here and attempt to connect some dots.
* Shooter has a history of violence, enough red flags that people expected him to do something like this.
* As part of his violent character, he is attracted to the gun culture and paramilitary nature of the ROF. Probably would have joined any armed group that would have him, but I could be wrong.
* I don't believe he has made any statements yet as to why he carried out the shooting. Until he speaks on this it's kind of hard to say this was either a bona fide terrorist attack linked to group, or it is just a nutcase who lost his **** and shot up the school that expelled him.

I do not think there is enough to pin this kid down as a lone wolf actor carrying out an attack as part of his ideological beliefs. I also am not so sure I buy into the argument that "how can he be a racist if he shot white kids." Plenty of racist hate groups will hurt or kill members of their own race if they consider them race traitors. Further the ROF was openly working with Spanish speaking Floridians and Cubans under the auspices of sharing a mutual enemy - communism.

It hard to make a judgement call on what this event should actually be classified as other than a mass school shooting. Right now that is the only description that is completely valid. The race flag might be getting thrown a tad early due to some circumstantial issues.

I'm sure we will know more by tonight or tomorrow. I think we might consider turning down the heat a bit.

They tell you right in the story that the information came from this one guy.

Am I the only one that finds it humorous that the media goes to great lengths to call this guy the "alleged killer" despite dozens of witnesses and probably even video, but they get a call from some random white supremacist guy who makes a claim and some reporters are willing to act as if it's a fact in the first line of a news story?

I think Cruz wasn't so much dedicated to the ideology as he was attracted by their para-military nature and they were willing to take him in. I think his "training" or something helped to build up his fortitude to actually go through with something he had been planning on doing before he joined the ROF. Just a guess.

But how stupid is it for the ROF to claim this kid? You want the FBI up your ass, tell the world your guy just shot and killed a bunch of innocent kids. They should have said "yeah we know him, no he doesn't really belong to us and we disavow all connection to this event."

I won't say the ROF thing is a red herring, but I feel like some of this is more circumstantial than it is a material element of why this shooting.

I could be completely wrong though.

I have yet to see the separation here, but Medicaid cuts are expected to be quite larger than just the work requirement savings.
