Wow there now.. who the hell said that "sewing a vagina shut" is what they are having done? There are different traditions depending on what area of the world we are talking about. Some remove the labia, others remove the labia and the clitoris,. or just clitoris.. and in some rare insane cases, they sew the vagina shut.. well not totally.

The doctor claimed her procedure involved no cutting and one of the girls described having to later visit another doctor to "get the germs out".

For us in the Muslim world female circumcision is, above all else, obedience to Islam, which means acting in accordance with the fitrah and following the Sunnah which encourages it. We all know the dimensions of Islam, and that everything in it must be good in all aspects, including health aspects. If the benefits are not apparent now, they will become known in the future, as has happened with regard to male circumcision – the world now knows its benefits and it has become widespread among all nations despite the opposition of some groups.

Yep, someone forgot to tell Islam FGM isn't part of their religion. The excuse making in your post helps doom girls to a horrific fate.

To begin: FGM is abhorrent and of course it should be illegal, and is in most places. Blaming the Left is stupid. The work is done at home, and is ongoing abroad, but there will always be outliers.

Two things are to be gained from this:

1) There is still a problem with FGM around the world. Numerous social justice groups are working on it. If you want more info, Google is your friend. To make it easy, copay and paste: organizations working against FGM

2) Given the drastic variance of FGM rates across Muslim countries, with most countries reporting at less than 50%, no generalization can be made about Islam and it's support of FGM, as clearly a movement is underway to stem the practice in many Muslim nations.

So, basically, this is yet another "look at this horrible thing, see, I was right, all {insert minority here} are garbage, and the Left look like idiots for saying otherwise" type of post. Maybe if the folks who get off on this sort of thing did a bit research, instead of blowing their loads as fast as possible when they find things that support their small minded views, they'd get a little more traction. As it is....ya, couldn't be more transparent.

Plus your graph is a bit off. Much of the FGM in the Arabian peninsula is among immigrant populations from areas that traditionally do it. Your whole theory about it being "muslims" falls apart when you actually look at the countries. In Nigeria, it is the Christian population that does it, and in Ghana it is also the Christian population. Problem is, as I have pointed out time and time again.. it is tradition that has been woven into religion. The Bible and Koran say nothing about the practice. It is also why there is almost no FGM in places like Malaysia and frankly most Muslim countries. Those areas that do have it, can more than often link it back to traditions stemming from the African sub-continent going back thousands of years.

FGM and male circumcision are not the same.
