U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli wrote on X that "Alejandro Theodoro Orellana was arrested this morning by @FBILosAngeles on an allegation of Conspiracy to Commit Civil Disorders (18 USC 371) for distributing face shields to suspected rioters on Tuesday."

The U.S. Attorney confirmed on X that this is part of the ongoing efforts to arrest and identify people involved in "organizing and/or supporting civil disorder in Los Angeles."

..."Alejandro was providing masks and face shields to violent rioters throughout the week and was arrested by our SWAT teams this morning with the success and the appreciation and assistance from the U.S. Attorney's Office," Davis said. "That case is ongoing, but Ariana is in custody as we speak."

No official charges have been filed yet in this case.

Conspiracy to commit civil disorders. By handing out protective masks.

Mr. Orellana is being held without formal charges. It appears the government is attempting to quash dissent by any means possible.

Ummm...no. Not "attempting to quash dissent". Attempting to hold those who enable civil disorders (riots) responsible for their actions.

Guilty of what, though? What's a "suspected rioter" to the Bondi DoJ?

Well, that's where the "they're going to need more than that to convict" comes in.

If it is found he conspired with other protestors to riot, then they have a case.

If all they have is a vid clip of some dude handing out masks, knowing there could easily be tear gas eventually among the crowd, then they have nothing.

My concern is that their nothing has already proven effective at destroying lives, enhancing elected Democrat cowardice, and increasing malaise and anomie.

It's mine too but this is what just slightly more than half of America voted for.

Now we're all paying the price.

.......it's only unfair when the law goes after your own kind.

That's right. The guy was a part of encouraging people to engage in civil disorder. That has nothing to do with a peaceful protest. When are some people going to learn that they risk arrest if they break the law?

How does providing protective gear exactly and precisely encourage civil disorder?

Also, which podcaster introduced all online conservatives to civil disorder?

Im not sure they can make this stick.

Here is the Code...

If two or more persons conspire either to commit any offense against the United States, or to defraud the United States, or any agency thereof in any manner or for any purpose, and one or more of such persons do any act to effect the object of the conspiracy, each shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.

They would need to be able to prove Orellana knew the people he was giving the face shields to were going to use them to commit crimes.

I expect charges will be dropped.

How does providing protective gear exactly and precisely encourage civil disorder?
By minimizing the risk to the rioter. Someone who feels safer is more willing to be where there is risk.
Also, which podcaster introduced all online conservatives to civil disorder?
Some people know that peaceful demonstrations are protected by the Constitution and that riots are against the law. Such people may not even need a podcaster to know that.

According to the article the only thing he has done was sell face shields to people who allegedly then went and rioted violently. The only explanation for your claim that he was encouraging them is if you were there, so may I ask how is it that you know the person who was arrested? What did say at the time to convince you that he wanted you to break the law? I imagine that you reported it?

If you haven't shared what you saw and heard with the FBI, may I suggest that you contact them via their tip line? https://tips.fbi.gov/home - if you wish, and only with your permission, I'd be happy to reach out to them on your behalf to let them know that you have evidence that he was encouraging people to break the law. I believe they would find this information very useful.

They would need to be able to prove Orellana knew the people he was giving the face shields to were going to use them to commit crimes.
That shouldn't be too hard if they saw him handing out face masks to people who were in a group of rioters.

So, you have a problem with every gun shop in America. Their product also reduces risks.

You all started using civil disorder at the same time.

They were a group of rioters were they. Do you know that or are you being creative?

@RetiredAtLast is arguing that gun shop owners can be arrested if they make guns available to people who then commit a crime with them.

Who would have thought he was a leftist?

No, the much better explanation for my comment is the article quoted in the OP.

My only explanation for that claim is that he was there, since he appears to know details about the intentions and motivations of everybody involved that was not made public. This is why I believe he should be contacting the FBI with this information rather than posting vaguely about it here.

If this is wtf they are talking about, their charges are weak as shit.

18 U.S. Code § 231 - Civil disorders

(1)Whoever teaches or demonstrates to any other person the use, application, or making of any firearm or explosive or incendiary device, or technique capable of causing injury or death to persons, knowing or having reason to know or intending that the same will be unlawfully employed for use in, or in furtherance of, a civil disorder which may in any way or degree obstruct, delay, or adversely affect commerce or the movement of any article or commodity in commerce or the conduct or performance of any federally protected function; or
(2)Whoever transports or manufactures for transportation in commerce any firearm, or explosive or incendiary device, knowing or having reason to know or intending that the same will be used unlawfully in furtherance of a civil disorder; or
(3)Whoever commits or attempts to commit any act to obstruct, impede, or interfere with any fireman or law enforcement officer lawfully engaged in the lawful performance of his official duties incident to and during the commission of a civil disorder which in any way or degree obstructs, delays, or adversely affects commerce or the movement of any article or commodity in commerce or the conduct or performance of any federally protected function—
Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.

A face shield is legal for anyone to possess, wear or sell.

They have to prove Orellana himself conspired to riot.

Tough job for a prosecutor.

No, the much better explanation for your comment is that you appear to have first hand knowledge of the people involved, including not only their actions but their motivations.
