Donald Trump wants couriers to replace email [W:191]

You were referring to Trump supporters. Black folks voted for President Trump in record numbers.

Oh, yes, record numbers

Clinton needed extremely strong support from African-American voters to try to offset Trump’s margin among whites. She did win 88 percent of the black vote to just 8 percent for Trump. However, this was significantly lower than the 93 percent of black voters Mr. Obama won four years ago. The falloff in her share of the black vote was entirely due to black men. Clinton won among black women by a 93 percent to 4 percent margin. Among black men she won by 80 percent to 13 percent.

8%. Record numbers. Anyway, it's more than the 0% that the polls were predicting at one time.

I partly agree with him.

Were I POTUS, I would NEVER email anything unless it was something I did not mind the entire world reading. And I would instruct my staff/cabinet to do the same thing - email nothing that is remotely sensitive.

Everytime I email something, I assume just that - that the entire world could read what I am typing (though since I am a nobody - few will care).

But there are alternatives to couriers for the layperson...encrypted emails. There are sites that will encrypt your email and make them virtually unhackable...apparently.

That's the idea. Signal is the most user friendly and is what you can get your non-tech-minded family members to use, though you'll have to set it up for them.

If I were doing genuinely sensitive things between a large number of people, however, I would take the extra time to set up Mailvelope. It requires extra steps, but the attention you give to putting people in your network is a much stronger filter for preventing illegitimate people from contacting you.

Both of these utilize end-to-end pgp encryption.

No, he just made a comment that you want to interpret as showing him as being ignorant of technology. It's no different than the dim bulbs who claimed that Pres. Obama knew nothing about geography because of his "57 states" comment.

It is one on a long list of things is not the first time he has made an ignorant statement on technology.

Email can be made more secure. Start with encrypting it with a decent algorithm like AES256 using a > 128 bit cipher.
Servers can be made more secure. Networks can be made more secure. The problem is people and organizations are lazy.

And hardcopy/couriers are VERY insecure. A financial institution recently lost some NPI employee data because the guy was carrying hardcopies, left them in his bag in his car and had his car stolen. That can be mitigated by giving the courier a USB drive with encrypted data but that's no different than sending encrypted email.

Actually it is different. It's a lot slower.

I find it hilarious that so many people bought into this BS thread to begin with.

I mean how desperate and petty do people have to be, to peddle the dishonest and utterly ridiculous notion that Trump wants to replace email with couriers?

Clinton lost... Get over it or seek therapy to assist you in getting over it.

Three words: Clinton's private server

Diplomatic Pouch Defined

A diplomatic pouch (or “bag”) is any properly identified and sealed package, pouch, envelope, bag, or other container that is used to transport official correspondence, documents, and other articles intended for official use, between:

  • Embassies, legations, consular posts, and the foreign office of any government;
  • The headquarters or any other office of a public international organization and its regional offices in the United States or in a foreign country; or
  • The foreign office of any country with full membership in a public international organization and its mission to that organization.

"A diplomatic bag, also known as a diplomatic pouch, is a container with certain legal protections used for carrying official correspondence or other items between a diplomatic mission and its home government or other diplomatic, consular, or otherwise official entities.[SUP][1][/SUP] The physical concept of a "diplomatic bag" is flexible and therefore can take many forms (e.g., a cardboard box, briefcase, duffel bag, large suitcase, crate or even a shipping container).[SUP][1][/SUP] Additionally, a diplomatic bag usually has some form of lock and/or tamper-evident seal attached to it in order to deter interference by unauthorized third parties. The most important point is that as long as it is externally marked to show its status, the "bag" has diplomatic immunity from search or seizure,[SUP][2][/SUP] as codified in article 27 of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.[SUP][3][/SUP] It may only contain articles intended for official use.[SUP][3][/SUP] It is often escorted by a diplomatic courier, who is similarly immune from arrest and detention.[SUP][2][/SUP][SUP][3][/SUP]"

"People are embarrassing themselves here...."

Indeed. Have you been too embarrassed to reply?

Ignorance from a non politician....Hmmmm....Who would have imagined.....?

Some anti trumpsters like to accuse him of being a liberal

If so he's by far the smartest lib in this room

First fire all the computer illiterate I.T guys in the government

You know, folks the ones who gave us the billion dollar Obamacare website

And replace them with people who know what they are doing

Then if in spite of our best efforts the government cannot keep its emails private then trump is correct

Government has to stop using emails for official communications

The problem with your post is that, despite the error in the thread title, Trump hasn't called to "stop using emails for official communications".

What did the past three Republican candidates get? IIRC it was around half of what President Trump scored.

I don't know, but if 8% represents "record numbers", then the GOP seriously needs to look at why they have so little support from the black community.

Unless, of course, it means record low numbers.

Trump did better among African Americans than either Romney or McCain. Of course, he wasn't running against BHO.

All things are relative.

Yes, they are. Trump getting 8% of the vote is doing relatively well.

I wonder if blacks are more difficult to con than whites. There must be some explanation for the difference in voting.

The US Government does use couriers for some sensitive material!

Diplomatic Courier Service

To convey and protect classified and sensitive U.S. materials in transit abroad, DS relies on more than 100 diplomatic couriers.

Working out of the United States and seven overseas locations, the Diplomatic Courier Service provides both scheduled and special delivery of materials for the U.S. Department of State and other federal agencies working at U.S. diplomatic posts abroad.

It remains to be seen whether anyone was conned and, if so, who.

Yes, it does. If Trump actually does get jobs back from overseas, sends "crooked Hillary" to jail, gets a wall built paid for by Mexico, and deports the illegals, then he won't have been a conman.

No more so than most presidential candidates. It is, IMHO, a bit of silly petulance to hold Trump to a 100% standard not imposed on anyone else.

So Donnie was talking about international classified and sensitive information shared between embassies and abroad?
