Does Donald Trump know what he signed up for?

Common sense says you do not say that to the widow, or the mother. To the father who was a soldier sure

I must have missed the memo. It has been my understanding that women want to be treated the same as men. Has that changed?

In light of the recent controversies regarding Trump and five star families and Kelly's statements, I am beyond outraged.

Kelly tried to clarify what Trump was trying to say.

Yeah...gotta wonder if Kelly knew what he signed up for too...

Why would he stoop to lying? Has he turned?

I think Trump knows exactly what he signed up for and I can see how he see's many wins...I see the bigger confusion seeming to arise when those trying to judge him, view him as a President of the United States of America, a supporter of the Constitution, when that is not really his goal...he sees himself as a bigger worldly power in his use of the roll and that is measured in terms of amassed fortune and the ability to **** with others...gain their allegiance...perhaps an even bigger question might be...

Do Trump voter's know what they signed up for?

:doh

Enjoy your "outrage," that doesn't mean what you believe, or the version this Congresswoman claimed, actually occurred.

I prefer to believe General Kelly's version and I am not outraged...even if I were to accept that Mr. Trump may have stated exactly what the Congresswoman alleged.

You all act like he was intentionally trying to insult or dismay someone.

He spoke to four families and the only person to complain (albeit shortly echoed by the Aunt of the soldier) was a second-hand witness to (in her own admission) part of a single call.

Elsewhere in this Forum evidence in the form of a recording of an actual call was provided, by the grieving widow of another fallen soldier, and she was proud to receive his call.

Like General Kelly stated, it is never easy to communicate with the families when they lose a loved one, in or outside of military service.

Trump tried and there was no malice or evil intent.

Portraying his attempt as such is the REAL evil in all this brouhaha. People who keep pushing it are the ones who should be ashamed of themselves IMHO.

I'm willing to assume that he had no evil intent.

That said any moron should know that "he knew what he signed up for" is not what most widows or parents would want to hear. The fact that one spouse didn't find it offensive is irrelevant. Any idiot should know that many would.
And once the President found out that Mrs. Johnson was hurt by his comments he should have called her again and tried to make it right, preferably after speaking to someone who actually knows how to speak to people in mourning for pointers first.

And finally he should never have involved Kelly. That was beyond classless.

I was and am quite unhappy with Trump. But this side show is more disgusting by the way of loud liberal bigotry than anything else.

It's another example of Trump's complete lack of empathy.

Aside from that it's also worrisome because it highlights that the man doesn't bother preparing for the tasks he must undertake or prepares and the chucks those preparations out the window and improvises. If he can't get something easy like this right what's going to happen when he really tries to tackle hard.

On the contrary that's what a lot of close relatives are telling themselves. And they are correct.

I heard a very similar comment from a friend of mine when her son in law drowned in a kayak accident. He was doing what he wanted to do and knew the risks. It's self justification to explain the unexplainable.

Trump knows what he's doing: scapegoating blacks. First it was the knee, now it's Wilson and the family of Sgt Johnson. It beats admitting that he screwed the pooch, especially when he knows his base will lap it up.

Agreed. But taking a small fragment of what is said out of context, politicizing it, using it to score cheap political points, is typical of the left's MO.
Less typical for the right, but they do it too.

Did you read my OP? I already addressed this. Kelly clarified what Trump was trying to say, and Trump did, according to Kelly, say he knew what he signed up for. If this were an isolated incident, it could all be chalked up to poor communication. However, it's not an isolated incident. Do you have a convenient excuse for all the other criticism I listed in the OP? Why does he have a history of lying to Gold Star families and attacking people's service?

He probably has more respect for the fallen than he has for you, too.

So?

Is Khizr Khan a relative of yours? If not, why would you cry for him? Do you cry for everyone who's lost a family member? If so, you must be in tears a good deal of your life.

All I'm seeing in thread like this -- and, there are plenty of them -- is people trying so hard to cast aspersions on Trump for silly things.

There are real reasons for calling Trump out, but this isn't one of them. This is a sign of how petty (some folks) on the losing side have become since the election. Not all. Most are intelligent people who realize they need to get their ducks in a row before the next election, but we're still seeing a large number of the disgruntled that are focusing on shallow issues such as this one.

It's fascinating, really.

The Khan family doesn't find it silly. I have cried for many veterans and fallen. I don't see any point to your joke.

I see you served for the free education, not our country.
Have you ever been in a conversation and say something that you meant to be a good hearted statement, but other folks didn’t understand what you were saying?
ISIS- wonder why now they are being defeated?
McStain- He attacked Trump first, don’t leave that out, I do agree maybe it was wrong to attack him as a POW because he had plenty of other things to attack McStain on.
Gold star family- This was taken fully out of context, I know it might be hard but you gotta use a little common sense to understand sometimes.
Shooting someone- see this is another thing you have to use common sense, surly you aren’t so dumb to think he was really saying he would shoot someone.
But thanks for serving your free education not your country.

Well, I guess if Trump shares your sentiment that vets are just grifters trying to get free stuff, then he has no actual respect for them. This is just awful.

Hard to believe the Left is still trying to milk this for Political gain.
Its as appaling today as it was the day it started

Not hard to believe when the President keeps it up, especially his position, constantly reinforced, that the exact wording of what he said makes a bit of difference. That not hard to believe either, he can never let anything go.

I was and am quite unhappy with Trump. But this side show is more disgusting by the way of loud liberal bigotry than anything else.

“Bigotry”? Christ, give me a break.

Trumps constant use of the troops for political spin his aggrandizement is pathetic.

Someone whose statements always need to be interpreted should probably not be president.

No joke. You claim that you cry for people you don't know. I find that odd. That's all. I also find it unlikely that you personally know the Khan family. It's possible, but highly unlikely.

He can never let anything go? Really, 24/7 bash Trump at all cost.
Watch MSM any hour of the day or night then get back to me.

See this is what I’m talking about, use common sense, I never said all military folks are that way, most are true Americans

'Scuse you, sir, but when I joined, it was too late to be eligible for the old GI bill, and too early for the Montgomery GI bill. There was an educational assistance program called "VEAP" that was roundly criticized for its ineffectiveness - it worked in the same way that "health savings accounts" are supposed to work - spend a dollar, the government puts in two dollars. I'd hardly call that "free", especially when one is a low-ranking enlisted sending home a significant portion of the paycheck to his mother to help help her. In other words, you made an ASSUMPTION based on nothing more than what you personally wanted to believe about liberals. And your assumption turned out to be false.

FYI, if you'll look at my writings, I point out MANY times how I was a strong conservative until the early 1990's, and how I happily voted for both Reagan and Bush 41, and that I still hold Bush 41 to be a very good, very underrated president.

Next time, try asking first. Try gathering all the FACTS first before you make an assumption or an accusation. But you have to be careful, because that's what got me to become a strong liberal instead of remaining a strong conservative.

Have you ever been in a conversation and say something that you meant to be a good hearted statement, but other folks didn’t understand what you were saying?
ISIS- wonder why now they are being defeated?

If you'll check, most of the fighting is being done by Iraqi forces - we're helping, of course (with forces trained and paid for during the Obama administration), but the lion's share of the fighting is being done by the Iraqis. And if you'll do a little research, you'll find that it was Obama who got most of the rest of the Middle Eastern nations to band together to fight ISIS. Trump got lucky in that when he took over, the end of the war against ISIS was no longer in any serious doubt.

Next time, guy, do yourself a favor and learn how to determine facts before you start pumping out conspiracy-theory assumptions.

I still fill the same way, as I figure you still fill the same so we can just agree to disagree.
But thanks for your service anyway.

Uh-uh. No, you don't get to try to excuse your accusation so easily. You made an obviously false assumption and accused me of something, and you based your accusation on nothing more than my current political lean.

If you want me to let this go, then all I ask of you is a promise to at least TRY to verify the facts before accusing someone of doing something wrong, whether in politics or in everyday life. Please just try - that's all I ask, all anyone can ask.

I know him casually, not on a deep personal level or anything... I have met several members of his family.

Dude you have been trolled,
But I don’t think I accused you of doing something wrong, just different opinions , I still fill like lots of folks these days aren’t for America ,we can have different ideas but we are still brothers at the end of the day.
But don’t think you caused me to change my mind on anything.
I still fill the same as my first statement.
