Do we need the law proposed by the Dems to make it illegal to accept info from foreign gov.s?

Well, the emoluments clause in the Constitution makes it clear, but if there is any doubt, a new bill should do the trick.

But, I doubt McConnell is going to let it see the light of day.

I do not believe the wording of the emoluments clause makes it clear and I do not believe it means just information. if there is precedence that makes me wrong then i would like to see it.

secondly, it stands that is the reason the house wants to pass a bill to do this, as it is not currently illegal, imo.

Sure.

The Mueller report was commissioned because the Democrats and the GOP NeverTrump faction demanded actions against the duly elected president. The"evidence" used as the basis for the investigation was generally manufactured from whole cloth and promoted by proxies of the Clinton campaign, the DNC and John McCain.

A perfect Trumpster answer and totally wrong. You know what you wrote is wrong and so does anyone with a working brain. This whole thing got started with Papodapolis and then Page. So keep trying that lie about it was the Dems and the NeverTrumps. You must believe as Hitler did that if you tell t a lie long enough not only will the people who want to believe get it, but you will yourself. It is called self delusion.

If you've been paying attention it's starting to look more and more like Papadopolous and Page were being fed information from Simpson associates and then Steele used those contacts to prime pump at the FBI.

The Dems in the house have sent a bill to the Senate making it illegal to accept or request info on an opponent from a foreign government or agent. Mitch McConnell has said he will not bring the bill for a Senate vote as it helps the Dems? I wonder how it helps the Dems and not the GOP, but keeping the question open on whether accepting or requesting info on an opponent violates present laws does allow Trump to say he does not think it does. It also allows him to request or accept such info and use it through intermediaries such as Wikileaks and claim he has not broken the law. So do we need a law making it specifically illegal to accept or request info from a foreign government or agent, or are you like Trump who believes it is okay?

No: 1) it'll create some slippery slopes, 2) it wouldn't pass the first court challenge and 3) it'll be open to abuse, one way, or another.

I'll vote yes. Cheato the orange clown has made it necessary.

But, not Hiitlery the old hag? You know, the only person to actually receive information from foreigners?...lol

Well, keep in mind, McConnell, the gravedigger of American democracy, is a bought and paid for whore.

And accepting it is already illegal.

If it was, they wouldn't be trying to pass a law that...um...makes it illegal. :lamo

Several. There's the secret non-admin meeting with the Russian intelligence agent in Trump Tower. Junior knew it was an intelligence agent. He solicited and received a meeting with that intelligence agent. Manafort laundering money and numerous illegal actions involving Russian intelligence agents. Various other campaign officials meeting with Russian intelligence agents and then lying to the FBI about it. Various other cabinet members meeting with Russian intelligence and then lying to the FBI about it.

Russian intelligence agents were an integral part of the Trump campaign.

But Hillary's campaign has nothing whatsoever to do with any foreign intelligence agents. You want to pretend an American company hiring a private British citizen is Hillary involved with "foreign agents".

It's a lie of false equivalence. Everyone can see it.

Stop lying.

I was referring to the Steele Dossier. She paid for it, ya know.

There's already a law that made her mishandling of classified material, illegal.

You still believe that horse****? :lamo

You do know that Mueller cleared everyone of collusion. Right?

That dog just ain't gonna hunt no more.

i don't care what you were referring to or any of your other posts. goodbye.

I don't care what you care about. But, when you post an erroneous comment, I'm going to challenge it.

Cry all you want: it's already illegal.

Yet again, you have no idea what you're babbling about.

So, are you saying congressional Democrats are stupid for trying to make it illegal?

What are they going to do, make more illegal? Double illegal? :lamo

I think the OP meant candidates running for election should not be able to receive information about their opponents in the election from agents of a foreign government.

You mean like the Clinton campaign did?

the Clinton campaign proactively sought dirt on Trump from Russian government sources. They did it through cutouts. In April 2016, Clinton campaign lawyer Marc Elias retained opposition research firm Fusion GPS to compile incriminating information on Trump. Fusion GPS in turn hired Christopher Steele, a former British MI6 operative with sources among Russian government officials. The result was the salacious dossier, whose sources included “a senior Russian Foreign Ministry figure” and “a former top level intelligence officer still active in the Kremlin.” Steele’s work was paid for by Clinton’s presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee. That means a paid agent of the Clinton campaign approached Russian officials for damaging material on Trump.

The truth is the issue not who says it. How can we say we are free and not allow other countries to voice their opinion. It is a global economy and who we elect effects the lives of everyone in the world. While they cannot should not vote for our leaders trying to tell them they have to shut up and not say what they want, think, or believe is a slap in the face to freedom. The information age should be stopping people like Stalin or Kim from suppressing the truth. How can we do the same and pretend we are free.

I question whether Mitch McConnell said he wouldn't bring it to the Senate Floor because it helped the Dems. I have had my problems with Mitch, but that sure doesn't sound like something he would say. Link?

Wrong. The report was comissioned after complaints of obstruction due to Trump firing Comey; but it didn't BEGIN there. It BEGAN in the FBI investigating Russian MEDDLING, not strictly ties to the Trump Campaign.

So please.

Stop listening to ****ing Hannity.

No such thing as obstruction for firing anyone who works at the pleasure of the president. It could only be obstruction if the president fired Comey that stopped an investigation.

No, it does not stand to reason.

It's only because so many don't understand the constitution, especially many on the right and Trump, in particular, are they (dems) feeling it necessary to embolden the clause with redundant legislation.

What Is the Emoluments Clause? | Britannica.com

The emoluments clause, also called the foreign emoluments clause, is a provision of the U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 9, Paragraph 8) that generally prohibits federal officeholders from receiving any gift, payment, or other thing of value from a foreign state or its rulers, officers, or representatives. The clause provides that:No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.

The Constitution also contains a “domestic emoluments clause” (Article II, Section 1, Paragraph 7), which prohibits the president from receiving any “Emolument” from the federal government or the states beyond “a Compensation” for his “Services” as chief executive.

Thing of value.

Is dirt on your opponent a thing of value?

Considering the market price for such things is in the millions for presidential campaigns, the answer is a resounding 'yes'.

The only one who 'requested' info from a foreign agent was Hillary. And if China, say, has dirt on Biden, they dont need to take that info to Trump. There are a thousand different ways they could get that info to the public if that was there goal. So, in short, this law is meaningless.

No, I'm saying that yet again you don't know what you're talking about and you're comparing apples to oranges.

It's what you do.
