Did the “send her back” chant go too far?

How about the one that helped to start the topic on this thread, the "they should go back to their countries" comment?

It makes not connotation of race, not one and yet people are clamoring at the chance to call it racist. Even though the comment does not match the definition of racism.

Simply put, it's not racist. Idiotic, yes of course. But not racist.

What do people of color think when someone tells them to go back to their country?

What do people of color think when someone tells them to go back to their country?

The same as when a white person thinks when someone tells them to do the same. That this person is a dick.

How about this; If I and more than a few other posters were to suddenly start believing that you were a racist. Does that make you a racist?

If I tell a black person to go back to Africa knowing they would think I'm racist, I wouldn't be surprised if they think I'm racist.

So you're saying that simply because someone thinks that you're racist. Simply makes you a racist.

Telling them to simply go back, isn't in itself a racist statement though. So why interpret it as such now?
Besides Trump didn't address anyone directly in that manner either.

I have no idea if Trump is actually racist or not. He should have known better. "Go back to where you came from" when spoken to people of color has been considered racist for a long time. EEOC defines it as harassment.

Consider this:

They define it as harassment?
So now we're ditching the whole racist stance and are now trying to latch onto harassment.

His statement, does not in fact reach the definition of racism. I'm being as straight forward as I can here.

This also takes into account that for such things to be defined as harassment. That they must meet the same definitive aberration as racism as well, correct?

Harassment based on ethnicity and race, yes. Hence why it's harassment. Spewing racist comments towards people of color is harassment.

What I am saying that the phrase is considered racist. That's all there is to it. Trump may or may not have meant it. Notice how the white supremacists are cheering him for his words?

I doubt a single hostile phrase, used once, is "harassment".

So you've jumped from calling it racist, to calling it harassment, and the reason it's harassment is because that it's racist. Even though that it's already been shown to not meet the definition of racism?

Do you not see the issue here?

So when a pedophile cheers on you, or anyone in your associated group. Does that make you, or anyone in your associated group a pedophile, or a sympathizer of theirs?

I’m mainly interested in what my fellow righties have to say, but of course anyone can vote. I hadn’t heard or read about it until this morning. IMO, yeah, I think it went too far and I’m glad the President made it clear he didn’t agree with it. It is one thing to suggest that someone leave the country on their own because they seem to intensely dislike it here, but chanting to “send her back,” presumably involuntarily, because we don’t like what she said? That’s not good and we shouldn’t defend it.

Attaching poll.

No one in the real world cares. People who were appalled by "she should leave" will see it as an extension of that (and likely reject any attempt to disavow, see this thread for examples). People who agreed with "she should leave" will see it as shorthand for that. Only in the artificial and hyper-sensitive world of Washington (and the minds of those who follow that world) is there a meaningful difference.

Sighs. Did you see the part where I said I have no idea if Trump is racist or not? The point of my comment about the white supremacists is that they saw his words as racist.

So now you're saying that the white supremacist are the sole dictators of this?

I'm merely looking for someone to supply proof that Trump is racist, nothing more.

Yet all some posters have been able to do is drop that link at my feet and act as if it proves everything. Then run away when they are asked to clarify their stance.

I never said that the white supremacists are the sole dictators of this. You should be careful not to put words in my mouth. :)

I have already clarified it. Many people consider the phrase to be racist. Trump knows that, if he's not dumb. It doesn't necessarily mean he's racist. Some people think he's racist. Some don't. Based on his history of words and actions, one can't help but wonder.

Many people used to believe that the earth was flat. That did not turn out to be correct, now did it?

If the closest proclamation you can come up with is "he might be, or I don't know". Then that is as far from a definitive stance as one can possibly get.

Because based on his history, he wasn't racist. Until he stated running for president and then people started clamoring out of the woodworks with long lost tales of racism and misogyny. Yet when asked to supply as much, and the chips are down, nothing comes of it.

It's the same as when black cabinet members were leaving the state house all those years ago and people claimed that the tea party members were spitting and calling them racist names.
Yet when it was asked that if anyone could supply proof of the deed, in an age with cell phone cameras. No one could do so.

Not even after a rewards was put up for such information. Such proof failed to materialize.

All in all, if someone thinks that you're a racist. That does not in fact make you one, no matter how hard they try to actually think it so.

I can easily supply that for you. Learn about Central Park Five and the housing discrimination.

The central park five has no basis for being claimed as racism and the housing discrimination never even reached Trump until it's later days. At which point it was obvious that the accuser only wanted money, because when the settlement came with no conformation of wrong doing on Trump's part. No one was going to bother and say any different, in lieu of a payout.

Trump refuses to apologize for the Central Park 5. As I have stated, his past history is questionable.

It isn't nice. It isn't helpful. It doesn't provide good optics. It may even be counterproductive. But its deserved in Omar's case. Omar is exactly the sort of person who ought to lose their citizenship and be deported in a freighter hold to Somalia. I can't think of a single redeeming quality in this biological automaton.

She's very stupid, irrational, anti-sematic, a uncharged perjurer, and a lifelong parasite on the US taxpayer. She married her own brother in some sort of immigration scam, filed false tax returns with a fake husband, lied to the court on her ignorance of the whereabouts of her brother, and has never worked a productive or wealth building day in her life.

Shes a taker, a sponge, and imported tick on the civic body. Raised under a fake family name, provided government grants to attend a public university under false pretenses, and made most of her income from elective office, that provided her taxpayer paid income to tell the rest of us taxpayers what we can and cannot do.

Why import such people? Who needed them?

Convict her on a crime, put her in a spare (disabled) freezer, poke a few holes in the door and load her up, and ship her out.

Hell yes go back where you came from.

But then, I'm in a good mood this evening, catch me tomorrow and I'll be much less kind.

Trump's next mass rally will inform us of much.

We know already about the Trump Rowers who are bumbling along at trying to be obtuse.

Trump Rowers simply can't shift the focus away from Trump and themselves, no matter how doggedly they try.

So? that does not make it questionable. It merely shows that he stood by what he said and believed it at the time.

He gave no basis for degradation of the individuals involved base on their race during the whole issue when it was ongoing, and did not do so in the years to come. The only proof that people have for this being racist. Is that he's white and they were not, even though not only Trump was calling for justice in this case. Because more than one demographic of people were doing the same back then.

Him being white, is not a reason for much in these cases and I've heard that argument more than a few times.

Some people think Trump is racist. Some don't.
Some people think his tweets are racist. Some don't.
That's all there is to it.
Perhaps Trump should be more careful next time and research before he opens his orange mouth.

Then I suggest that people not be so thin skinned about nothing, all of the time as well.

At least you decided to talk. The others just run away when someone pokes at their sensitive world views.
It's good to see though that you possess a sturdier make.

Then Republicans should have not been so thin skinned during Obama administration. :)
