Customer: Restaurant’s Suggested Tips Don’t Add Up, Are ‘Price Gouging’

In most states, it has to be minimum wage, but that's made up of pay plus tips. If tips are high, pay can be lower. No wonder they want high tips!

Are you claiming they wouldn't want high tips if they got higher wages?

Which would make you probably the only person who doesn't understand that that's not the thread topic. The topic is actually about lying to customers, not why and/or even really how much.

I already made my point there. Try to pay attention. I said I don't have a problem with it. There is a secondary discussion about tipping which is what I was commenting on in this thread which you appear to have missed entirely. If you need additional assistance please let me know.

tips are extra. they should have to pay minimum wage like everyone else.

That's simply false, they can pay as little as $2 an hour so long as tips bring it up to minimum wage.

I'm saying the business having reduced labor costs would be a positive to the business.

You're talking what is. He's talking what he believes should be, which acknowledges what is. Not the same.

I really don't care about someone's fantasies, I care only about reality.

i see no reason why restaurants should be exempt from minimum wage requirements.

Some states are like that. In those states, I would not feel the need to tip... or tip as much at least. Minimum wage still sucks

yeah, it definitely sucks. $2.13 an hour sucks worse, though.

that's why I tip a minimum of 5 dollars, even if just have a cup of coffee. I'll tip more on certain holidays too.

But they are in a lot of states. What you see the reason for and what exists in reality are two different things.

you must have misunderstood. i am aware that restaurants in most states are allowed to pay $2.13 an hour, and i am arguing that they shouldn't be allowed to do that.

Cool. Let us know when you get the laws changed to reflect that. Until then, we have to deal with the reality that is, not the reality that you wish existed.

i can't change laws myself, but i would definitely vote for a change on this issue. restaurants shouldn't be exempt from minimum wage rules.

Why are you so averse to people discussing other ideas? If I didn't know any better I'd think you're think kind of person who jumps and says, "Yes, sir!" to whatever other people say.
