College Football 2018-2019 Season

The ACC is not a pee wee conference compared to the AAC. And Clemson in all of the last few years has played against at least one SEC team. They beat Texas A&M this season and Auburn the two previous seasons. In comparison, UCF beat Auburn in a meaningless bowl game after Auburn's defense had been devastated with injuries from playing Alabama once and Georgia twice.if you want to be a fan of UCF, nothing wrong with that. They are doing great for where they are. They should enjoy it for what it is. However they are not a power house team They play in a conference loaded with cupcakes. If UCF were to get into the 4 team playoffs, they would get slaughtered All teams are not equal. I am not sure that Notre Dame belongs in the top 4. And I like the team and it's storied history.

I think basketball dollars mean quite a bit to the big conferences. UCF might thrive in a competitive football conference, but their basketball is most definitely second tier. The ACC would be great, but there is too much good B'Ball played there. They might do well to shoot for the Big East, improve their B'ball program and hope for an expansion somewhere.

With the exception of WSU and maybe Oklahoma, I think I agree. It might be good to see UCF in the final 4, just to put to rest any question. It seems every year a lower conference is claiming a right to a slot. Let's put that to rest, one way or the other. If UCF ends up undefeated, let them face a big school. Maybe we are wrong about them. Going against Clemson or Alabama would surely answer it, for good! Though, as a Fl. boy, I wish them the best, Alabama? Whoooosh!!

Frankly, I've always been an OU fan - lived in the state 10 years, married an Okie, and never lost my affection for the team or most of the people. That said, I doubt the rankings will elevate anyone other than, perhaps, Georgia. Perhaps someone sees two more losses in the top four, if so I'd like to hear who and why.

In any event, last year was Oklahoma's best shot and but for a key play or two in the battle with Georgia, they would have been a great opponent to Alabama. This year, however, its not likely. While Murray is even better than Mayfield, and Lamb has finally returned to top form (last year he was not), the defense is worse than last year - which is saying something given how badly it sucked last year.

How OU can recruit such great players on offense and, year after year, recruit the worst of the worst on defense eludes me. And Mike Stoops needed to go years ago.

Man do I miss the days of the explosive wish-bone - a run game as exciting as any passing team today.

Urb needs to retire.

The haunting, enduring image of college football this weekend was the tortured state of Ohio State’s Urban Meyer on the sideline on Saturday afternoon. In Ohio State’s back-and-forth overtime victory at Maryland, Meyer expressed a litany of pained contortions – palms pressed against his head, bent over at the waist while staring at the ground and hands on his knees away from a team huddle during a timeout. Urban Meyer, simply put, didn’t look right.

Likely:

Michigan loses to OSU because Michigan chokes, which is not out of the question. Then OSU loses to Northwestern because NW is not Michigan.

Georgia loses to Alabama because...Alabama.

OK loses either game of the next two: West Virgina on Saturday or (probably) Texas in the playoff.

What if?

WA St has the best chance to win out. But are they deserving over UCF?

1) Georgia loses to Alabama & a 2 loss Georgia team is out of the mix

2) Oklahoma is an underdog to West Virginia playing in Morgantown!

3) Took the words right out of my mouth except my scenario had Northwesrern beating Michigan. Earlier this year
Michigan beat Northwestern in a squeaker 20-17 Northw could reverse that easily in the Big Ten Championship.

4) I like Wash St & Mike Leach but they are only a 3 pt favorite vs Washington. Washington won the last 5 games
they played in routs. Washington has a good chance.

5) UCF has to live up to their end. Playing USF on USF home field will be no walking the park. They just squeaked
by USF last year at home. Then having to play houston in the championship game who already have beaten soundly
Big 12 & Pas 12 teams might be some heavy lifting. They should do it & then the committee would be reluctant not
to pit two undefeated in the 1-4 game.

As I recall & I think it was before the College Football Playoff Rankings. Hawaii was picked for the major bowl & was crushed by Georgia
they didn't belong but they got a chance. Why not another small conference team that if they hold up their end does belong even if
they draw the short straw & have to meet Alabama!

I wish we had at least a 6-team playoff, with two of those teams getting a bye. An 8-team P/O would be even better, but 6 would be good enough.

IMO, all undefeated teams should be ranked higher than one-loss teams, regardless of conference.

Big Ten: If Michigan wins out, it would be hard to bump them. If Ohio State wins out, I could justify bumping them.

PAC and Big 12: Both Oklahoma and Washington State with one loss deserve the bid over OSU--an exception to that would be if they commit the total destruction of Michigan Saturday and a minimum 3-TD win in the tournament.

That UCF Team: If they are one of four undefeated teams, I see no reason to keep them out.

What ever the case now a days fans are really lucky to be able to see every important college game on TV.
I'm a little long in the tooth now but when I was in grade school & high school they would have only one college game
on TV on Saturday, I think their was some kind of rule against showing more than one. We always looked forward
to New Years Day when we were offered the five bowls Cotton Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl
& the Gator Bowl!

No Power 5 team wants to risk a repeat of the 2007 Fiesta Bowl, when Boise State beat Oklahoma.

I remember when the college bowl games took on sponsors. One of the first that stuck with me was the USF&G Sugarbowl. Things went to hell from there....imo.

Since when are the college bowls games not take on sponsors? Haven't you heard of the Allstate Sugar Bowl? Chick Filet Peach Bowl? Goodyear Cottonbowl?

How old are you, 20? There was a world before you started paying attention...............

I believe Rexedgar is speaking of a time when, for example, there was the Cotton Bowl, and not the ( sponsor name here) Cotton Bowl. Like him, I long for those seemingly more pure times. Even then it probably was just as dollar driven, but it didn't come right and say it.

Aren’t you a NAVY fan?

Well, after reading the thread there is hope for Oklahoma. IF Alabama beats Georgia (likely). If Ohio State beats Michigan (less likely). And if OU does not stumble (Texas being the real threat remaining).

Yet, I don't think OU is worthy and could not win the NChap. Last year Georgia's offensive looked like it was Mike Tyson vs. O.U.'s Pee-Wee Herman defense. Georgia physicality made it look like big men against boys - to the point that on a couple of first plays of a procession they blew through the defensive line and easily ran for a touchdown.

Its sad. With a healthy set of running backs and Murry as QB that offense could beat anyone this year, including Georgia's defense.

I have to admit Army looks even stronger this year. That will make Navy's win that more impressive! You do know Mad Dog is rooting for Navy, right?

I hope he is the senior most official to attend.......

10-1 Michigan vs 10-1 Ohio State just does not feel like a battle between 10-1 teams. Neither team has impressed me much. Michigan lost to the only good team they played. And, OSU lost to the third place team in the incredibly weak B-10 West. Both teams looked pitiful last weekend in lackluster wins against sub-500 teams. No way does this game feel like it should matter.

That's why college football sucks.

Quite the contrary. I agree those two didn't impress much last weekend. I think you may be missing the pure essence of College football. Emotions, fan support, and the opportunity to bring home a trophy makes many players better than they are. That is the beauty of college football, they care about their school and teammates. Plus, if you are a fan of a College, you don't need worry your best players will go somewhere else for more money, and be playing against you next year.

I don’t much enjoy seeing good teams beat up on bad ones then being fluffed up and sold to the public as great ones.
