College Football 2018-2019 Season

Buckeyes looked solid today in handling MSU. Now, if Michigan can get by Rutgers (7-7 in the 2nd Q), we'll be on track for a hell of a game in two weeks.

Bama is on its way to a second shutout. 21-0 early in the third.

Hmm, I wonder what Vegas has on the Tide not giving up another point until the playoffs?

NFL needs to quit assing about and admit the thirty-third franchise in Tuscaloosa......

I suspect that both the Citadel and Auburn will put some points on Bama as Bama will be resting starters as soon as they gain control of the game. It's likely the Citadel will be going against Bama's 3rd and 4th string at some point in the second half.

That is just so unfair. j/k

If anyone gives Bama trouble for the rest of the regular season it will be Auburn, who is having a **** year, however they are always up for the Iron Bowl. Unfortunately for Auburn, that game will be played on Alabama's home field.

Don't try any field goals.

I may have had my doubts earlier in the season, but after seeing them win every game by over 20--shutting out the last two teams, which also happened to be ranked--I concede the point. Alabama is miles above the rest.

I'll be surprised if they see any trouble until Clemson. And, even that game will probably be nothing more than a speed bump.

It's fun to think about and to try to imagine them playing an NFL team, but the reality is that Alabama would lose badly to even the worst NFL team.

Buffalo is pretty bad. But, yeah, a college team stands no chance, unless the Bills start Nathan Peterman and leave him in for the whole game.

That's understandable if you do not follow Alabama all the time as I do. I also go to some of their games. Coach Saban has a consistent process in all phases. He recruits well, without paying attention to whether a player prospect is rated 4 star, 5 star, etc, develops players well, and their strength and conditioning coach is like a Marine Corp drill sergeant. Alabama has a first rate defense every year and to add to that, this year, Saban has the best offensive line he has ever had and the best quarterback in college football. They are for real, however they are human. They have to deal with injuries like every other team. if they have one weakness this season it is the field goal kicker, however he looked good yesterday.

Clemson is a great team, probably the only other team in college football who now looks as consistent as Alabama. However they were alot more dangerous to Alabama when they had Deshaun Watson as a quarterback. I suspect that barring major injuries, Alabama will go undefeated the rest of the season and the playoffs.

I remember when the college all-stars used to play the pro-football champions, the game was played I'm allmost certain till the mid 1970's.
I saw on TV in the 60's Ron Vanderkelen a really unheralded QB playing about the greatest Rose Bowl as Wisconsin came from 4 TD's behind
to score 4 times in the 4th quarter losing by a field goal as I recall. Because of that Vanderkelen drew the start in the college all star game
against the NFL champ Packers.

With Vanderkelen leading the way the college stars led all the way and finally beat Green Bay.

So if a group of college all stars could beat Lombardi's Champion Packers it stands to reason that Alabama which in this year qualifies
as a group of college all-stars maybe wouldn't have a chance to beat the Super Bowl Champs of this era I have a strong feeling
they could beat Buffalo & even a few other also-ran NFL teams.

Has Notre Dame been truly challenged? I once heard it said, If Notre Dame dropped Football, it would be three years before they weren't ranked.:2razz:

It's funny to realize that among Notre Dames last three games two of them will be played against Florida State & Southern Cal both usually
ranked in the top ten and both have been recent National Champs but are having mediocre years and the team that has the best chance
to end their undefeated season is a resurgent Syracuse team. I took Syracuse +9 1/2 this might be the best Syracuse team since the championship
days of Ernie Davis & Gerhardt Schwedes.

Cuse has a really good chance to win, IMO. Especially since the game is at home.

As it stands today, ND is the only team to beat one of the top four teams. Not that it matters. Alabama is just too good right now.

Wow! I was beginning to think the College all Stars against the Pro's was just in my imagination! What a great memory you have!

I long for the days my 'Noles had a mediocre season of 10-1. God Bless Bobby! Today it is hard to tell if they are getting better or worse. New Coaches can make a big difference, either way.

Agreed. 'Bama is in a different league. I'm afraid it is a race for second now. I wonder if Saban will someday make the Tide tuck away the Bear?

Bowden was one of the best. I enjoyed watching FSU when Bowden was there, but not so much after. The entire debacle regarding Jamis Winston put me over the top. Bowden would have handled it much differently than Fisher. I haven't been a fan of FSU since Winston.

Not to appear to melancholy, but I agree that Bobby was a different sort. I didn't like the way they brought in Jimbo, and I am glad he's gone. Unfortunately for the Buc's Jameis he is a high priced bench warmer here.
I have actually turned to the Big 12(Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, and those folks down south) for football these days. The ACC is certainly on a downward spiral.

Miami & Florida State were always in the top five from 86 to my guess was around 2001. My guess is that there fall from dominance is related to
the rise of UCF & USF who were never on the radar, in fact were Division I–AA teams during the heyday of Miami & Florida State. In state 4 & 5 star
players now have 5 teams to choose from not just Florida, Miami & Florida State diluting the talent.
