CIA Director Pompeo makes secret trip to North Korea: Meets with Kim Jong Un

WOW

CIA Director Mike Pompeo made a top-secret visit to North Korea over Easter weekend as an envoy for President Trump to meet with that country’s leader, Kim Jong Un, according to two people with direct knowledge of the trip.

The extraordinary meeting between one of Trump’s most trusted emissaries and the authoritarian head of a rogue state was part of an effort to lay the groundwork for direct talks between Trump and Kim about North Korea’s nuclear weapons program, according to the two people, who requested anonymity because of the highly classified nature of the talks.

The clandestine mission, which has not previously been reported, came soon after Pompeo was nominated to be secretary of state.

It's funny watching the unhinged left sweat this one. Trump's about to (rightly) get some credit for ending a 55 year war.

Who's ready for this?

I wish him luck. But Kim was reminded recently just who’s puppet he is. China will not let Kim cut them out of the agreement. China wants the north to be in charge of “unification” of the south. China does not want capitalism or freedom near China.

That boys and girls is the game. Pull out US troops in exchange for an end of nukes and an end to South Korea as a free country.

I doubt we would throw SoKo to the wolves. We will attack NoKo first and China is just going to have to sit there and take it. China’s is afraid of Japan's submarine fleet and they will bluster and feint toward Taiwan, but they won’t attack it. (At least that is what I hear).

China will only go to war if they can win. They don’t do “maybes”.

:lamo You are really jumping the gun here. Trump is in way over his head and never thinks long term strategy. No way this ends well. I'm not saying Nuclear, but whatever "deal" he strikes with Kim won't be good for the long run of whatever nations are involved. Japan is moving in on Trump as we speak.

Re: CIA Director Pompeo makes secret trip to North Korea: Meets with Kim Jong Un

Who's sweating what exactly?

Everyone wants a denuclearized Korean Peninsula, everyone.

Should Trumps initiative succeed, he absolutely deserves credit, along with what is probably far more capable people in the state department and other departments that will actually make any potential settlement work.

But I still do stand by my pessimism, I sincerely doubt that Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump will ever set foot in the same country, let alone the same city, let alone the same building, let alone the same room, let alone the same table.

And Trump is no diplomat... DPRK is very prickly and very touchy and if Trump can't hold his own and loses his ****, they will humiliate him and send him home empty handed.

Also this is simply not how DPRK plays, I still think something is up.

I do not see any reason why DPRK would voluntarily give up their nuclear weapons, unless Kim Jong Un really is that person to lead DPRK out of the darkness.

So while I maintain my pessimism, here's my alternate scenario of hope, because this meeting of Pompeo is a pretty positive sign so here goes:

Kim Jong Un is not nearly the dastardly villain the Western Media portrays him as, he's actually quite astute, he has spent the last 7 years building up his position, dealing with his political rivals which probably included the old guard and has finally cemented his position as unquestionable ruler of North Korea, perhaps finally giving him the latitude he needs in order to end this stand off with the west because he knows his position in the very long term is untenable and change his country into a more perhaps, Chinese model.

My only hope if this is the case, is that DPRK can open up to the world and curtail its rampant human rights abuses to much lower levels, I mean China isn't great for that but its miles better than DPRK, which is all the altruist in me can hope for.

So yeah, let's see what happens.

I predict this goes nowhere. In return for the peace treaty & giving up his nukes, Kim is likely to demand withdrawal of U.S. troops from SK. Non-starter.

Sounds like collusion to me

Sum she done gots funnys hea; Trump be cold clap slappin' the dingus

Re: CIA Director Pompeo makes secret trip to North Korea: Meets with Kim Jong Un

I've been waiting all day for our Trump hating mainstream media to talk about the big story today about north and south Korea...and they haven't. The story isn't this one about Pompeo. It's THIS one:

North and South Korea are in talks to announce a permanent end to the officially declared military conflict between the two countries, daily newspaper Munhwa Ilbo reported Tuesday, citing an unnamed South Korean official.

Ahead of a summit next week between North Korean premier Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in, lawmakers from the neighboring states were thought to be negotiating the details of a joint statement that could outline an end to the confrontation.

Kim and Moon could also discuss returning the heavily fortified demilitarized zone separating them to its original state, the newspaper said.

Add that groundbreaking development to this Pompeo visit to N. Korea and to the upcoming meeting between Trump and Rocket Man, and we have Trump doing something that decades of Presidents...from both Parties...haven't been able to do.

but if it does go somewhere you will give Trump credit. yes?

It's amazing what a leader can get accomplished when he pressures the bad guys instead of apologizing to them.

Is Trump going to be ready when he finds out that his idea of 'denuclearization' and Kim's idea of 'denuclearization', are two entirely different concepts?

I am surprised nobody had brought it up yet on this board (everybody seems to be too busy following a porn "actress") but Bloomberg had reported yesterday - with an update today - that ...

"... South and North Korea are discussing plans to announce an official end to the military conflict between the two countries that are still technically at war, the Munhwa Ilbo newspaper reported, citing an unidentified South Korean official.

At next week’s summit between South Korea President Moon Jae-in and North Korea leader Kim Jong Un, the two neighbors may release a joint statement saying they will seek to ease military tension and to end confrontation, according to the report. ..."

History is being made and the dumb liberals are preoccupied with a porn "star" and her sleazy lawyer. Go figure.

I'm actually a bit impressed with the move. I'm very intrigued how it works out.

Is this standard operating procedure for a CIA chief?

Re: CIA Director Pompeo makes secret trip to North Korea: Meets with Kim Jong Un

It is going to be interesting to see if Trump is going to be allowed to work on this....if he is sabotaged by idiot for sure and treasonous Americans.

So far so good, mostly.

Re: CIA Director Pompeo makes secret trip to North Korea: Meets with Kim Jong Un

This is an interesting development. I will certainly give Trump credit where credit is due. Let's see what happens.

when peace appears time will be short

of course it could all be just a reality TV doughnut ......... sweet & filling ............

It's an interesting turn events, but without a defined strategy for what it is the US wants other than a NK without nuclear weapons it's hard to predict the outcome. I don't think Kim Jong Un is going to capitulate to US demands if they'e the ones that have been stated publicly thus far. I have more confidence in South Korean talks with North Korea than I do with this administration. Unless they have been hiding adept diplomats for the big game, I don't see where this goes.

So....you gonna remember that NK played Trump like a fiddle a few years down the road? Or are you going to pretend you never said stuff like that, and pray people didn't care enough about the knee-jerk praise to remember what you said (or pray that policies against necro'ing threads prevents you from being called out?)

NK has a history of doing this kind of thing, then changing their tune once they're in a better position.

I'm incredibly skeptical.

China doesn't want or need NK to give up nukes. They just want NK to settle the **** down and stop causing trouble.

Meanwhile, NK is well aware of how Trump only cares about the appearance of victory, and even then only as long as it serves him...then he's on to the next con and in Trump's world, the last one didn't happen.

We also know how secretive they are. What is the probability that NK would agree to a deal that allows enough US monitoring to ensure that they've given up nukes and programs? Virtually zero.

I'd actually love to admit I'm wrong here, but I think I'm about as close to knowing I'm right as if I had a working crystall ball.

As you should be.

China doesn't want or need NK to give up nukes.

I've never got the sense that China would want NK to have nuclear weapons.

They just want NK to settle the **** down and stop causing trouble.

Goes without saying.

Indeed, I would love nothing more than for this to actually be the breakthrough we've been hoping for, for decades.

But I doubt it as well.
