California now leads the nation in job creation, projected $1 billion surplus

After 8 years of a failed GOP governor, looks like things are finally starting to turn around in the Golden State under Governor Jerry Brown's leadership. :peace

Hoover creates a mess, FDR has to clean up.

Reagan/Bush Senior create a mess, Clinton has to clean up.

Dumbya Bush Jr. creates a mess, Obama has to clean up.

Arnold creates a mess, Jerry Brown has to clean up.

Anyone else see a pattern here?

You forgot one, liberal Gray Davis who ran the state into a 20+ billion debt. And that same liberal Gray Davis was ousted, fired, kicked out of office. RECALLED. I know you can't believe it, that a liberal got RECALLED by liberals. That's how bad he was, reminds me of Carter, until Obama came along who is making Gray Davis look like a little kid when it comes to really adding trillions to the national debt.

Now to Jerry Brown, he raises taxes, that's easy, problem is businesses have been leaving the state to more friendly business states for over a decade.

lol.

Now can you tell me that no tribe took land from another tribe?

It's only bad, when it suits a leftist agenda. Tribes slaughtering each other repeatedly over land... well that's ok.

California is still .5% higher than the average national unemployment.

Maybe they should have spent some of those surpluses in properly maintaining the Oroville Dam, eh?

Congratulations.
I thought that states have to balance their budgets because unlike federal government, they can not print money. There seems to be a large raise in debt. It is easier to "balance the budget" by issuing more debt to cover it but at some point the debt has to be paid. Right?

Yet they are claiming that next year the should have a $2.8 billion surplus.

California analyst projects $2.8 billion budget surplus | 89.3 KPCC

The Feds should tell them to go to hell, they have more than enough money to pay to fix the dam. Estimates for that are only around $200 million.

You want to be your own country, pay for this yourself. Welcome to the real world California. The state that wants the Federal Government to declare a n area a disaster zone so it can get Federal money, when it did not even bother to deploy their own National Guard.

What a surprise, another anti Conservative post that puts California in a positive spin that ignores the actual record.

California is over 400 billion in debt so 1 billion surplus is a drop in the bucket. California leads the nation in poverty, in entitlement spending, and companies fleeing the state.

California still sends more money to the federal government than it gets.
and it does have the money to fix the dam. Why it didn't spend it sooner, you'd have to ask the legislature. I'm sure the citizens will be doing so pretty soon.

Probably not.

For one, it is the DWR that made the decision, not the legislature. The DWR read the report and filed it away, they never even made a request to the Legislature or Governor for the funds at all.

And this state is so blue, they can get away with everything. And we live in a red district, do you think the blue districts like Sacramento, San Francisco, or LA care about Oroville?

Just a question, is there anyway the predominantly Red parts of California can secede from the coastal bastion of liberalism, entitlements, illegal sanctuary cities, and the Political Correctness including going to activist Judges to overturn the will of the people?? If TX was closer would love to have you join us

Notice what I have for my location now. Oroville is smack in the middle of Jefferson.

I for one am praying that California separates from the US. That way we can follow the example of West Virginia and separate from California.

now there you go, posting actual data. You know that liberal don't like that kind of information and will just ignore it. Where are our Californian supporters now?

So, we need to ask the DWR.

No, the folks in those places don't care about Oroville, or water projects. They're more interested in high speed rail than in solving the water problems in this state.

And the people who live in "red" districts can't outvote the ones in "blue" districts.

Interesting thing about Oroville: Yes, it is smack in the middle of "Jefferson." It has also become the welfare capital of California.

I used to live there, back in the early '70s. At that time, there was industry there. Now, there aren't many jobs there, and so people have left (including myself). The main industry there is living on the dole.

Should the supporters of the state of Jefferson get their way, I'm not sure just what the residents of Oroville would do.

Much of that is because of the state itself.

Trust me, Yesterday I finally opened my computer store (3 days late). Just a small operation, my wife and myself. Yet still I had to spend around $1k just in permits and the like before I could open. And it will be quite a while before I can even hope to break even.

And if I did decide to hire somebody, it would cost me $10.50 an hour (plus). In an area where you can rent an apartment for less than $700 a month.

The biggest problem in smaller rural areas is that the wages are driven by cities like SF-LA-Sac. What is starvation wages there is barely affordable for a business up here. The grocery store across the street is run by the owner and her husband. Each takes turns running it, because they could not afford employees any more. I can not even afford employees, but have one on standby in the event I am deployed.

Myself, I have long been a supporter of local wage limits, not nation-state wide limits. What is good for New York is not good for Alabama. What is good for San Francisco is not good for Weeds. And with the state wage eventually going up to $15 an hour expect things to get worse. Because few businesses up here can afford that kind of wage and stay competitive.

I bet if they exempted "Jefferson" from the state minimum wages, a lot of businesses would move up here, especially for manufacturing. But when you are forced to pay higher wages state wide, why move? Especially since you may be grandfathered in for a great many things now, but a move might require you to conform to things like putting aside a huge fund to save the purple headed buck rat, which was last seen in the area in 1940.

I wish you extremely well and hope when the state secedes your area will be able to get back to some sanity and away from the illegal activities being done by the coastal areas that always vote for the Democrats.

By the way, a native of your town played for my home MLB Team, the Cincinnati Reds, Gary Nolan. I knew he and his wife Carol for a long time. My wife babysat for he and Carol when the first moved to Cincinnati, Great guy

We must save the purple headed buck rat! It's an endangered species, you know.

Could be the folks in San Francisco might not be concerned with the needs of rural areas like Oroville or Weeds (Weed? I've been there) That may be why you see signs in Northern California and southern Oregon touting the new State of Jefferson.

Largest wealth creators in Cali are oil, banks, pharma, and then IT. Hardly the bastion of liberal economic success. You basically have a bunch of capitalist pigs trying to outrun the liberal takers. Success for now but how long can it last?

Texas is the one lone exception to the rule: Red states do tend to take more from the feds than they give.

What may come as some surprise is where these two warring tribes tend to live. The states with elected officials most likely to espouse anti-taker sentiments — i.e., Republican-dominated states — are the most dependent on federal spending, while returning the least to Washington in the way of tax dollars.
