California High School Teacher On Leave After Questioning School Shooting Walkout

Are you kidding me? You think a teacher who tries to influence a student is 'problematic'? Let me introduce you to every teacher who tries to influence.

Simmer down, I'm talking politically. Their job is to teach facts...also how to think to, but not what to think, if that makes sense. But primarily facts...just like the newspaper's job is primarily to report facts. And again, I would be equally annoyed no matter what lean was being promoted.

So no, I'm not kidding you... :P

yea and 1000 students walking out of class is not a distraction?
yet a teacher trying to cause some critical thinking in her students is?

all i have to say is :doh

1000 students walking out is DEFINITELY a distraction, for 17 minutes.

KIDS decide what kids should be concerned about. Apparently, most kids do not consider abortion to be an issue that requires them to protest, whereas gun violence is. It is not for you, I, or the teacher to determine what kids should find important.
That's just the point CC, reports are starting to surface that outside groups like "Occupy", MoveOn, teachers, and administrators were behind not only shaping the message, but compelling the kids to participate.

In one call I heard this morning from a parent, a letter was sent home from the school, no header, no signature, (I suspect for the legality of compelling a student to participate in political speech) that their school would be participating, and to decline to take part the parent would have to send in a note allowing their Child be excused from participation....thats outrageous.

Hehe...we don't know each other very well, I guess. If you check me out, you'll see that the vast majority of the time I dismiss generalizations, regardless of what side of the debate they come from. ;)

YOu missed a golden opportunity there to make a good funny had you said, "I always dismiss generalizations."

 Like I said, it should be up to the school to decide which issues are pertinent enough to allow students to protest.

Naked viewpoint discrimination. The biggest First Amendment no-no.

I applaud you since you are progressive, per you lean, and you don't think all conservatives are racists.

Today's teacher teaches ideology as much as the subject they're assigned to teach.

If I apply your logic evenly, then how does a bunch of white supremacists wearing MAGA hats at a white supremacist rally not imply that all conservatives are pushing a racist agenda?
We are talking about primary school students here, some as young as 5th graders....now, please show me where your scenario took place on a grade school campus, or even a high school....

I don't know where the conservatives are getting the idea that all ideas are equal, but it's certainly funny. Students should be encouraged to act and engage on issues that affect them. Gun control is one, abortion isn't. Whether protesting an issue is in the students interest should be left up to the school to decide, the idea that it's all or nothing is just stupid.

Shirley you jest.

I know...but that's just how disciplined I am, yo... :P haha

There's nothing progressive about generalization. There's a lot of people running around calling themselves progressive when they are anything but.

Today's teacher teaches ideology as much as the subject they're assigned to teach.

I'd have to explore that topic with you more before offering an opinion...there is a lot of things being called ideology that could be debated...

And what are you basing this on? Are you currently in classrooms listening to them?

Really? Location is the smoking gun? hehe...stop it, you're engaging in conspiracy theory. Generalization is the quickest way to get owned in a debate, and at 31k posts you should know that by now.

I'm of retirement age but 15 or so years ago I went back to college to earn an additional degree in accounting. I was shocked at the difference in schooling. The amount of proselytizing done by teachers. One of the most egregious of these teachers was in a core class, a class I needed to pass, in order to get my degree in accounting...an English class. I can remember one of his lines on that first day of class:' liberal means generous. Liberals are more generous people.' I don't know how he knew this since he was an English teacher.

He said this generous line during the first part of every class.

As soon as he said "LIBERALS ARE GENEROUS!" you shoulda said "Take me out to lunch!"

You are saying that your accounting teachers were politicizing accounting?

Yeah.... I'm kind of not buying your story.

Lots of grumbling from the back sections of the class but one student who voiced displeasure at his preaching and told a student they didn't have to believe what the teacher was saying, after the other student voiced displeasure, was kicked out of class.

Me. I had to delay my process to get my degree and pay for 3 additional credits. And found out this teacher was known for doing this and the college kept them on.

Had one accounting professor politicizing the Enron scandal.

Enron politicized the enron scandal.
The courts threw out all the Enron convictions and, lordy no, many of those hard-ball, unconstitutional prosecutors are on the Mueller investigative team.

Incorrect. The court overturned some of the Enron convictions. Not "all" of them.

Was this a government-funded or taxpayer funded college?

Its a dumb move by school administrations encouraging student participation in the event. They are opening the door for lawsuits when they don't support every protest in the future.
