Barr Assigns U.S. Attorney in Connecticut to Review Origins of Russia Inquiry

WASHINGTON — Attorney General William P. Barr has assigned the top federal prosecutor in Connecticut to examine the origins of the Russia investigation, according to two people familiar with the matter, a move that President Trump has long called for but that could anger law enforcement officials who insist that scrutiny of the Trump campaign was lawful.

So it looks like the probe is beginning, fortunately, it’s not a Special Fisherman which takes too long. This guy is a prosecutor. Big difference.

So we shall get to watch the two justice systems battle for supremacy.

A truly historic moment, we all get to be a part of.

It's been reported that Barr has appointed John Durham, the U.S. attorney in Connecticut, to conduct the inquiry.

John Henry Durham (born 1950) is the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. He is best known for leading an inquiry into allegations that FBI agents and Boston police had ties with the mob and his appointment as special prosecutor regarding the 2005 CIA interrogation tapes destruction.
On November 1, 2017, he was nominated by President Donald Trump to be Connecticut's next U.S. Attorney. On February 15, 2018, his nomination to be the United States Attorney was confirmed by voice vote. He was sworn in on February 22, 2018.

Seems to me that Barr is being very careful. He knows that whatever he finds will be dismissed as a result of the Dem's attacks on him since he uttered that "spy" word. He also knows that at this point he doesn't have enough to warrant him assigning a special prosecutor. So he split the difference and is assigning this to a US Attorney who has experience in government corruption and who is unassailable by the Dems. Plus, Barr can always go ahead and assign a special prosecutor if it becomes necessary.

Barr is a very smart man. The Dems and the corrupt Obama administration pukes are correct to fear what is happening.

Dems saw this coming and preemptively attacked Barr. There's nothing they can do to stop with train from going down the tracks.

This is very good news and sooner than I expected. This U.S. Attorney is going to have mountains of evidence already uncovered from previous investigations in Congress and IG Horowitz's investigation to assist him. And with this news tonight I am sure there are several people feeling a bit uneasy.

Literally everyone around Trump was corrupt and lying about meeting with the Russians during an election they attacked. But yeah.... must have been the evil Democrats out to get Trump. Republicans are delusional and are supporting the use of the DOJ to try and cover for the President's criminality.

Trump's own pick for the FBI head contradicted the utterly unsubstantiated claim from chief cover man William Barr. Barr and Trump both deserve impeachment.

To top it off, we have Trump appointing an AG who appoints another Trump appointed Prosecutor to investigate. The rule of law is being subverted in plain view.

So far nothing about the Connecticut attorney seems to indicate that he is a partisan hack.

Thanks for the citation.

Good. We need such a trusted, honest, experienced view to defray questions of bias from either Party.

This gentleman has a history of successful investigation of corrupt investigators, and it will be streamlined by the Attorney General.

I hope we can hear from the I.G.'s office regarding their investigations of DOJ and FBI involvements fairly soon too.

Durham is already investigating the "leaking" by James Baker. For all we know, he might be working on several cases already ... which would be nice.

Republican and Trump Appointee. Barr is certainly a partisan hack and official Republican janitor.

Worth noting that virtually every Republican and every Democrat (mainly Senators and some Congressmen) that could have seen the material that a prosecutor is now sorting through investigation has remained quiet, has not engaged in the hysteria, rhetoric and hyperbole of Trump and his Trumplicans which means, this is going nowhere. It won't require rhetoric from the Dems to condemn it. It is already condemned by the silence of the Republicans.

That is not to say that the Prosecutor or his investigation will be flawed. He just won't find anything worth yammering about for more than a quarter of a news cycle.

Wow Durham has quite a history going after wrongdoers in government. He even investigated our current CIA director Haspel over the handling of tapes a few years back but she was not charged with any wrongdoing. He's gone after members of the FBI too. Sounds like the man for the job.

The US attorney has been trusted by both GOP and Dem AGs. the partisan hack label is not accurate here.

When this amount to a popcorn fart that finds no criminal coup at the FBI, don't say we didn't tell you so.

Go ahead. Investigate until you're blue in the face, really.

But, we can investigate right back at you this time, since retaliation is what Republicans like.

Barr is doing this because he knows the IG report is NOT going to support the conspiracy theories - he must have been briefed on where Horowitz is at. He wouldn't be doing this otherwise.

Anyone who is Republican and appointed by Trump is not trustworthy in a partisan effort of the DOJ. Barr is more the political hack, but I find the whole effort untrustworthy and is done to provide cover and respite for the President.

That seems to be a rather partisan hackish position to take. I get that those who have what appears to be an irrational hatred of Trump cannot let go of the fact he won the election and, to date, all the underhanded attempts by the sore losers to undermine his administration, have failed.

And then there is that. Good catch on your part. I had not thought about that because of course the IG will not release a report nor release anything publicly till he completes his inquiry while Senators and Congressmen can't help themselves. If there was anything there, they would have been screaming to the high heavens by now, especially the Republicans anxious to bury their noses as far up Fat Donald's butt as they could get them. The silence of the Repugs that have had access to this material on this issue has been deafening.

But of course you are right. Barr has already been briefed....naturally. Again....good catch on your part.

The IG was fast to report on McCabes wrongdoing, so he's not one to sit on misconduct findings until a final report, which means that if the IG is this far along and has found nothing, the report is going to be very anti-climatic, and conservatives will simply double down.

IMHO, if the IG report shows no FISA abuse - and it won't - the Democrats should demand Barr close the other inquires, or be impeached for (among other reasons) politicizing the DOJ.

Trump deserves the hatred I'm afraid, he is tearing this country apart. And shall I remind you of the 14 ongoing investigations against Trump? I bet you didn't take those seriously, but you take this Deep State coup conspiracy seriously. I'm afraid you are the partisan hack, I am concerned about the rule of law.

If he has political opinions he seems quiet about them.

He worked for the Obama and Clinton Administrations in non-appointed roles.
Republicans never let Democrats investigate them, but when they investigate each other or Democrats, you better believe it is a Republican doing it.

The tearing apart bit is a dubious claim. More like a bunch of sore losers cannot handle the results of the election. I am afraid you are hypocritical if you are calling ME the partisan hack here.
