All 4 living former presidents say Trump’s claim that they wanted a border wall is false

Please stop confusing Trump lovers with right wingers. Right wingers aren't stupid. Trump supporters don't support the right wing. They idolize the fake named Trump, up to and including attacking any real Republican who sees through him and knows he is a fraud.

Fair enough, and from what I've seen he's losing more and more of the principled remaining Republicans out there. What's distressing is the guy does have tremendous support from what remains of the GOP. It's not all the party but at least in Tennessee the winning GOP candidates embraced Trump with both arms, and the winning candidate for Senator was an early and enthusiastic MAGA woman (Marsha Blackburn).

As usual, this comes down to the deciphering of TrumpSpeak - which is not an easy task.

Did "some" past POTUS office holders advocate for and sign bills to fund building physical barriers on the border? Yep.

Did Trump talk to "some of them" and get the impression that they favored placing more (or better) barriers on the border? Maybe.

Did all (or all living?) past POTUS office holders even converse with Trump on the matter? Nope.

The difficulty is trying to discern Trump's meaning from his word salad (aka TrumpSpeak). He seems to want to point out that he is not the first (or only?) POTUS to want more effective border security and to advocate building a physical barrier as part of that effort.

My verdict - TrumpSpeak works and/or fails in mysterious ways.

It's been called 'a truth-free claim.'

AKA lying

I hear you!

I wasn’t wrong about former President Carter ( why are you communists always disrespectful ). Yesterday this same topic was brought up, and He had no comment.

no, he made the comment yesterday, I heard it on the news last night.

He SPECIFICALLY noted that there was no infrastructure in place to catch them if they voted. That's tantamount to telling them that they won't get caught if they vote.

Whoooosh! There goes another goalpost!

What has escaped the minds of the left here is this question. “ why should we trust anything a past president who is still alive says ? “ that would be proclaiming we are empty headed.

Wow! What flavor is Trump kool-aid?

*snicker* It's probably kale-flavored. And yet you swilled it anyway :doh

I wasn't disrespectful. My initial reply to your comment about Carter simply said, "If so it's been updated. From the article:" and then I quoted from the article. In response to THAT you said,

John Plaster has an age old saying which holds true. “ if just one part of the story does not ring true, it’s most likely an outright lie.

What was the point of that comment, if not to dismiss Carter's quote as fake news? Why not just acknowledge that Carter DID comment, perhaps after you'd read the article?

I listened to it again and i didn't get that. She went wrong when she called non-citizens "citizens". But he knew what she was talking about. He encouraged all citizens (plainly) to vote so they could be the voices of people who weren't citizens and couldn't vote.

That was an alt right site that took 30 seconds of a longer interview and snipped it so the easily fooled would think he was telling illegals to vote. It worked, apparently.

She was specifically talking about illegals voting, so if he knew what she was talking about then that goes against your point. I agree he was talking about citizens, but that wasn't the question posed to him.

Carter. Ford. Bush. Trump. I can see you’ve never served even two years in a military unit. Yet you know so much.

Are you doing a stream of consciousness exercise, because otherwise that makes literally no sense on any level as a coherent response to my comment.

carry on. Your continued disrespect shows the true nature of your colors.

I know she was talking about illegals. I already said that.

So if you agree that he was talking about citizens voting, then you agree that Luther lied when he said that Obama told illegals to vote.

Whoooosh! There goes another goalpost!

Alabama probably could have won the championship last night if they were allowed to move the goalposts as much as the citizens of Trump Fan Nation do when they try to save face.

The article actually doesn't support the headline. Statements from the presidents noted only that they haven't spoken with President Trump about the wall.

Which doesn't change the fact that Trump's claim is clearly false.

I already said that I believe Obama was referring to citizens and that he misunderstood the question.

I don't agree that Luther lied, I can see why he would believe that. I merely disagree with him and don't think he is intentionally trying to deceive.

You are saying two completely different things. Luther said Obama told illegals to vote. You even admitted he didn't do that.

That was debunked a long time ago. I was no fan of Obama and didn't vote for him, but even I was too smart to fall for it when the alt-righters put it out there.

So which of the former Presidents talked with Trump and told him they support him on this effort?

I believe it was Buchanan, WH Harrison, Pierce and A Johnson....you know, the people just ahead of him in worst presidents of all time standings.

I don't consider someone a liar unless they are intentionally spreading information that they know to be false. We both agree that Obama appeared to have misunderstood the question and was referring to citizens with his response. The question however was about illegals and given his answer it isn't unreasonable to come to the conclusion he was telling illegals to vote. It ultimately boils down to if you believe Obama actually understood the question being posed to him. If he did then Luther is correct, if not then we are correct.

I didn't agree that Obama misunderstood the question. I even said I didn't agree with what you thought.

Here is what you said:

I believe the issue is that he may have misunderstood her question as she was asking about illegal aliens voting and fear of getting caught. He did later clarify the if you have an undocumented person in your family then it makes her vote that much more important so in my opinion I don't believe he was trying to encourage illegals to vote but rather he didn't catch the fact she was talking about noncitizens voting.

Here was my response:

Now you are lying too.

Oh ffs. You know damned well Trump pulled that out of his ass

I can assume that he did but none of us know for sure...

Which doesn't change the fact that Trump's claim is clearly false.

The claim he spoke to some of the former presidents? It is not supported, per the article. I'm not certain all were really asked. The fact all supported a wall in some form? -- they did.

Which, again, means that Trump lied. “A wall in some form” is A) a cop-out and B) incredibly vague. It’s like saying they agreed Trump was special because they all supported the idea that the office of the presidency is important......you can twist the idea of “agreeing to some form” very easily.

I can assume that he did but none of us know for sure...

Reality as we know it could be a simulation, yes, but I feel like it's not worth working off that hypothesis when there's absolutely no reason to expect that it is true.
