Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Refuses Invitation to Visit Auschwitz Concentration Camp

Good lord. The level of slobbering dishonesty or willful blindness (not that they're mutually-exclusive) you have to slap in front of your own face to keep it straight when you argue that AOC wasn't referencing Nazis and the Holocaust could choke a blue whale.

Everyone who even reads such an argument from someone else is dumber for the experience of it. Anyone who proffers that argument is actively making the world a more stupid place.

What I say here shouldn't be a partisan take. But sadly, sadly, in the world we currently live in, it is.

As an experienced therapist would tell you, denial can get appallingly pathological; i.e. really ugly. In all cases it starts with a hidden agenda, to protect the ego and avoid the potentially adverse consequences of having unacceptable feelings, needs, and thoughts. For those in denial to question their own motives, thoughts, or ideologies is far more threatening to their sense of self than the act of denial itself.

And I am sure you have noted, that when the denial is this deep they are immune to reality or rational argument. Nothing--not facts, not observable behavior; not the use of reason, logic, or the evidence of their own senses will make them reevaluate their world view.

All events will simply be reinterpreted to fit into the belief system of their world--no matter how ridiculous, how distorted, hysterical or how psychotic that reinterpretation appears to you. Consistency, common sense, reality, and objective truth are unimportant and are easily discarded--as long as their world view remains intact. And there are countless strategies --rhetorical ploys and logical fallacies--that can be used to fend off truth including, in this case, making a straw man issue out of what was not said WHEN the issue has always been over WHAT WAS SAID.

The "I didn't have sex with that woman" defense mechanism is alive and well, an no more so than in this thread.
