Alabama newspaper editor calls on KKK to lynch Democrats

Alabama newspaper editor calls on KKK to lynch Democrats

The editor and publisher of a local paper in Alabama is under fire for penning an editorial calling for mass lynchings by the Ku Klux Klan (KKK).

The opinion piece ran in his print-only newspaper, the Democrat-Reporter, last Thursday, Goodloe Sutton confirmed on Tuesday.

He said Democrats were going to raise taxes and that the KKK should hang them and raid Washington DC.

Alabama lawmakers have called for Sutton to resign.

The KKK is one of the oldest white supremacy groups in the US, formed just after the civil war. The group was behind many of the lynchings, rapes and violent attacks on African Americans in the 1900s.

The editorial began garnering attention online after students from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, tweeted photographs of the article.

COMMENT:-

What's the big problem here? Doesn't the 1st Amendment protect "freedom of the press" and "freedom of speech"? I mean, didn't the editorial SPECIFICALLY STATE "It's not calling for the lynchings of Americans."? I mean it's not as if the editorial were calling for hangings based on race, religion, gender, physical impediment, or national origin (doing that would be illegal) - right? Besides if those left-wing, loony, liberal, socialist, pinko, commie, N***** lovin', so-called "students" hadn't made a big fuss over nothing who would have cared - right?

Yes, they should all be beside themselves with outrage that a weekly circulated bird cage liner, with a total circulation of 3,000 has some nut write an editorial...That must mean that everyone south of the Mason Dixon line thinks exactly like them....Settle down Eugene....

Calling supporters of the President childish names, subhuman names, makes you no better than this redneck publisher....You know that right?

Yes, they should all be beside themselves with outrage that a weekly circulated bird cage liner, with a total circulation of 3,000 has some nut write an editorial...That must mean that everyone south of the Mason Dixon line thinks exactly like them....Settle down Eugene....

Look at you trying to minimize overt hatred and calls to violence.

Really?

Show me exactly where I ever made an appeal to outright violence and murder.

False equivalency, you should be better than that.

Not minimizing anything...But let's be real....This "paper" is most likely used as trash can liner more often than not...Circulation of 3,000? And that's your threat? :lamo

By relegating any, and all Trump supporters to sub human species, you do that every time you type your divisive drivel.

So why call out this journalist then? You seem to think he is an enemy, but according to you, journalists just should just not be called out ever...almost like they're a "privileged class" or something.
I never said anything like that. Learn to read.

You are minimizing.

Public calls to violence is nothing to ever minimize. And that is exactly what you are doing.

Why can't you just condemn it and leave it that? Is that hard?

Look who is ducking and weaving and dodging.

How heavy are those goalposts you keep moving?

Not at all...I don't agree with his racist message, I just think that a tiny publication that covers 3,000 people, half of which probably don't even read it, is hyperventilating over literally the equivalent of a crazy person screaming in the wilderness...You on the other hand want to make it seem as though he reaching the entire GOP. Hell, DP probably reaches more people....

No goal post moving here...You de humanize opponents in here by constantly referring to us as sub human, primates. It is what propagandists in the Hitler regime did to the Jews in the 30s, it is what Palestinian terrorists do to the Jews today...It's disgusting and shows your true fear of any intellectual challenge by us...If anyone is bobbing, and weaving right now it is you who is looking desperate to do anything possible rather than take responsibility for disgusting behavior in your own name calling tactics...Get better dude.

I'm glad you don't agree.

Still doesn't mean you aren't trying to minimize this.

it only takes one.

I'm glad you don't agree.

Still doesn't mean you aren't trying to minimize this.

It doesn't need minimizing....It's so small, it could be categorized as non existent....

It doesn't need minimizing....It's so small, it could be categorized as non existent....

And yet, we are talking about it and yet, it made national news...etc.

It is a big story because it is now a national story.

And you keep trying to minimize...

Your tongue-in-cheek commentary notwithstanding, ...

Freedom of the press is protected. That is why there is no law under which this editor can be charged for writing what he wrote.

That is not to say that there is freedom from consequences. People can retaliate by boycotting the advertisers in that paper until the editor is dismissed. They can put pickets up in front of the newspaper's publication site. They can boycott retail outlets that sell the paper, and they can cancel their subscriptions.

Those are all actions that I would have zero objection to.

Of course, you do realize that there will also be those who would claim that anyone taking those actions is "infringing on the editor's 1st Amendment rights.

In fact, there are some state laws that specifically target people who advocate/conduct those types of actions PROVIDED that the "cause" isn't one that is officially endorsed by the state government (and/or political party that controls the state government).

Freedom of the press doesn't grant you the right to incite violence against political opponents like freedom of speech doesn't grant you permission to shout fire in a crowded theater.

BUT the editor SPECIFICALLY stated that he was NOT "calling for" any lynchings and was only saying that, for specific groups, his OPINION was that lynchings would be a "Good Thing".

Right?

You think after this he will continue to be in business for long? I don't see it....

Losing his business could be the trigger he needs....

And yet, we are talking about it and yet, it made national news...etc.

It is a big story because it is now a national story.

And you keep trying to minimize...

It's a national story because it's a reason for the national news, which is pushing the narrative of Southerners being racist, to continue this fallacy.

Yeah, his message of hate is now a national story nationwide.

So, your attempts to minimize it are moot at this point.

So stop trying.

Too many People try and deflect this tread away from the truths..... and others are playing too much into the deflections.....!!!! It's amazing how some of white society won't deal with the groomed in elements of a long history of everything that groomed this writer of the articles to write that ignorant madness....
don't be so easily led astray of the point and the factors that are "DIRECTLY" related to the point.

Don't be so easily led away from the points and facts of "those who promote such racist ignorance", by every kind of diversion and deflection.....
