Didn’t watch it all, but most of those were hard, clean hits.
You have to understand hockey... it’s a physical game, and hitting hard is used to (a) remove the player from the puck (or as any kid was taught when I played... take the body, not the puck)... (b) to make players fearful... because if you know you’re going to get hit, you’re more likely to make a bad play, and to (c) punish the opposition... it’s a physical game (see point “b”).
This is why Toronto wouldn’t go far in the playoffs should they make it. Too many ballerina’s, not enough grit.
As for fighting... nobody gets more than a cut, and it is better than the Euro solution... which is cheap shots and using your stick.
There’s a fraction of the brutality as the old clutch-and-grab era. Everyone has to be able to play today... but with the greater speed, comes more spectacular hits.
I don't mind the hard hits, but the head shots are uncalled for.
WHo was the goon that they intentionally hit in the head with a puck a few years ago? Stevenson, I think. He hunted one head too many, I guess.
