Nhl 2017-2018

Pens are getting destroyed 2nd game of their season. Good! And the Rangers lost their opener. Yankees are losing. Good night all around. Especially for an Isles fan.

Isles fans are not going to have many good nights for awhile...

How so? Ho Sang and Barzal are the real deal. 2 solid goalies and Taveras. They looked great in preseason. Missed the playoffs by a point after a horrendous start along with carrying 3 goalies for some stupid reason only Snow can answer. I think they should have a good year.

You kinda got the answer to your question in there. Garth Snow. He just has issues. But realistically, until all the off ice issues are sorted out, it is going to tough to keep players, and tough to get players to come there. And this years, the Metro has 4 + teams that are probably better than the Isles.

We will see. Eberle was a nice addition. Top line with Taveras and Lee should be real good. I hope they build a new arena by Belmont Race Track.

I doubt Pens are this bad or that the Hawks are this good. But, it's a great start.

The Knights are 1-0!

The Knights are 2-0!

Blackhawks are looking pretty, pretty good. 5-1 win vs CBJ, despite the odd pregame Panarin tribute.

Saad and Kane on a pace for 82 goals this season.

Ovetchin is on pace for 287 goals this season...

Predictions:

Atlantic: Montreal, if Price stays healthy
Metro: Washington, Holtby is just that good
Central: Minnesota seems to be the consensus most likely division winner, and I got nothing better to contradict that
Pacific: Every one seems to be picking Edmonton, but I can't do it. I am going with the Ducks

I'm a little late, but I'll counter:

Atlantic - Montreal won't make the playoffs - neither will Boston - I'll go with the homer Leafs to win the Atlantic (just a note, an Ottawa Senators beat writer has the Leafs winning the Cup)
Metro - I like Columbus to make another move forward this year - I didn't like Pitt losing Fleury, I don't like the Rangers at all, and Washington is due to regress.
Central - St. Louis and Chicago will duke it out, Nashville close
Pacific - a resurgent Los Angeles takes this one

Congratz Toronto on getting the first Illegal Equipment penalty...

How long before the entire league is screaming about the **** load of penalties being called each game and ruining the flow. Toronto killed off 8 power plays first game - not much fewer the past two games.

Early days, but the Leafs' skill players look even more dynamic this year than last and their lineup sports 3 solid scoring lines and a fourth line with the ability to pop a goal or two along the way. Defense still the issue, but some new pieces look nice and Andersen in goal looks terrific to start the year, unlike the bad start he got missing training camp with injuries last year. Nice to see the collapse against the Rangers on Saturday not lead to one of last year's loses from blown leads - coming back to score 3 in the third to pull away after being tied was a great sign that the team has the strength and determination not to cave. Bodes well going forward.

Remarkable, but Leafs look like a serious contender in the Eastern Conference after being dead last in the league just 2 years ago. Their forward depth is best in the league, I'd argue. They have a lot of young forwards in the minors who'd be playing on other NHL teams right now. I'm pleased to be wrong, but this is a tribute to the Leafs management led by Shanahan and his "Shana-plan".

Giddy times in Toronto for hockey fans.

Does that make the beat writer an OINO(Ottawan In Name Only)?

I know it is just the preseason, but the Devils look like they could be a really fun team to watch. I am a fan of Nico Hischeir already.

Just thought I would say "I told ya so"...

The Canadien anthem in Montreal is always awesome. Habs scoring first on Toronto even better.

Flyers 8 - Capitals 2 !!!!

No Holtby in goal for Washington, but backup goalie for Flyers too.

Great home opener for Flyers.

Still very early in the season, but I'd have to say everyone has to be a bit surprised by the performance of the Vegas Knights thus far.

I hear the Stanley Cup parade is slated for next week. Yay, Laughs!

The Ottawa beat writers are about as bad as it gets. They should be relegated to covering -- at most -- pee-wee hockey.
